The Switch 2 is getting a new Virtual Console (kind of)

Hamster Corp. Is Reviving the Classic Game Experience with Console Archives on Switch 2.

In a move that's being seen as a major reversal by Nintendo, Hamster Corporation has announced the launch of its new "Console Archives" service, offering downloadable versions of retro console games for direct individual purchase on the Nintendo Switch 2.

The initiative marks a departure from Nintendo's own strategy, which ended the Virtual Console line in favor of time-limited access to classic games through a paid subscription service. However, Hamster Corporation is taking a different approach by giving consumers more control over their gaming experience.

As part of its announcement, Hamster has launched with two titles: Cool Boarders for the original PlayStation and Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos on the NES. Both games are available for purchase at $12 and $8 respectively, with more obscure titles, including Doraemon and Sonic Wings Special, slated to follow in the future.

Hamster's efforts are seen as a nod to its previous success with the Arcade Archive series, which has been re-releasing individual arcade games for purchase and emulated play on modern consoles since 2014. The company is expanding its efforts to include home console titles, aiming to faithfully reproduce masterpieces released on various platforms.

While these new offerings are more stripped-back than the full-fledged interactive museums released by other companies, they still include features like customizable button layouts, screen settings, and the ability to save and load at any time.

Hamster has made a plea for game developers to license or sell their rights to classic games, with the company's CEO stating that "everyone has different memories of games" and aiming to release as many titles as possible so people can rediscover and play the games that evoke fond memories.

The launch marks an interesting development in the gaming industry, with Hamster Corporation taking a bold step towards reviving the classic game experience.

๐Ÿค” I'm loving this move by Hamster Corp. It's about time someone broke the mold on how we access retro games ๐ŸŽฎ. The fact that they're making these consoles available for direct purchase is a huge departure from Nintendo's more restrictive approach ๐Ÿ‘€. By giving gamers control over their experience, they're allowing us to relive our childhood memories in a way that feels truly nostalgic ๐Ÿ“บ. Plus, the attention to detail in emulating classic games is impressive ๐Ÿ’ป. It'll be exciting to see which other titles get added to the lineup! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

omg i just got a new nintendo switch 2 ๐ŸŽฎ and i'm so hyped to try out these retro games ๐Ÿ˜† but like how do they manage to get permission from devs to release their old games? i mean, doesn't that kinda suck for the devs who didn't even get royalties or anything? ๐Ÿค‘ also, what's up with the prices? 12 bucks for cool boarders? that seems kinda steep ๐Ÿ˜‚

Omg I'm so down for this ๐Ÿ˜Š! Finally, we're getting to own our retro game libraries again ๐ŸŽฎ! It's like, we get to relive those nostalgic moments without having to rely on some paid subscription service that's just gonna cut us off eventually ๐Ÿ˜ค. Hamster Corp is totally doing it right here - giving us the freedom to purchase and play our fave childhood games whenever we want ๐Ÿ’–. Plus, who wouldn't want to relive the magic of Cool Boarders or Ninja Gaiden II? ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ‘

man I'm hyped about this ๐Ÿคฉ! like Nintendo was getting all chill on their classic games but hamster corp is stepping up and giving us options ๐Ÿ˜Ž. 12 bucks for cool boarders? that's a steal! i've been searching everywhere for that one... now if they could get more sega classics out there, that'd be a dream come true ๐Ÿคฏ. the thing that's got me curious tho is what games hamster corp will license next? are we gonna see some more obscure titles like stafabat and jet set radio? ๐Ÿ’ฅ

