The Carpenter's Son review – Nicolas Cage is predictably miscast in dull biblical horror

Nicolas Cage's latest misstep is a baffling mess of horror, drama, and fantasy that fails to deliver on its intriguing premise. The Carpenter's Son, based on the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, promises an unconventional take on the life of Jesus Christ, but ultimately succumbs to a jumbled narrative and predictable miscasting.

Cage, known for his intense performances in films like "Pig" and "Dream Scenario," is woefully miscast as Joseph, the carpenter and adoptive father of Jesus. His over-the-top acting style clashes with the film's attempts at subtlety, resulting in a performance that veers wildly from muted to manic.

The script, penned by writer-director Lotfy Nathan, tries to blend elements of coming-of-age story, supernatural horror, and socio-political commentary. However, this eclecticism leads to a disjointed viewing experience, with the film's tone oscillating between eerie and awkward. The pacing is also frenetic, making it difficult to follow the narrative as it careens from one plot twist to the next.

The supporting cast fares little better, with FKA twigs struggling to bring depth to her character and Noah Jupe relegated to a thankless role. The film's reliance on atmospheric locations, primarily rural Greece, is its only saving grace, but even this can't compensate for the overall lack of coherence.

Ultimately, The Carpenter's Son feels like a product of inexperience and overambition, with Nathan and Cage struggling to find their footing amidst a maelstrom of conflicting ideas. As such, it's a disappointing and uninspired effort that fails to deliver on its promise of something new and exciting.

.. I just saw this Nicolas Cage film and boy, what a mess 🤯. I mean, I love the guy, he's always been good at getting into these intense roles, but in The Carpenter's Son, he just overacts, you know? Like, way too much. And it breaks up the whole tone of the movie, which is trying to be all mystical and eerie, but then Cage just goes full-on crazy and ruins it 😂. I don't think he was the right fit for this role, to be honest. The supporting cast didn't help either... it felt like they were all just phoning it in 🤷‍♀️. And that script? Ugh, it was trying to do too much and ended up being a hot mess 😩. I mean, I love a good horror story, but this one just fell flat. Such a shame, because the locations were actually really pretty and all... 👎

🤔 I just watched this Nicolas Cage movie with my friends and I gotta say, what was he thinking? 🤯 The guy is like an actor's actor, but in this one, it felt like he was overacting even more than usual... you know when someone says " method acting" and you're like "no dude, that just means they're really bad at their job"? 😂 Anyway, I love Nicolas Cage, I've seen him in some crazy movies before, but this one's a mess. The plot is all over the place and it feels like it was made by people who are still learning how to make a movie 🎬. I mean, can't we just get a good Jesus movie every now and then without having to think about what makes sense? 😂

Ugh, I'm still trying to wrap my head around Nic Cage's latest project 🤯... The Carpenter's Son just sounds like a mess, you know? Like, the premise is interesting enough, exploring the Infancy Gospel of Thomas and all that jazz, but then they just throw in every genre under the sun and hope it sticks. Newsflash: it doesn't 😂. And poor Nic Cage, I love him, he's usually on point, but miscasting Joseph as a carpenter? That doesn't work for me at all... FKA twigs deserves better than to be stuck with this script 🙄. Rural Greece locations are always beautiful though, maybe they should've just made a film about that instead?

I dont know what Nicolas Cage is thinking right now 🤯. One minute he's intense and raw in films like Pig, the next he's just being over the top again? 🙄 It seems like the filmmakers didn't figure out his style and it messes with the whole vibe of the movie. And honestly, I love FKA twigs but even she gets lost in this jumbled mess of a script 💔. The pacing is so fast you barely have time to catch your breath. 3 stars max from me 🤦‍♂️

Ugh 🙄 Nicolas Cage is just so hit or miss for me... I mean, I love him in "Pig" but this film is like, totally outta left field 😂. Who casts Nicolas Cage as Joseph? It's like they wanted to shake things up, but honestly, it just works against them. The script sounds kinda interesting at first, but the execution is so messy 🤯. I'm not sure what the point of "The Carpenter's Son" was supposed to be... was it a commentary on faith or something? It just left me all confused 😕. FKA twigs and Noah Jupe are wasted in their roles 🤷‍♀️. I guess atmospheric locations can only take you so far, but Greece does look pretty stunning 🌊. Anyways, not gonna be watching this one again anytime soon 👎.

I just watched this movie and I'm so underwhelmed 🤕. Nicolas Cage is all over the place in this one...his acting style is great, but he needs better material to play off of, you know? And I don't get what they were going for with FKA twigs' character...it felt like she just stood there most of the time 😒. The pacing was so fast, it was hard to even follow what was happening 🕰️. I'm a fan of Nicolas Cage, but this one's just not his best work 👎.

🤔 I'm just so underwhelmed by Nicolas Cage's latest flick 🎬 The Carpenter's Son seems like a cool idea at first, but then you watch it and you're like 'what just happened?' 😂 The pacing is all over the place and Cage's acting style just doesn't mesh with the tone of the film. I mean, I love him in "Pig" 🐖 but this just doesn't work. And don't even get me started on FKA twigs' character... she's got some great music out but acting just isn't her thing 🎵. It feels like they were trying to fit too many genres into one movie and it ends up feeling disjointed and messy. Maybe next time, guys? 😅

OMG u gotta see this Nic Cage movie... just kidding lol. The Carpenter's Son is literally the most confusing thing i've seen all year 🤯. I mean who thought casting Nicolas Cage as Joseph was a good idea tho? 🙄 He's like a one-man circus in there, overacting and whatnot. And don't even get me started on the plot twists... more like "twist" your mind into oblivion 😴. The only thing that kept me awake was when i caught myself daydreaming about Nic Cage's hair 🌸. But seriously, if u want to waste 2 hours of ur life tryin out this mess, be my guest 🎥

omg what a total letdown 🤯 Nicolas Cage just can't seem to get anything right lately lol but seriously this movie sounds like a mess idk what's going on or who the characters even are 🤔 i mean i love fka twigs but she deserves better than this thank u not noah jupe tho he's still my man 💖 anyway gotta say, 200 yrs ago ppl thought jesus was a weirdo for having like 12 wives lol talkin bout unconventional parenting goals 😂

omg i just saw this movie too 🤦‍♂️ what was nicolas cage thinking lol? he always brings the intensity but not in this case sadly they had some good ideas going on but it felt like a hot mess. all over the place with that tone it's more cringeworthy than scary or thought-provoking... no hate tho, just honestly disappointed 😐

🤯 oh man Nicolas Cage just can't seem to get it right anymore his latest film is like a trainwreck that you can't look away from 🚂 it's got all these crazy elements horror drama fantasy but none of them really work together 🤔 and poor nicolas trying to carry the whole thing on his back is just too much to handle 😩 i mean i love cage in other films like "pigs" where he's so intense but here its just overkill 💥
