I'm not really sure what to make of this new version of La Rondine
. I mean, on one hand, it's amazing to see how Puccini's music can be reinterpreted and reimagined in such a bold way. The energy in the nightclub scene is infectious! But at the same time, I'm not sure if I love the new ending - sending Magda away in a fit of rage just feels kinda... harsh?
And what about all those people who are used to seeing that sweet, noble exit? It's like they're getting a rude awakening
. Still, the cast is on point and Rizzi's handling of the score is top-notch. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's definitely worth checking out, but don't expect me to be singing its praises from the rooftops just yet
