TV tonight: Dawn French and Mark Heap's hilarious new sitcom

"Can You Keep a Secret?" on BBC One promises to deliver kooky hijinks and laugh-out-loud moments. Recently widowed Debbie Fendon, played by Dawn French in top form, needs to confess a secret to her grown-up son Harry: his oddball father William isn't actually dead, but rather hiding in the house after receiving a life insurance payout of Β£250,000. As Debbie's new-in-town friends from the widows' club drop by to offer their support, Harry must decide whether to keep the family secret or let it all spill out.

On Channel 4, "Patience" returns with Ella Maisy Purvis reprising her role as autistic archivist Patience, who assists York police in solving baffling cases. Her new boss, DI Monroe, played by Jessica Hynes, is a brilliant but somewhat abrasive officer who may hold back on inclusivity, prompting Patience to seek out some unexpected help.

Meanwhile, on BBC Two, archaeologist Prof Alice Roberts uncovers Roman cemeteries and artifacts from Bradford's 1904 exhibition. In one of the largest Roman discoveries in Britain, a team near Penrith unearths new treasures that shed light on the region's ancient past.

On ITV1, the sleepy period drama "Grantchester" returns for its tenth season, with Rishi Nair playing Alphy, who is hit with his parishioners and particularly with local librarian. When a protest turns deadly, Geordie (Robson Green) must navigate small-town life to uncover the truth.

In a somber tone, Channel 5 airs "Surgeons: A Matter of Life or Death," capturing the sensitive story of an army veteran struggling with nerve pain and tongue cancer. The new series explores Luke's much-needed surgery through candid footage at University Hospitals Birmingham.

Lastly, Channel 4's documentary series "The Murder of Laci Peterson" delves into the dramatic events that unfolded in Modesto, California, where eight-month pregnant Laci disappeared on Christmas Eve in 2002. This six-part series offers a gripping look back at the investigation and its aftermath.

I'm so down for some laughs with "Can You Keep a Secret?" 🀣 it sounds like Dawn French is going to bring the funny as Debbie, but I do hope they tackle some deeper issues too.

On Channel 4's "Patience", I think it's amazing that they're highlighting autism and inclusivity. I've got friends with autistic kids and they can be absolute legends, so it's about time we see more representation on TV 🀝

But what really caught my eye is the Roman excavation doco on BBC Two – ancient history is literally my jam! I mean, who doesn't love a good archaeological mystery? 🏯️

And finally, "The Murder of Laci Peterson" sounds like it's going to be super emotional. I've heard it's based on real events, so you know it's going to be gripping – but also a bit unsettling πŸ˜”

I'm kinda excited about the new shows coming out but I'm also kinda worried that some of them might be sensationalizing things they shouldn't be πŸ€”. Like with "The Murder of Laci Peterson", it's always hard to watch a dramatization of something that was so traumatic for the family involved. But at the same time, I guess it can be really helpful for people who are interested in true crime and want to learn more about the case.

And yeah, I'm loving "Grantchester" - Robson Green is like my fave actor ever! πŸ™Œ He's always so good in his roles. And the fact that they're doing a new season is like yay! However, I do hope they don't make it too cheesy or predictable this time around.

On the other hand, "Can You Keep a Secret?" sounds like it could be hilarious, especially with Dawn French playing Debbie Fendon 🀣. But I'm not sure if the show will live up to its premise... we'll just have to wait and see!

I'm so stoked for all these new shows coming out 🀩! I mean, "Can You Keep a Secret?" sounds like it's gonna be a wild ride with Dawn French - she's always been a comedic genius. And "Patience" is giving me all the feels, I love how they're representing autism in a positive way πŸ’–. Meanwhile, Prof Alice Roberts on BBC Two is like, my history nerd dream come true πŸ”. It's awesome to see more period dramas on ITV1 like "Grantchester", who doesn't love a good whodunit mystery? πŸ€” And I'm getting chills thinking about the powerful docu-series "Surgeons: A Matter of Life or Death" - it's always important to shed light on mental health issues πŸ’•. But what really got me excited is the return of "The Murder of Laci Peterson", I've been meaning to watch that for ages πŸ“Ί!

πŸ€” I'm like, totally confused about this whole "Can You Keep a Secret?" thing πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. I mean, I love Dawn French, but is she really going to make me laugh that hard? πŸ’β€β™€οΈ The premise sounds kinda weird, and I'm not sure if it's just going to be one big mess 🀯. Has anyone else seen the trailer or anything? πŸ˜‚ On a more serious note, though, I'm really interested in "The Murder of Laci Peterson" docu-series - have you guys heard anything about that? It sounds super intense πŸ€•

I gotta say, BBC One's got a new show called "Can You Keep a Secret?" and it sounds like it's gonna be a wild ride 🀣. I love how they're tackling family secrets and weird life insurance payouts – it's like a British take on that classic rom-com "Pretty Woman". But seriously, have you seen the cast? Dawn French is back in top form, and I'm all about supporting my girl πŸ’β€β™€οΈ.

