Bring the Winter Olympics back to New York, state lawmaker says

New York State Politician Pushes for Winter Olympics Return to Lake Placid

Assemblymember Robert Carroll, a Brooklyn Democrat, has launched an exploratory committee to bring the Winter Olympics back to Lake Placid for the first time in decades. Carroll believes that New York City and Lake Placid can pool their resources to host the games in 2038 or later, building on the successful model of the Milan-Cortina 2026 co-hosting event.

Carroll points to Lake Placid's existing Olympic facilities, which were recently renovated for the 2023 FISU World University Games, and notes that the town is already equipped to handle a major international sporting event. He envisions New York City taking on the larger indoor spectator events, such as ice hockey, figure skating, and speed skating, utilizing iconic venues like Madison Square Garden and Citi Field.

The proposal requires the support of both mayors, Michael Bloomberg and Art Devlin, as well as Governor Kathy Hochul. While some experts have raised concerns about the feasibility of hosting a major international event in Lake Placid, Carroll is confident that the state's Olympic-class facilities will generate public support for his plan.

Unlike the Summer Olympics, which require significant infrastructure investments, the Winter Games are significantly smaller and less expensive to host. Carroll believes that this could be an attractive option for New York State, particularly given the state's proven track record of hosting international sporting events.

As the 2026 Milan-Cortina Games conclude in Italy, Carroll plans to attend and assess how co-hosting works on the ground before launching a formal bid with the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee. With Governor Hochul hinting at support for his plan, it remains to be seen whether New York City and Lake Placid can come together to bring the Winter Olympics back to the Empire State in the near future.

I'm actually kinda stoked about this idea ๐Ÿคฉ. I mean, who wouldn't want to see more Olympic vibes in NY? But seriously, it's all about making it work with both cities pooling their resources. Lake Placid already has the facilities, so that's a major plus ๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ. And let's be real, NYC has got some iconic venues that would be sick to host events like ice hockey and figure skating ๐ŸŽค. Plus, co-hosting the games in Milan-Cortina was a huge success, so I think it could work here too ๐Ÿ˜Š. What do you guys think? Should we make this happen? ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿ… I'm all for bringing the Winter Olympics back to Lake Placid! It's a great idea to tap into the state's existing Olympic facilities, which are already top-notch. And who knows, having New York City and Lake Placid work together could be a win-win for both areas. I remember when I was younger, my family used to take road trips to Lake Placid, and it was always such a beautiful winter wonderland. Hosting the Olympics would bring in so much tourism and economic benefits. Plus, it's not like we're talking about trying to recreate the Summer Olympics โ€“ the Winter Games are definitely more feasible with what we already have here. ๐ŸŽ„

๐Ÿค” you know what's weird? I was just thinking about trying some new craft beer this weekend ๐Ÿบ, have you guys tried any good ones lately? I heard there's a brewery in Brooklyn that's supposed to be amazing... anyway, back to the Olympics - Lake Placid does seem like it could handle a big event, but I'm not sure if New York City is ready for all those cold winter days ๐Ÿฅถ. And don't even get me started on the cost, it sounds like a lot of money just to put on some ice shows and figure skating competitions... I mean, what's next? Hosting a fancy dinner party in a stadium? ๐Ÿคช

omg, this is gonna be lit!!! ๐Ÿคฉ lake placid as a winter olympics host? i'm low-key excited already! ๐ŸŽ‰ they're talkin about makin it happen in 2038 or later... that gives 'em time to iron out the logistics & get the resources together. i love how they're lookin at poolin their recs from new york city & lake placid, like a co-hosting model with milan-cortina 2026... that's some genius thinking right there! ๐Ÿค“ and can you even imagine mads square garden hostin ice hockey events? ๐Ÿ’๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ governor hochul is on board too, so fingers crossed for this one! ๐Ÿคž

