Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers: 'We don't want to be the biggest band in the world. It's just fun playing with our besties'

Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers didn't exactly set out to become one of Australia's most exciting rock acts overnight. However, four 15-year-old friends who shared a passion for music did decide to start a band during a sleepover in 2015 after watching Richard Linklater's film 'School of Rock'. The joke name "Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers" was suggested by one of their uncles, which has stuck.

The teenagers' punk brio soon landed them gigs at venues they weren't even allowed to enter without an adult. Despite being only 16 or 17 years old at the time, adults assumed they were in their early twenties. The group's parents would sometimes attend shows with lemonade on hand for the riders.

"We thought we were really cool back then," laughs guitarist Scarlett McKahey, now 24. "It was pretty cool." Adds singer Anna Ryan, also 24. The band members never set out to become famous or break any records, but their music has resonated with fans worldwide.

After years of playing small gigs and honing their sound, the group released their debut album 'I Love You' in 2023. The album featured catchy tracks like "Salt" and "Ahhh!" that earned them Best Breakthrough Artist at the Aria Awards and a spot opening for Foo Fighters on their Australian tour.

Despite facing sexism and industry skepticism, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers have continued to produce music that showcases their talent and authenticity. Their latest album 'Glory' explores darker themes and features catchy hooks reminiscent of Wet Leg fans.

The band members have learned from past experiences and stand by each other in the cutthroat music industry. "We don't want to be the biggest band in the world; it's just fun playing with our besties," says McKahey. The bond between the four friends has endured despite their growth into professional musicians, and they continue to create music that speaks to fans worldwide.

The group has been open about their struggles with impostor syndrome and self-doubt as young women in the male-dominated industry. However, after years of perseverance, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers have established themselves as one of Australia's most exciting rock acts, armed with catchy hooks and an infectious energy that resonates with fans worldwide.

Their rise to fame has been marked by moments of triumph and vulnerability, but the core of their music remains authentic – a testament to the power of friendship and perseverance in the face of adversity.

I'm loving this Aussie rock band Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers!!! 🀘 They're like, totally relatable, you know? Four 15-year-old friends who just wanted to make music together and ended up becoming one of the most exciting acts out there. Their album 'Glory' is giving me all the feels - those catchy hooks are everything! πŸ’– I love how they've overcome sexism and industry skepticism with their authenticity and perseverance. It's like, so inspiring to see these young women in the music industry rocking it without apology. And can we talk about how adorable their story sounds? Starting a band during a sleepover after watching 'School of Rock'? That's like, the ultimate friendship goal! 😊

I mean I'm totally not saying they're overrated but honestly, have you heard their latest album 'Glory'? It's like, super catchy and all, but I don't know if it's just because they're still young and fresh out of school? πŸ€” I'm kinda worried that when they get older and wiser, they'll lose some of that raw energy. But at the same time, can we really put a price on being unapologetically yourself and making music that speaks to so many people? πŸ’– I guess what I'm saying is... πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

They're just so chill about it all πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. I mean, they didn't set out to be famous or anything, they just made music because they loved it. And now look at them! 🎸 They've still got that same energy and authenticity that drew people in from the start. It's really inspiring to see them stand by each other through all the ups and downs of the industry πŸ’•

I'm loving Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers' vibes 🀟! They're like the ultimate girl power band πŸ’β€β™€οΈ. I mean, who wouldn't want to be part of a group that's all about spreading positivity and good energy? Their music is infectious and makes me wanna dance all day β˜•οΈ! But what I really admire is how they've maintained their authenticity despite facing sexism and industry skepticism. They're proof that you can stay true to yourself and still make it big πŸ™Œ. Plus, their friendship is goals πŸ’– - it's amazing to see four friends who started a band together as teens still crushing it after all these years. I'm definitely gonna check out their latest album 'Glory'... can't wait to jam out to some more of that catchy goodness! πŸ‘

I think its all about embracing your unique vibe 🀘. Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers didn't try to force themselves into stardom; instead, they stayed true to themselves and let their passion shine through. Thats a lesson we can all learn from! Being in their shoes isn't easy, but the fact that they've overcome sexism, industry skepticism, and self-doubt shows us that with persistence and friendship, we can achieve our dreams πŸ’ͺ

OMG u guys!!! 😍🀩 i'm literally OBSESSED with Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers rn!!! they're like my ultimate fave band ever πŸ™ŒπŸŽΈ their music is so catchy & infectious, and i love how they've overcome so many obstacles to make it in the industry πŸ’ͺ🏼πŸ”₯ as young women in a male-dominated world, they're really inspiring me to chase my own dreams too πŸ’–πŸŽ€ can't wait to see what they do next!!! πŸ’«

omg these guys r so inspiring! they went from being 15 yr olds having sleepovers to making album after album 🀯 i love how they never took themselves too seriously and just had fun with it - that's what music should be all about 🎸 and can we talk about the fact that they're still super humble and down-to-earth despite their success? Scarlett McKahey's laugh is literally the best thing ever πŸ˜‚πŸ€£ Anna Ryan's vibe is so cool too, she's got this edgy charm that just works πŸ’β€β™€οΈ also love how they're not afraid to speak about impostor syndrome and self-doubt - we need more people like them in the music industry πŸ™Œ