I'm super hyped about this new service! ๐ŸŽฎ It's amazing how hamster corp is bringing back those retro classics on switch 2. I mean, who doesn't love playing cool boarders or ninja gaiden II? The fact that they're giving us direct access to these games without a subscription is a game changer (pun intended) for me. Plus, it's awesome that they're working with developers to release more obscure titles - like doraemon and sonic wings special! I'm definitely downloading those. ๐Ÿ˜„

this is sick i mean like totally awesome hamster corp is stepping up their retro game and giving us more control over our gaming experiences ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ’ฅ

i'm so down for more obscure titles like doraemon and sonic wings special it's amazing how much nostalgia is flooding back just thinking about these games ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ‘€

and i love the fact that hamster corp is all about preserving game history and giving developers a chance to license or sell their rights to classic games ๐Ÿ’ผ๐Ÿ“š

the fact that they're offering customizable button layouts and screen settings is just icing on the cake ๐Ÿฐ๐ŸŽจ

i'm really excited to see what other titles hamster corp has in store for us ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ’ฅ

I'm actually kinda stoked about this! ๐Ÿคฉ I've been holding onto my old consoles for years just to play those retro games and it's awesome that they're making them available again. The price point is pretty sweet too, $12 for Cool Boarders? That's a steal! ๐Ÿ˜‚ I'm also loving the customizable button layout feature, it adds a nice touch of nostalgia. I've always been fascinated by the Arcade Archive series too, so this is like a dream come true. More obscure titles coming soon can't come fast enough! ๐Ÿ’ช

omg u guys i just got my hands on the new Console Archives service and its literally changing my life ๐Ÿคฉ i mean i know nintendo ended the Virtual Console line but hamster corp is giving me all the feels with their retro console games on switch 2 i've already downloaded cool boarders for the original ps1 and ninja gaiden ii on nes its so nostalgic i'm also super hyped about doraemon and sonic wings special being released in the future my friends and i are already planning a gaming marathon ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ’ฅ

๐Ÿค” This is awesome! I'm loving the fact that Nintendo isn't the only one offering retro gaming goodness on the Switch 2 ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ’ป. It's about time someone gave gamers more control over their gaming experience, you know? ๐Ÿ˜Š I mean, who doesn't love having the freedom to buy and play whatever classic games they want at any time? ๐Ÿ’ธ

I've been itching to get my hands on some of these retro titles, especially Ninja Gaiden II ๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ. The fact that Hamster's going for a more stripped-back approach actually kind of appeals to me - I don't need all those bells and whistles to just have a good old-fashioned gaming session ๐Ÿ˜Ž.

I think it's also pretty cool that they're trying to get game developers on board with licensing their classic games. Fingers crossed we'll see some amazing titles come out of this! ๐Ÿ’ฅ

๐Ÿค” I think it's awesome that Hamster Corp is bringing back the console archive vibe on Switch 2! They're giving gamers more control over their game collection and allowing us to buy individual titles without having to subscribe. It's like a breath of fresh air in a gaming world where we often have to sacrifice our cash for exclusive deals ๐Ÿค‘. Plus, who doesn't love revisiting old faves? I'm hyped about the launch and can't wait to see more obscure titles join the party ๐ŸŽ‰!

OMG u guys! I've got de tea on Hamster Corp's new Console Archives service ๐Ÿต๐Ÿ‘€ they're literally making retro games available for individual purchase on Switch 2... no subscription required!!! It's like a major middle finger to Nintendo's Virtual Console strategy, imo. They're giving consumers more control over their gaming experience and allowing them to buy & own the games outright, not just access them through a paid sub service. Plus, they're releasing some super obscure titles, so it'll be dope for retro gamers to dig through. And can we talk about how cool it is that they're aiming to get game devs on board to license their rights? It's all about giving people the freedom to play the games that bring back nostalgic memories ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘

I think its dope ๐Ÿคฉ that Hamster Corp is giving gamers the freedom to buy retro console games on Switch 2 without any subscriptions or time limits. It's like they're bringing back the old-school arcade vibes, but with more modern features ๐ŸŽฎ. I'm hyped to check out Cool Boarders and Ninja Gaiden II myself, and its cool that they're adding more obscure titles in the future ๐Ÿค”. The fact that they're making it easy for devs to license their classic games is a win-win ๐Ÿ’ธ. It's gonna be awesome to relive those childhood gaming memories ๐Ÿ˜Š.