I'm low-key hyped about this ๐Ÿคฉ! Hosting the Winter Olympics in 2038 or later sounds like a solid plan, especially with Lake Placid having all the necessary facilities already done up for the FISU World University Games. I can see it now: New York City taking care of the big indoor events at Madison Square Garden and Citi Field ๐ŸŸ๏ธ, while Lake Placid handles the outdoor tracks and venues ๐Ÿ”๏ธ. It's like a match made in heaven! I just hope they don't skimp on the details when it comes to logistics and planning โ€“ we need to make sure everything is smooth sailing for the athletes and spectators alike ๐Ÿ’จ

๐Ÿค” I'm not buying this whole thing, you know? They're just trying to distract us from something bigger. First, they're talking about bringing the Winter Olympics back to Lake Placid, and now we've got Assemblymember Robert Carroll saying it's a great idea for New York City and Lake Placid to pool their resources. But what's really going on here? Are they planning to use this as a way to get us all used to having big events in our state so when something real does happen, like I think it will, we'll be all like "oh, it's just another Olympics" and not even realize what's going on. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

And have you noticed that Michael Bloomberg is involved? That guy's got more money than God, but he's still trying to make a name for himself in politics. I'm sure this has nothing to do with him wanting to be seen as a successful businessman in the public eye... or something. ๐Ÿค‘

Omg ๐Ÿคฉ I think this is such a great idea!!! ๐Ÿ˜ Lake Placid has already shown that it's equipped to handle huge events with those renovations for the FISU World University Games, and having NYC support is gonna bring so much energy to the games! ๐Ÿ’ช Imagine ice hockey at Madison Square Garden ๐Ÿ’๏ธ, or figure skating at Citi Field ๐ŸŽฟ, it'll be lit!!! ๐Ÿ”ฅ Plus, co-hosting like Milan-Cortina is a great way to make it more manageable and cost-effective. Fingers crossed for NYC & Lake Placid to team up and bring the Winter Olympics back! ๐Ÿ’•

omg is this serious lol lake placid hosting winter olympics again? that's like a total pipe dream ๐Ÿคฃ i mean don't get me wrong, it would be awesome for NY state and all but think about the logistics & costs involved...lake placid's tiny population can't exactly handle 10k+ visitors in the dead of winter โ„๏ธ plus what about the facilities? they already renovated them for fisu world uni games a few years ago, can they really take on that kind of strain again? ๐Ÿค”

omg u guys ๐Ÿคฉ i think this is a great idea!!! lake placid has everything they need to host the winter olympics already, like the olympic facilities and all ๐Ÿ”๏ธ and carroll is right that nyc can handle the big events like ice hockey and figure skating - just imagine madison square garden filled with winter olympics fans cheering on their fave teams! ๐Ÿ’ฅ plus it's not as expensive to host the wintery games, so ny state could actually save some cash ๐Ÿค‘ but u know governor hochul said she'd support him, so we'll have to see how that all plays out... maybe 2038? ๐Ÿคž can't wait for the olympics to come back to lake placid!

I gotta say, hosting the Winter Olympics again is a pretty cool idea! ๐Ÿคฉ But I think we need to consider a few things before jumping into it. For one, what's the plan for the infrastructure costs? We know that co-hosting events can be expensive, and Lake Placid might not have all the necessary facilities on its own. And then there's the issue of public transportation - how are people going to get around if they're not from upstate NY?

I also wonder if it's a good idea for New York City to take on most of the indoor events while Lake Placid handles the outdoor ones. It could be overwhelming for both cities, and what about the costs of maintaining these facilities year-round? ๐Ÿค”

The thought of the Winter Olympics returning to Lake Placid is kinda exciting ๐Ÿ”๏ธ! I mean, I remember my grandkids used to watch those games when they were younger, and now it's an opportunity for them to experience something so cool without having to travel all the way to Europe. Plus, if New York City can take care of the indoor events, that's a big weight off Lake Placid's shoulders ๐Ÿ™. I'm not sure what the logistics would be like, but if they can make it work, it could be huge for the local economy and tourism industry. And who knows, maybe we'll even get to see some more figure skating and hockey events!

