This Is Not the 'Talk to Me' Sequel We Had in Mind

A24, the production company behind viral YouTube sensation "Talk to Me," has taken a creative detour from the horror hit's planned sequel. The sibling directing duo Danny and Michael Philippou had teased their ambitions for a follow-up, but it now seems they've decided to branch out instead.

Instead of "Talk to Me 2" hitting theaters, A24 is partnering with Meta to bring the franchise to extended reality (XR) through six half-hour episodes created exclusively for Meta headsets. These episodes will be fully immersive, shot in 3D, and designed to transport viewers into the world of "Talk to Me," where a disembodied hand can possess anyone foolish enough to touch it.

The series follows a group of young travelers chasing the ultimate party on a European island until they discover the Hand, a supernatural force that's more deadly than any substance. The creative team behind this XR project includes Darren Brandl and Trent Atherton, who co-founded XRTV. Craig William Macneill, known for his work on "Castle Rock" and "Westworld," will be directing all six episodes.

The Philippou brothers expressed their enthusiasm for this new direction, explaining that the promise of XR is to map the story into viewers' own spaces, evoking a sense of presence and awe. They praised "Talk to Me" as an ideal project for XR because it explores themes of possession and spirit world interactions in a way that feels both thrilling and terrifying.

While fans may be disappointed by the lack of theatrical release for "Talk to Me 2," it's clear that the Philippou brothers are committed to bringing this franchise to new audiences. In an interview, Danny Philippou revealed that A24 was initially eager for him to make "Talk to Me 2" next, but he and his brother opted to take a break from the project to revisit it with fresh eyes.

As of now, there's no release date or title announced for the Meta and XRTV series. However, fans can expect more news on this innovative horror franchise in the coming months.

omg I cant even imagine how creepy and cool the XR episodes will be like they're saying they'll put you right in the middle of that eerie party πŸŽ‰πŸ˜± and yeah it's kinda sad they're not doing a movie sequel but at least its getting new life through XR πŸ‘

lol what happened 2 Talk 2 Me 2 πŸ€”? i mean im kinda stoked they're doin it 4 meta tho! extended reality is like whoa 😲 it's gonna be so trippy seein that hand possess people on ur headset πŸŽ₯πŸ’€

ugh i was really looking forward to "talk to me 2" being shot in theaters lol not to say it wouldn't be cool to see a horror show in xr but idk if my brain is ready for that kinda thing 🀯 still excited to see what they come up with tho, meta's getting in on the action and craig william macneill directing all 6 episodes sounds promising 🎬

πŸ€” This new direction is kinda cool, but also a bit confusing? I mean, I love how A24 is experimenting with XR, but "Talk to Me 2" was supposed to be a theatrical release... now it's gonna be on Meta headsets instead πŸ“Ί. I'm not sure if that's gonna work for me, but I trust the Philippou brothers and Craig William Macneill to make it happen 🀞. Extended reality is still kinda new to me, so I'll have to wait and see how this plays out πŸŽ₯.

OMG πŸ€―πŸ‘» I'm so stoked about this XR move! It's like, totally mind-blowing to think that we'll be able to dive into the world of "Talk to Me" in a whole new way 🌐. I mean, who wouldn't wanna experience the creepiness and thrills of that supernatural hand on their own terms? 😱 The fact that it's gonna be fully immersive and shot in 3D is giving me chills πŸŽ₯. Let's be real, theaters just can't compete with this level of tech πŸ˜‚. Fingers crossed they'll drop some juicy updates soon! πŸ‘€

.. I mean, have you ever stopped to think about what it means to 'see' something? Like, literally seeing it with our own eyes? Or are we just projecting our own experiences onto a screen? The way they're doing this XR thing, where you can literally step into the world of "Talk to Me," makes me wonder... do we ever truly experience reality, or is it all just a construct in our minds? It's like, what if the hand from the show isn't actually supernatural at all... but just a symbol for something way deeper? πŸ€”πŸ’‘

OMG I'm so confused about this Talk to Me thing πŸ€”... like isn't it a horror movie? And now they're making it in XR? Is that gonna be like super realistic or what? πŸŽ₯ I don't get why they can't just make the next part of the movie for real theaters tho 🍿. I mean, I know some people love VR and all but... I dunno πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. Is it gonna be scary tho? Like, is that disembodied hand thing gonna freak me out 😨?

It's like A24 is trying to change up their game πŸ€”. I'm all about exploring new tech in entertainment, but I gotta say I'm a bit bummed that "Talk to Me 2" is getting scrapped for an XR series instead. The idea of fully immersing viewers in the world of that creepy hand sounds straight outta sci-fi, and I love it πŸ’₯. It's like they're saying, "Hey, we've got this crazy story, why not take it to new heights...literally?" πŸš€ But hey, if the Philippou brothers think XR is the way forward, who am I to argue? Maybe this is exactly what the franchise needed to shake things up. Can't wait to see how it all comes together! πŸ‘€

Gorilla vs. Batman πŸ¦πŸ•·οΈ

When old plans go to hell, new ones get made πŸ”„
XR is where it's at, I'm feeling it πŸ”₯
Talk to Me 2 got dropped, but the real show's next πŸ’€
A24 and Meta are killing it with this XR hype 🀯

I'm loving how A24 is taking risks with XR! 🀯 They're all about pushing boundaries and exploring new ways to tell stories that actually transport us into other worlds. "Talk to Me" has already got a massive following, so I think this extended reality series is gonna be EPIC πŸ’₯! The fact that the Philippou brothers are on board and bringing their own spin to the project is exciting too. It's not about just making more of something familiar, they're actually creating something brand new and innovative. And can we talk about how cool it is that they're using Meta headsets? πŸ€– That tech is getting so wild!