I'm low-key hyped for this move ๐Ÿคฉ! I mean, who doesn't love reliving old favorites? But let's get real, it's about time Nintendo stepped up its own retro game offerings ๐Ÿ™„. This is what gamers like me have been asking for - more control over our gaming experiences and the freedom to buy or sell those classic games we're obsessed with ๐Ÿ’ธ.

I'm also stoked that Hamster Corp is pushing devs to license their rights to classic games, because it's about time we see some of these iconic titles back in the wild ๐ŸŽฎ. I'm thinking of picking up Cool Boarders ASAP - who else remembers playing that game on the PS all those years ago? ๐Ÿ˜†

I mean, who doesn't love paying $12 for a 2-hour old copy of Cool Boarders? ๐Ÿคฃ It's like they're saying "Hey, we know you want to play this ancient console game, but let's just make it more expensive and exclusive, okay?" ๐Ÿ˜‚ Still, I guess it's cool that Hamster Corp is giving gamers some control over their retro gaming experience. The NES version of Ninja Gaiden II looks decent too, plus the price is kinda reasonable ๐Ÿค‘. It'll be interesting to see what other classic games they release next, maybe some more obscure titles to cater to the hardcore retro gamers ๐Ÿ‘€.

๐Ÿค” You know I'm old enough to remember when gaming was all about collecting those tiny cartridges for your console... ๐Ÿ˜… It's great to see companies like Hamster Corp. bringing back that nostalgic feel. The fact they're offering individual game purchases on Switch 2 is a big win for gamers who want control over their experience.

I think it's smart of them to focus on releasing more obscure titles, too โ€“ it'll be a treasure hunt of sorts for fans looking to relive old memories or try something new. And with the customizable button layouts and screen settings, these consoles are really getting back to basics in a good way ๐Ÿ˜Š.

I'm hyped about this new move by Hamster Corp! It's like they're giving gamers more control over their retro gaming experience ๐ŸŽฎ. I love that you can just buy these games without having to subscribe or wait for them to be added to the service. The prices are pretty sweet too, $12 and $8 is a good price point.

I'm also stoked to see some classic PS1 games like Cool Boarders make a comeback ๐Ÿ„โ€โ™‚๏ธ. And Ninja Gaiden II on NES is a great choice too! I've played that game before and it's still super fun.

I think this is a win-win for both gamers and the devs who want to release their classic games. By giving gamers more options, Hamster Corp is making it easier for them to play these iconic titles again ๐Ÿ’ป.

Man, I'm not surprised they're doing this... like, who wouldn't want to take advantage of the nostalgia market, right? ๐Ÿค‘ I mean, people will pay good money for old games, even if it's just because it's "nostalgia" and not actually because they care about the gameplay or quality. And let's be real, these new consoles are all about milking every last bit of cash from gamers... Hamster Corp. is just another example of that. But hey, I guess for some people, it'll be a good way to relive their childhood memories and stuff. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

OMG I'm so stoked about this ๐Ÿ˜! I've been waiting for something like this on Switch 2 - it's like they're finally listening to us gamers and giving us what we want ๐Ÿคฉ. Buying individual games instead of a subscription service is total genius, you get the full experience with customizable options too ๐Ÿ’ป. Doraemon and Sonic Wings Special? Yes please! ๐ŸŽฎ I hope Hamster goes all out and releases tons of classic titles - it's like a dream come true for retro gaming enthusiasts ๐Ÿ˜Š. Can't wait to see what other masterpieces they'll bring back to life ๐Ÿ‘

I'm SO EXCITED TO SEE NINTENDO GETTING BACK INTO THE RETRO GAME SCENE!!! ๐Ÿคฉ I mean, who doesn't love having the option to buy and play their favorite childhood games without being locked into some subscription service? It's like Hamster Corp is saying "listen up, gamers, we got this!" And $12 for Cool Boarders?! THAT'S A STEAL! ๐Ÿ˜‚ I'm also loving the customizable button layouts and screen settings - it's like they're speaking our language now! ๐Ÿค“