I'm thinking they're gonna make a big deal out of this ๐Ÿค”. I mean, Lake Placid has that Olympic vibe already going on with all the facilities they renovated for the FISU World University Games last year. And if New York City can handle the indoor events like ice hockey and figure skating at iconic venues like MSG and Citi Field... it's doable ๐Ÿ’ช. But, I gotta wonder what the costs are gonna look like ๐Ÿค‘. If we're talking co-hosting with Milan-Cortina, that's a whole different ball game โšฝ๏ธ. What I hope is that the state's already invested in those Olympic-class facilities pay off and the games happen without breaking the bank ๐Ÿ’ธ

๐Ÿค” I'm not convinced this is a good idea... I mean, think about all the costs involved, right? Hosting the Winter Olympics is already a massive undertaking, but bringing them back to Lake Placid on top of it? It just seems like a money pit ๐Ÿšฎ. And what's with the co-hosting model from Milan-Cortina? Has anyone even seen how that went down in real life? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ I'm not buying it...

omg like I guess it's about time NY gets some actual snow games ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ idk if lake placid is really equipped for all that though, i mean it just hosted uni games last year... but hey, more ice rinks can never hurt ๐Ÿ’๏ธ maybe they should just put the whole thing on nyc and be done with it lol like who needs lake placid anyway? ๐Ÿ˜’

idk why ppl need 2 think about hosting Olympics again ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ lake placid has all the facilities already & NYC can handle the big events. it's just a matter of getting the gov and mayor on board. think about the $$$ tho... hosting a winter olympics is def gonna be expensive, but if done right, it could bring in some serious cash for the state ๐Ÿ’ธ

I'm so down for this! ๐Ÿคฉ Bringing back the Winter Olympics to Lake Placid would be a huge win for our state's sports scene ๐Ÿ…๐ŸŽฟ. I mean, think about it - we already have all the necessary infrastructure in place from hosting other major events like the FISU World University Games ๐ŸŒŸ. It's just a matter of getting everyone on board and making it happen ๐Ÿค. And let's be real, who wouldn't want to see some of the world's best athletes competing in Lake Placid? โ„๏ธ The potential for economic growth and tourism is huge too! ๐Ÿ’ธ We'd get people coming from all over to watch the games and experience what our beautiful state has to offer ๐ŸŒ„. I'm all for it - let's make this happen, NY State! ๐Ÿ’ช

idk why ppl are so down on lake placid 2038 could b a sick event! think about it, NYC wud handle big indoor events while lake placid handles the ice sports & outdoor stuff ๐Ÿ”๏ธ๐ŸŽฟ. plus, they've already renovated the olympic facilities so its not like they're starting from scratch ๐Ÿ’ช. governor hochul's hintin at support so fingers crossed! what u guys think about lake placid hosting the winter olympics again?

idk why ppl wanna bring back winter olympics lol ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ like whats wrong with summer games or whatever? lake placid already had the world university games so what's the big deal about hosting another event? and co-hosting with milan-cortina is just a fancy way of saying "we're not capable of handling it alone" ๐Ÿ˜’ plus, isn't the whole point of olympics to bring ppl together in peace and sportsmanship? hosting it in lake placid would just be a bunch of rich folks traipsing around and making a mess ๐Ÿ‚

Ugh ๐Ÿคฏ I'm so stoked that Assemblymember Robert Carroll is finally taking a stand for Lake Placid! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ It's about time someone tried to make a difference, you know? The whole town has been suffering since the Olympics left, and it's not like they even got any major events after 1980 ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I mean, can you imagine what it would be like to have the Olympics back in our own backyard? It'd bring so much life to the area! And let's be real, it's not like we don't have some amazing venues already set up โ€“ Madison Square Garden, Citi Field... those places are going to be lit for figure skating and hockey ๐ŸŽ‰. I'm really hoping that Governor Hochul will get on board with this too, it'd make such a huge difference for the town. And you know what the best part is? It's not like we're breaking the bank or anything ๐Ÿ˜‚, we can just pool our resources and make it happen! Bring it on, 2038 ๐ŸŽ‰