On another note, I feel like Channel 4 is really pushing the boundaries with their new shows. Like, "Patience" on Channel 4 is tackling some heavy topics, but it's also so well done. Autism representation matters, and I love that they're bringing this story to life 🎨.

I'm also excited for the documentary series on Channel 5 – "Surgeons: A Matter of Life or Death" sounds like a real tearjerker 😭. We need more shows like this, highlighting important social issues and sharing people's stories.

Lastly, I'm curious about that new docu-series on Channel 4 about Laci Peterson's murder case πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™€οΈ. It's gonna be interesting to see how they piece together the investigation and its aftermath.

I'm not sold on this lineup... seems like Channel 4 is giving more airtime to shows about autistic characters πŸ€”, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but does make me wonder if they're getting some kind of funding or sponsorship deal with autism awareness groups? πŸ€‘ Also, what's up with the "Grantchester" guy Alphy being hit on by his parishioners πŸ˜‚? Is that supposed to be funny or just creepy? And Channel 5's "Surgeons" documentary seems really heavy-handed, using sad music and everything... where are the actual medical experts giving their take on these cases? πŸš‘

I'm so over these "drama" shows 🀣. Can we just have something with some actual suspense for once? I mean, who gets to decide what's "kooky hijinks" and what's actually interesting? It feels like every show is just trying to be the next "feel-good comedy" πŸ’β€β™€οΈ. And don't even get me started on the BBC's obsession with period dramas πŸ™„. When are they going to tackle something with a little more bite? Give me some real drama, not just fluffy stuff about people finding out their dads are alive πŸ’Έ.

omg u guys I just watched "The Murder of Laci Peterson" on Channel 4 & I'm still reeling from it πŸ€―πŸ‘€ it's like, so intense & emotional they're doing an amazing job of piecing together the events that led up to her disappearance. and the documentary series format is so engaging u can really feel the weight of the investigation unfolding before ur eyes πŸ’” meanwhile "Patience" on Channel 4 has been a fave of mine since it premiered last year - Ella Maisy Purvis as Patience is literally my spirit animal πŸ™πŸŒ± I love how they're showcasing the importance of accessibility & inclusivity in law enforcement, and I'm excited to see where the show goes from here πŸ“ΊπŸ’–

I'm both excited and skeptical about these new shows 😐. "Can You Keep a Secret?" sounds like it's gonna be a laugh-out-loud comedy, but with a £250k life insurance payout twist? That's just a bit too weird for me. I need to see how it plays out on screen. On the other hand, "Patience" has been getting some great reviews about its portrayal of autism, so fingers crossed that Channel 4 is doing it justice 🀞.

Meanwhile, I'm intrigued by the Roman archaeology stuff on BBC Two... who wouldn't want to dig up ancient secrets? πŸ˜† But I also feel bad for Patience in "Patience" - having to navigate a less-than-inclusive workplace sounds super tough. And what's with all these dramas about tragedy and loss? I love a good story, but sometimes I just wanna watch something light-hearted for a change πŸ“Ί.

Last but not least, "The Murder of Laci Peterson" looks like it's gonna be a heavy show... six-part series can be a lot to handle, even if it is a true crime case. I hope they do justice to the real-life events and don't sensationalize them too much πŸ˜•

think this lineup is pretty good πŸ€”, but gotta say, BBC One's "Can You Keep a Secret?" feels like we've seen this type of comedy before... still, Dawn French is always a treat 😊, and I'm curious to see how the show balances humor with heart. as for Channel 4's "Patience", I love Ella Maisy Purvis's performances, but hope they don't gloss over the complexities of autism in favor of 'feel-good' moments 🀞. Roman archaeology is always fascinating on BBC Two, and Prof Alice Roberts is always a great narrator πŸ‘. "Grantchester" has been a staple for ages, but I'm not sure how long it can keep going πŸ’β€β™€οΈ. the Channel 5 doco about nerve pain is heartbreaking πŸ€•, and I appreciate its sensitivity. finally, that "Murder of Laci Peterson" series sounds intense – hope they do justice to the real-life story 😊

