La Rondine review – new version of Puccini's opera makes aftertaste bitter rather than sweet

I'm not really sure what to make of this new version of La Rondine 🤔. I mean, on one hand, it's amazing to see how Puccini's music can be reinterpreted and reimagined in such a bold way. The energy in the nightclub scene is infectious! But at the same time, I'm not sure if I love the new ending - sending Magda away in a fit of rage just feels kinda... harsh? 😐 And what about all those people who are used to seeing that sweet, noble exit? It's like they're getting a rude awakening 🤯. Still, the cast is on point and Rizzi's handling of the score is top-notch. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's definitely worth checking out, but don't expect me to be singing its praises from the rooftops just yet 😐

🤔 I'm intrigued by this new version of La Rondine, but I need more info on how they got away with changing the ending like that? What makes musicologist Ditlev Rindom think his reconstruction is accurate? And what's up with Puccini not making the changes himself if he deemed them unsuitable back in 1921? 📝

🚨 Opera fans get ready for a letdown! 🤕 This new version of La Rondine is actually kinda cool tho... 😒 I mean, who thought it was a good idea to make Ruggero a psycho? 🤪 That's like putting a "dark twist" on a Disney movie and calling it edgy. And the new ending? So jarring! 🎸 It feels like Puccini was just trolling us all along. 😒 The music is still fire tho, but overall I'm kinda disappointed in this production... 🤕