The journey of Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers is like a metaphor for life itself 🌟... they didn't achieve fame overnight, but it was worth all the sleepless nights, gigs at underage venues, and lemonade-fueled after-parties. Their story teaches us that true greatness isn't about instant success or recognition, but about staying committed to your passion & values πŸ’ͺ. The fact that they've navigated sexism & industry skepticism with humility & perseverance is a huge lesson in resilience & empathy 🌈... we can all learn from their example to stay grounded despite the ups & downs of life!

omg i love this story!!! 🀩 teen jesus & the jean teasers are literally my spirit band πŸ’– they're so relatable, you know? i mean, who hasn't felt like impostors or had people doubt them when it comes to their passions? πŸ’” but what i admire most about these four girls is that they never let all that negativity bring them down 🌈 instead, they kept creating music with their friends and supporting each other every step of the way πŸ’• and now they're rockstars πŸ€Ÿβ€β™€οΈ!! their album 'glory' is giving me LIFE 😍 i love how they're still true to themselves and their art, even with all the fame and attention coming their way πŸ™

I mean, can you believe how fast these 4 mates went from playing gigs at 16 with lemonade on hand to opening for Foo Fighters? 🀯 It's like they tapped into something special with that School of Rock film. Anyway, it got me thinking - what does this say about our education system if a bunch of teenagers can just form a band and become successful without any formal music training? Shouldn't we be encouraging more arts programs in schools instead of just focusing on STEM? πŸ€”

they're so talented 🀩! i mean, who wouldn't want to be part of a band that's literally built on friendships and a shared passion for music? it's amazing how 'teen jesus and the jean teasers' went from playing gigs they weren't even allowed into as teens to now opening for foo fighters 😲 and still managing to stay authentic. i love how they've been open about their struggles with impostor syndrome - like, who hasn't felt that way at some point? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ anyway, can't wait to hear what they come up with next! πŸ’–

i'm loving the authenticity of teen jesus and the jean teasers 🀩 they're proof that you don't need to be 21 to make waves in the music industry! it's amazing how their passion for music brought them together and created a bond that still holds strong today πŸ’• the way they've used their platform to speak out about impostor syndrome and self-doubt is so refreshing πŸ™Œ and let's give it up for their uncles who came up with the iconic band name, lol 🀣

I'm so stoked for these girls!!! 🀩 They're literally proof that if you put your heart into it, you can achieve anything! I mean, starting a band at 15 and going on to tour with Foo Fighters? That's wild! 😲 And I love how they've stayed true to themselves, despite all the sexism and skepticism they've faced. It's not always easy being in a male-dominated industry, but they're rocking it (pun intended)! πŸ’β€β™€οΈπŸŽΈ Their music is so catchy and fun, and I'm loving their latest album 'Glory'! 🀘

I'm loving this underdog story 🀩! These Aussie rockers went from playing gigs without adults' permission to opening for Foo Fighters on their tour? That's wild πŸ’₯. I mean, I get it, sexism and industry skepticism are still real issues for women in music, but Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers have proven themselves with their catchy hooks and authentic sound 🎸. It's inspiring to see a group of friends stick together and support each other through thick and thin 🀝. And can we talk about how refreshing it is that they're not chasing fame or trying to be the biggest band in the world? They just want to have fun playing music with their mates 🎢. I'm all for that kind of vibe!

omg I feel so inspired by teen jesus and the jean teasers 🀩🎸 they're literally proof that if you chase your passion no matter what age or experience you have, you can achieve your dreams! i mean, who starts a band at 15? πŸ˜‚ but seriously, their story is so relatable - they've been through sexism and industry skepticism just like many of us in the music scene. it's amazing to see them stand by each other and keep creating music that's true to themselves. I'm totally loving their new album 'glory' too! πŸ’–

idk how they still manage to be so down-to-earth after all the fame & fortune. it's like, one minute you're 15-year-old kids playing gigs at bars with lemonade on hand, next minute you're opening for Foo Fighters and getting awards πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. i guess that's just part of the luck they got when they were still under 18.

omg i'm so loving teen jesus & the jean teasers right now 🀩 they're like literally the definition of teenage angst turned into amazing music πŸ’– i mean who wouldn't want to be part of a band that's all about having fun and playing with their besties? their latest album 'glory' is giving me all the feels, especially "salt" - it's like the perfect anthem for anyone who's ever felt like they're stuck in a rut πŸŒͺ️ i'm so here for their authenticity and refusal to conform to industry expectations πŸ’― can't wait to see what they do next! 🎸
