Renowned Chef Laurent Tourondel Trades Michelin-Starred Seafood for Philly's Pizza Scene
Laurent Tourondel, the chef behind BLT Fish, which earned a coveted Michelin star in 2005, is taking on a new culinary challenge with Scusi Pizza, his highly anticipated pizzeria opening November 21st in Northern Liberties. This marks the first of two restaurants he plans to open in Piazza Alta, a residential building next to The Piazza apartment complex.
Scusi Pizza promises an authentic Italian experience with wood-fired pies topped with premium San Marzano tomatoes and real mozzarella. From pepperoni to anchovies, diners can indulge in a range of classic toppings, as well as more adventurous options like prosciutto cotto and mushroom. To complement the pizza, the menu features salads, Italian sandwiches served on artisanal dough, small plates like charcuterie and stromboli, and even a rotating selection of soft-serve ice cream flavors.
The pizzeria will also offer an extensive wine list featuring small-production Italian wines available for in-house consumption or take-out, as well as a selection of draft beers. Tourondel's previous restaurant ventures have garnered widespread acclaim, including the Sag Pizza in Sag Harbor, New York, which blends "coastal charm" with "Amalfi Coast flavors."
Laurent Tourondel brings his French culinary expertise to Philadelphia after operating multiple restaurants in New York and Miami. His team is led by executive chef Georgeann Leaming, a seasoned veteran of Gordon Ramsay's kitchens, who has also worked at Suppa and Samwich sandwich shops in Northern Liberties.
Scusi Pizza will be open daily from 11 am to 9 pm, offering an exciting new option for pizza enthusiasts in the city.
