Why expensive airline “premiums” don’t feel special at all

Airline "premiums" – those extra charges you pay when booking your ticket – have become increasingly popular over the years. But do these fees truly feel like an upgrade to a luxurious air travel experience?

The truth is, most of us don't see any tangible difference between our premium and non-premium flights. We may pick a window seat or get priority boarding, but that's about it. It's all just part of the overall cost of flying – something we're increasingly willing to pay for.

Airline pricing strategies are fascinating from an economics perspective. Airlines have mastered the art of self-selection and price discrimination. They offer various tiers of service, allowing customers to choose how much they want to pay for what they consider a premium experience.

What was once considered luxury is now available to everyone. Checked baggage, previously free with a ticket, has become a paid extra. Seats are packed closer together, boarding times are longer, and waiting for your checked luggage can be frustrating – all changes that haven't necessarily improved our flying experiences.

So why do airlines keep pushing the limits of what we're willing to pay? The answer lies in understanding consumer behavior. Airlines have realized that people are willing to shell out extra cash if it makes them feel better about their flight.

In reality, airlines aren't really interested in improving customer comfort; they just want to make more money. And since all major carriers follow similar business models, there's little incentive for any one airline to go above and beyond when it comes to service quality.

The result is a system where airlines continuously raise prices without offering much of an upgrade. Whether you're flying economy or first class, the experience often feels the same – more like a commercial transaction than a luxurious retreat.

I dont get why ppl pay extra for window seat lol I mean its just a seat 🤣. And yeah i can see how airlines got clever with pricing and making us think we need all these extras to feel fancy. But honestly, its just so frustrating when u pay more for the same old experience 💸. Like what even is the point of checking in 2 hours early if im still gonna be stuck in a crowded plane? 🤦‍♀️

I gotta ask, have you guys really checked what's going into those "premium" fees? Like, are they actually using that money to improve service or is it just more cash in their pockets? I'm calling BS on this notion that airlines care about customer comfort when they're just trying to squeeze every last penny out of us. And don't even get me started on the whole self-selection thing - if you want a "premium" experience, you have to pay for it. Meanwhile, those of us who can't shell out extra cash are stuck with the same old mediocre service... 🤑

I'm so done with these extra fees!! 😩 I mean, I get it, airlines need to make money and all that jazz... but can't we just get some actual upgrades? Like, have you tried to book a flight lately? It's like they're testing your willpower! 🤣 "Would you pay extra for a window seat?" Um, yeah, I'd pay anything for more legroom! 🛋️ And don't even get me started on the checked baggage fees... it's like they're nickel and diming us to death! 💸 I swear, if I have to pay extra for every little thing, my wallet is going to hate me. Can we just go back to the good ol' days when flights were actually luxurious? 🙄

I feel meh about these airline "premiums" 🤔. Like, I get it, some people wanna pay extra for a window seat and all that jazz. But honestly, it's just not worth it to me. I mean, have you seen the seats on some of those premium flights? They're basically same as economy, but with a fancier price tag 🛍️.

And don't even get me started on the extra fees for checked baggage and whatnot. It's like, I know airlines wanna make money, but can't they just include those things in the ticket price or something? 🤑

I think it's all about psychology, tho. Airlines are just preying on our desire to feel special when we fly. Newsflash: even if you're paying extra, you're still stuck on a plane with screaming kids and snacks that taste like cardboard 😴.

Anyway, I'm not gonna lie, I'll still pay for some of those extras if it means avoiding the hassle of checking in or dealing with delayed flights 🙅‍♂️. But overall, I think airlines are just milking us for all we're worth 💸.

I think airlines are just trying to make us feel special by charging extra for all these little things 🤑. Like, I'm fine with my window seat and priority boarding, I don't need all that extra stuff. And honestly, if I'm being real, some of the "upgrades" they're offering are just more expensive seats 😴. It's not like it's going to make a huge difference in how comfortable I am on the plane. Plus, I feel bad for people who can't afford those extra fees – shouldn't we all have access to those nice amenities? 🤔

I mean, have you ever noticed how airlines just keep adding fees for stuff that was once included? Like, I get it, they wanna make more cash but it's getting ridiculous 🤑. I fly premium and even with all those perks, it's still the same old experience. The seats are cramped, boarding is a nightmare, and don't even get me started on checking in luggage... it's just not worth the extra cash for me 😒. I think what they're trying to do is make you feel like your money is getting you something special but really it's just a marketing ploy 🎩. And honestly, it's not like they're investing that extra cash into making our flights better...

airlines are just really good at making us feel bad about paying for basic human rights like checked baggage and decent legroom 🤦‍♂️ I mean, who doesn't love the feeling of being squished into a seat with 3 feet of space on either side? And don't even get me started on those "priority" boarding groups... just a fancy way of saying we're still gonna be stuck behind everyone else at security 🚫. I swear, if I have to pay extra for oxygen, I'm outta here 💨.

I think we've been had 😒. I mean, don't get me wrong, having priority boarding and maybe a slightly wider seat is nice, but is it really worth the extra cash? For me, nope 🙅‍♂️. It's all just part of the ticket price, you know? And have you ever noticed how airlines are just nickel-and-diming us with checked baggage fees and whatnot? Like, come on, we used to be able to bring our bags for free! 😒

And it's all about perception, right? Airlines are preying on our desire for a "luxury" experience. They know that if they make you feel like you're getting something special, you'll pay extra 💸. But honestly, I think most of us just want to get from point A to point B without any hassle 🤷‍♂️.

I mean, have we really seen a difference in customer comfort? I don't think so 🤔. It's all just about raking in the dough at this point 💸. Airlines are making bank off of our willingness to pay for extra stuff, but are they really improving anything? Not really 👎.

