I'm so sad to hear this! Removing the treaty requirement would be like taking away a vital thread that weaves together our country's history, culture, and values. It's not about forcing anything on schools, it's about acknowledging and respecting our Māori brothers and sisters' stories, traditions, and perspectives.
It's also worrying to think that the progress made in promoting Indigenous rights and cultural revitalization would be undermined. I mean, we've come so far since 2020, and now we're taking a step back?

It's like erasing our identity, you know? And what about those Māori kids who rely on schools to reflect their culture and way of life? How will they feel when this requirement is taken away from them?
I'm all for making things fair and accessible, but at what cost?

I think we need to find a balance here. Maybe we can work together with schools and educators to make the treaty requirement more flexible or inclusive, rather than scrapping it altogether.

Let's not give up on our people's voices and stories!
