Chef who won Michelin star for seafood restaurant in New York to try his hand at pizza in Philly

Renowned Chef Laurent Tourondel Trades Michelin-Starred Seafood for Philly's Pizza Scene

Laurent Tourondel, the chef behind BLT Fish, which earned a coveted Michelin star in 2005, is taking on a new culinary challenge with Scusi Pizza, his highly anticipated pizzeria opening November 21st in Northern Liberties. This marks the first of two restaurants he plans to open in Piazza Alta, a residential building next to The Piazza apartment complex.

Scusi Pizza promises an authentic Italian experience with wood-fired pies topped with premium San Marzano tomatoes and real mozzarella. From pepperoni to anchovies, diners can indulge in a range of classic toppings, as well as more adventurous options like prosciutto cotto and mushroom. To complement the pizza, the menu features salads, Italian sandwiches served on artisanal dough, small plates like charcuterie and stromboli, and even a rotating selection of soft-serve ice cream flavors.

The pizzeria will also offer an extensive wine list featuring small-production Italian wines available for in-house consumption or take-out, as well as a selection of draft beers. Tourondel's previous restaurant ventures have garnered widespread acclaim, including the Sag Pizza in Sag Harbor, New York, which blends "coastal charm" with "Amalfi Coast flavors."

Laurent Tourondel brings his French culinary expertise to Philadelphia after operating multiple restaurants in New York and Miami. His team is led by executive chef Georgeann Leaming, a seasoned veteran of Gordon Ramsay's kitchens, who has also worked at Suppa and Samwich sandwich shops in Northern Liberties.

Scusi Pizza will be open daily from 11 am to 9 pm, offering an exciting new option for pizza enthusiasts in the city.

πŸ€” I gotta say, Laurent Tourondel is like a total wild card. One minute he's got Michelin stars and seafood restaurants, next thing you know he's gonna open up a pizza joint? πŸ•πŸ‘€ But hey, Philly needs more options, right? And if Scusi Pizza can bring that authentic Italian vibe to the city, I'm all for it. 🌟 The fact that Georgeann Leaming is on board as executive chef gives me some confidence, she's worked with Gordon Ramsay so you know she's got skills πŸ’ͺ. But what's up with the mix of old-school and new-school stuff? Like, classic toppings like pepperoni but also prosciutto cotto? πŸ€” Either way, I'll be checking it out on opening day πŸŽ‰

πŸ•πŸ˜‚ Laurent Tourondel is really shaking things up with this move! I mean, who would've thought a Michelin-starred chef would trade seafood for pizza? 🀯 It's like he wants to bring a little bit of France to Philly... or maybe just give us all a taste of Italy 😊. Either way, I'm intrigued by the menu and the wine list - sounds like it'll be a fun spot to grab dinner with friends πŸ‘«. Only thing keeping me from rushing out there is that Scusi Pizza is gonna be super busy... can't wait for November 21st to roll around πŸ•°οΈ

omg i'm so stoked about laurent tourondel's new pizzeria!! πŸ•πŸ˜ he's a total genius and his past restaurants are insane! sag pizza in ny was literally one of my fave spots and now he's bringing that same magic to philly. i mean who needs seafood when you can have wood-fired pizzas with real mozzarella? 🀩 the fact that he's putting authentic italian toppings on the menu is gonna be a game changer. i need to get myself to northern liberties ASAP and try scusi pizza!! has anyone tried his soft-serve ice cream flavors yet? πŸ¦πŸ‘€

omg can't believe laurent tourondel is ditching seafood for pizza πŸ•πŸ€― i mean i love a good seafood dish as much as the next person but pizzeria? that's a bold move πŸ™„ personally i think he should've stuck with his day job and just opened up another BLT fish location πŸŸπŸ˜‚ but hey who knows what all the fuss is about maybe philly pizza scene needs a little french flair πŸ‘€

awww man thats soooo cool! 🀩 Laurent Tourondel is taking on a new adventure with Scusi Pizza and I am SO here for it!! 😍 I mean who wouldn't want to try authentic Italian pizza from a Michelin-starred chef? πŸ•πŸ‘ The idea of wood-fired pies topped with premium San Marzano tomatoes and real mozzarella sounds like heaven to me! 🀀 And the fact that he's bringing his French culinary expertise to Philly is exciting, but also makes sense since we're all about that foodie life here πŸ˜‚. I'm curious to try out their menu features like small plates and salads too! πŸ€” Anyone else as hyped as I am? πŸŽ‰

im so down for laurent tourondel to bring some italian vibes to philly, i mean who doesn't love a good slice of wood-fired pie with fresh mozzarella πŸ•πŸ‘Œ? but at the same time, i kinda feel like he's switching up his game too much by leaving his seafood spot behind. maybe it's just me, but i loved blt fish and was really looking forward to seeing what tourondel would do next in the seafood scene...but hey, change is always good and scusi pizza sounds like a solid addition to the philly food scene πŸπŸ‘

I'm surprised he's trading in his seafood empire for a pizzeria... I mean, I guess you can't put a price on carbs, right? πŸ• Anyway, I've heard good things about this guy's cooking in the past, so I'm curious to see how he'll adapt to Philly's pizza scene. The menu sounds pretty solid, though - wood-fired pies and all that jazz. And hey, if he can bring a touch of French flair to the table (or pie), that's always a bonus. Just hope they don't skimp on the quality of their ingredients...

Man, I'm all about this new pizzeria opening up in Philly πŸ•πŸ‘Œ Laurent Tourondel is like a master chef on a mission to bring Italian vibes to our city, you know? It's crazy how he's trading in his Michelin-starred seafood for wood-fired pies and whatnot. But let me ask myself, what does it mean when we trade one kind of cuisine for another? Is it about exploring new flavors or is it about escaping the familiarity of our own culture?

I'm also thinking about the concept of 'authenticity' here. Tourondel's all about serving up classic Italian dishes, but what does that even mean in today's culinary world? Is it just about recreating old recipes or is it about understanding the essence of a cuisine that transcends time and place? And then there's this rotating selection of soft-serve ice cream flavors – doesn't that just add another layer of complexity to the whole experience?

Anyway, I'm hyped for Scusi Pizza! 🀩 Can't wait to see how it shakes up the Philly food scene.