I feel meh about these extra charges. I mean, I get it, they want to make more cash, but is it really worth paying extra for a slightly different seat or quicker boarding? I've flown economy and premium so many times now, and honestly, the difference doesn't seem that big 🤔. The real money-savers are when you factor in the checked baggage fees – that's where it gets annoying. And don't even get me started on how long it takes to get your luggage after landing 😩. I guess what I'm saying is, airlines need to think about what we really want as passengers, not just what they can charge us for 💸.

I mean, think about it 🤔... Airlines r really just tryin to squeeze every last penny outta us before we even get on the plane! They know ppl are willin to pay extra 4 stuff that's not all that different from the "non-premium" seats lol. Like, who needs a free checked bag when u can pay extra 4 it? 🤷‍♀️ It's all about makin a buck, not really carenin about our comfort or experiences. I feel like we're just becomin more and more price-sensitive... it's gettin ridiculous! 💸

Ugh, I'm so done with these airline "premiums" 🤯. Like, what's the point of paying extra for a slightly wider seat and some fancy boarding? It's just a bunch of marketing nonsense 📦. We all know that economy and first class are basically the same thing nowadays 😴. And don't even get me started on checked baggage fees - who thought that was a good idea? 🤪. Airlines are literally making money off our willingness to pay more for convenience, not because they care about customer experience. It's just a cash grab 🤑. I swear, if I have to pay extra for oxygen or something, I'm flying somewhere else 😂.

I feel me too... like I'm just paying extra for nothing 🤑. I mean, who needs checked baggage fees? And the seats are literally closer together nowadays 😴. It's all just part of the price tag. Airlines know we're willing to pay more if it makes us feel better about our flight, but is that really what we want? Shouldn't they be focusing on making the flying experience better for everyone? 🤔

And don't even get me started on the boarding times... longer and less comfy 😓. It's all just a way to make more cash, right? I mean, if I'm paying extra for a window seat, I expect it to feel like an upgrade 🛋️. But honestly, most of the time it feels like I'm just shelling out extra money without getting much in return 💸.

I guess what really gets me is when they talk about self-selection and price discrimination... like we're all just customers looking for a good deal 📈. It's not personal; it's just business, but sometimes I wish airlines would focus on making flying a more enjoyable experience for everyone 🌟.

omg I recently booked a premium ticket and honestly I didn't feel like it was worth the extra 500 bucks... I mean don't get me wrong I got priority boarding and all but it's not like I'm gonna be splurging on fancy meals or anything 🤑👀 plus I have to admit my friend who flew economy had a way better experience because they got seated near the bathroom 😂 anyway back to premium tickets... I feel like airlines are just taking advantage of people's willingness to pay more for the sake of feeling special 💸 but let's be real we're all still gonna be stuck in that cramped seat for 5 hours 🛑

I think airlines are just cashing in on our FOMO vibes 🤯 - we want to feel like we're getting a premium experience so bad! But honestly, I've flown premium and it's not that much of an upgrade from economy for me. The extra charges just add up quickly, you know? And yeah, airlines have mastered the art of nickel-and-diming us - who needs checked baggage or priority boarding when you can just pay more upfront? 🤑 It's all about what we're willing to pay, I guess... and if it means we feel better about our flight, then airlines are winning 🎉.

I mean think about it... we're paying more and more for what's kinda basically just added services 🤑🛫️. Like, who thought it was a good idea to charge us extra for checked baggage?! It's just annoying 🤦‍♀️. And don't even get me started on seats being closer together 🚀😩. I guess if people are willing to pay more for the "luxury" of having a window seat, that's their prerogative 😐. But overall, I think airlines are just trying to squeeze every last penny outta us before we fly 🤑💸.

I gotta say 🤔 I'm kinda disappointed that "premiums" are all about just making us feel better about our flight, not actually improving the experience 😐. Like, who needs that extra window seat when you're still gonna be crammed in with 10 others? And don't even get me started on those extra baggage fees 💸... it's like they're nickel-and-diming us to death! 🤑 But I guess that's just how airlines do things now, right? They know we'll pay up for the illusion of luxury 😎.

airlines are just milking us for all we're worth 🤑🛫️ u mean what's the point of paying extra for a window seat when it's basically just gonna be a regular old plane with some slightly less cramped seats? and don't even get me started on checked baggage fees, because who needs their luggage to show up within an hour of landing anyway? 🤷‍♀️ the whole premium thing is just a nice way of saying "we know you want to feel special, but we're not actually gonna make any changes" 😒

I mean, have you noticed how these airline "premiums" just seem to be a way for them to make more cash? I get it, some extra perks might feel nice, but I'm not convinced they're worth the extra cost 🤔. And let's be real, checked baggage was never that big of a deal back in the day... now we're shelling out even more $$ just to have our bags arrive when we want them to. It's all about the Benjamins, right? Airlines know we'll pay up for that "feeling" of luxury, but honestly, it feels like they're just nickel-and-diming us 🤑

OMG 🤯, I'm literally so over these extra fees airlines keep slapping on our tickets! Like, yeah, I get it, some people wanna splurge for that fancy window seat or priority boarding, but honestly, it's just not worth the extra $$$. And don't even get me started on the "luxury" of being able to check in online... 🙄. Airlines are so smart though, they know exactly what we're willing to pay for a feel-good factor and that's all they care about! It's like, come on airlines, if you wanna make us pay more, at least give us some real upgrades, not just tiny perks 🚫. I mean, have you seen the prices of first class lately? It's like, hello, that's just a fancy seat with some extra legroom! Where's the luxury in that? 😂
