'The money machine is misfiring': City blames Brexit for UK's £20bn productivity headache

I don’t usually comment but... I think it’s weird how everyone’s blaming Brexit for the UK’s economic woes 🤔. Like, can we not just acknowledge that things were already pretty messed up before the leave vote happened? The City of London being a top financial hub is no joke, and it's hard to just switch off its influence overnight 💸. I'm still reading about how many bankers left for Frankfurt or Paris, but what about all the other industries that got hit too? Manufacturing, tech... I don’t know, it seems like this 'productivity puzzle' is way more complicated than just Brexit 🤷‍♀️.

And can we talk about tax increases on the financial sector for a sec? It feels like a pretty straightforward solution to some of these problems 💸. Like, if you want to see productivity growth again, maybe cut some of the special treatment those banks get and raise their taxes instead? Easy peasy 🙄.

omg yaaas i no brexit has been a total disaster 4 uk economy lol they cant even regen productivity growth 💸📈 its like they forgot how 2 drive growth 🤦‍♂️ chancellor rachel reeves needs 2 get her act toger 🙄 but dont @ me when labour tries 2 reboot city cuz u know i'll b supportin dem all the way 💕 american expat rob rooney thinks london is still gonna b big deal 💸👍 just as long as innovation keeps happenin 👀

so its no surprise that brexit has been a total disaster for the city of london 🤦‍♂️, i mean, who needs stability and growth when you can have uncertainty and job losses? 📉 experts say it all comes down to Brexit, but its easier to blame everyone else than accept your own government's lack of planning 💁‍♀️. and by the way, £21 billion in extra borrowing over a decade? that's just peachy 🤑, cant wait to see where that money goes.

I'm not buying all this hype about London being back as a major financial hub 🤔. I mean, sure, they're still getting some funding from startups, but let's be real, those young guns are just looking for cheaper rent and more relaxed regulatory environments 💸. The City's influence is waning because it's become complacent and outdated. We need to focus on reforming the industry, not just throwing money at it with tax breaks 🤑. And what about the economic instability? It's like they're trying to paper over problems instead of addressing them head-on 📊. I'm all for innovation, but let's not pretend that Brexit isn't having a major impact on their productivity growth 🤷‍♂️.

brexit really hit the UK hard 🤕 you know I was talking to this friend who used to work in finance in London and now they're struggling to find a new job it's crazy how much the city changed overnight... people were so sure it would be fine but it ended up being a nightmare for them. and honestly, I'm not surprised that the productivity growth is low - it just seems like the UK wasn't really prepared for the shift in the EU economy 🤔

I just wonder how much longer can London hold on as the UK's financial powerhouse 🤔. It seems like everyone's talking about it, but nobody's really sure what to do about it 😕. I mean, I've seen some of my friends who work in finance struggle to make ends meet since Brexit, and it's heartbreaking 🤝.

The City used to be all about innovation and growth, but now it feels like they're just trying to cling on to the past 💼. And don't even get me started on the politicians and their excuses for why things are the way they are 🙄. It's like they think we're not paying attention or something 👀.

But at the same time, I do think there's hope for London yet ✨. I've met some entrepreneurs who are starting up new businesses and creating jobs in creative industries, and that's what really gets me excited 💥.

It's just so frustrating when you see all this talent and potential being wasted because of a single decision 🤯. Brexit might be over, but the real work is just beginning ⏰. We need to find a way to rebuild and rediscover our economy, and fast 🔥!