Omg, I'm so confused with this BBC One show "Can You Keep a Secret?" 🀯 It's like, Debbie keeps a huge secret from her son about his dad being alive, but then she has friends over and it's all gonna get out... what even is the point of that? πŸ€” Is it meant to be funny or something? And I'm still rewatching episodes of "Grantchester" on ITV1 because Robson Green is sooo good 😍 I mean, who plays a priest with a weird side hustle? πŸ™„

I'm so excited for this new season of "Grantchester" πŸ“ΊπŸŽ¬ I love how they always pick these great stories about small-town life, you know? It's like we've been through that drama in our school's staff room, where everyone's gossiping and stuff gets outta hand πŸ˜‚. But on a serious note, the Roman archaeology docos sound super interesting, I mean who doesn't love history, right? πŸ€“πŸ― As for me, I'm more of a "Can You Keep a Secret?" kind of person - it sounds like it's going to be so funny! πŸ˜‚ I wonder if they'll have any episodes about school teachers having secrets too... maybe something about why Mr. Johnson always smells so bad πŸ€ͺ?

I'm so over these reality TV shows πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ, but "Grantchester" is actually my guilty pleasure πŸ“Ί! I mean, Robson Green as Geordie is just too lovable 😊. And I love how they tackle real issues like small-town politics and corruption in a way that's relatable to us all 🀝. On the other hand, I'm still a bit skeptical about "Can You Keep a Secret?" - I mean, it sounds like it's gonna be a bit too wacky for my taste 😜. But hey, who am I to judge? I'll tune in and see if it's any good! πŸ‘€

I don’t usually comment but I think it’s kinda weird how some shows are just trying to fit a bunch of random storylines together. Like, you got "Can You Keep a Secret?" which is all about this crazy life insurance payout, and then suddenly they're switching to archaeology on BBC Two? It feels like they're trying to check off every box for TV drama. πŸ€”πŸ’₯

I'm low-key excited for "Can You Keep a Secret?" on BBC One 🀣 it sounds like Dawn French is bringing her A-game as Debbie Fendon, and I love a good family drama with lots of twists and turns! The cast looks hilarious too - I'm imagining some seriously awkward moments with Harry's dad sneaking around the house πŸ˜‚.

On another note, I've been hearing great things about "Patience" on Channel 4 πŸ™Œ Ella Maisy Purvis is doing an amazing job as Patience, and I love that the show is tackling important issues like autism representation and inclusivity. It sounds like it's going to be a really thoughtful and engaging watch.

And can we talk about Professor Alice Roberts on BBC Two? She's literally uncovering Roman cemeteries left and right πŸ―πŸ’« - it sounds like she's got some serious archaeological skills! I'm intrigued by the new discoveries in Bradford, and I love that she's shedding light on the region's ancient past.

Lastly, "Surgeons: A Matter of Life or Death" on Channel 5 is looking really somber but important πŸ€• I hope the documentary does justice to Luke's story - it sounds like a powerful exploration of the impact of surgery and treatment on patients. And the fact that it's airing on Channel 5 means it can't be ignored... let's get more conversations started about this topic! πŸ’¬

aww man i feel like debbie fendon is literally stuck between a rock and a hard place her son needs to know the truth about his dad but keeping it a secret from him would be super unfair considering her friends are already being super supportive maybe she should just have an open heart-to-heart conversation with her son and see what he says? πŸ€—πŸ’–

Ugh, just saw that Luke's tongue cancer doco is on Channel 5 😷 and I'm already getting anxious about it... Can't believe they're airing this on TV when people are still suffering from it in real life πŸ€• And omg, Laci Peterson's case is so tragic πŸš”πŸ’€ What's up with all the sad news lately? 😩

I'm all over this "Can You Keep a Secret?" BBC One thing πŸ˜‚, but I gotta say, I love how it's like, relatable, you know? Like who hasn't had to keep some crazy secret from their partner or family member at some point? And Dawn French is just perfection in this 🀣. On the other hand, "Patience" on Channel 4 sounds so poignant and important - autism rep is everything πŸ’–, but I'm a bit worried it's gonna be all over the place with the character development... Still excited to see how they tackle it though!

OMG, another bunch of shows to sift through... πŸ™„ I mean, who doesn't love a good period drama? "Grantchester" is like the OG guilty pleasure. But let's be real, have you seen the cast lately? Robson Green still got it πŸ˜‚. On a more serious note, I'm intrigued by "The Murder of Laci Peterson". True crime stories can be so captivating, but also super triggering... 🀯. And honestly, who wouldn't want to watch an autistic archivist solve cases? πŸ’‘ Ella Maisy Purvis is giving me all the feels with her character Patience. But what's up with BBC One's "Can You Keep a Secret" being called out for lack of diversity in their casting choices πŸ€”. Guess you can keep some secrets, but not others... πŸ‘€
