Golden State Warriors' General Manager Mike Dunleavy has welcomed the team's new acquisition Kristaps Porzingis, who will make his debut after the All-Star break. Despite concerns over Porzingis' injury history, with the 7-foot-2 center having played in only 60+ games in the past seven seasons, Dunleavy and coach Steve Kerr expressed confidence that he can contribute to the team this season.
The Warriors acquired Porzingis from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield. However, Dunleavy made it clear that the team did not pursue Jimmy Butler or Draymond Green, who was also a subject of speculation, in any potential trades involving Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Dunleavy took aim at Kuminga, stating that he wished him well in Atlanta. However, when asked directly about the young player, Dunleavy remained level-headed.
On the other hand, Golden State's veteran star Draymond Green has been vocal about his intentions to return from his runner's knee injury after the All-Star break. According to Green, if a deal were to be made for Giannis Antetokounmpo, Porzingis would have to be included in the trade.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Porzingis' debut and potential impact on the team, Dunleavy remains optimistic about the Warriors' flexibility to make deals. With all of their draft picks intact and an open roster spot available after signing Pat Spencer to a standard contract, the Warriors are poised to make moves in the offseason.
For Porzingis, he's excited to join forces with Al Horford and play alongside veteran star Steph Curry. "Just watching him from the outside, he's unreal," Porzingis said of Curry. "I think it brings the level up for everybody, when you have somebody like that on your team, a special player, it just makes everybody greater."
When asked about his own impact on the team, Porzingis described himself as someone who can provide a boost to Golden State's roster after the All-Star break.
