Backlash after New Zealand government scraps rules on incorporating Māori culture in classrooms

😡🤯 I'm shocked, just shocked! Scraping the treaty requirement? Are they kidding me?! 🙄 What's next, removing the word "sorry" from apologies? 😒 It's not about making it easy on schools, it's about acknowledging and respecting Indigenous culture. This decision is a huge step back for New Zealand's progress on reconciliation. I'm so tired of hearing that policy changes won't make a difference... where's the evidence?! 🤔 We need to keep pushing forward, not taking steps that could harm social cohesion and erase our history. 💔

🤕 I'm so sad to hear this! Removing the treaty requirement would be like taking away a vital thread that weaves together our country's history, culture, and values. It's not about forcing anything on schools, it's about acknowledging and respecting our Māori brothers and sisters' stories, traditions, and perspectives. 🌿

It's also worrying to think that the progress made in promoting Indigenous rights and cultural revitalization would be undermined. I mean, we've come so far since 2020, and now we're taking a step back? 🔄 It's like erasing our identity, you know? And what about those Māori kids who rely on schools to reflect their culture and way of life? How will they feel when this requirement is taken away from them? 😔

I'm all for making things fair and accessible, but at what cost? 🤝 I think we need to find a balance here. Maybe we can work together with schools and educators to make the treaty requirement more flexible or inclusive, rather than scrapping it altogether. 💡 Let's not give up on our people's voices and stories! 💖
