'Sinners' sets Oscar record with 16 nominations

Ryan Coogler's vampire epic "Sinners" has shattered the record for most Oscar nominations, landing a staggering 16 nods, including Best Picture. This surpasses the previous records held by "All About Eve," "Titanic," and "La La Land."

The film's critical acclaim is no surprise, as it was widely praised by critics and audiences alike, raking in nearly $280 million at the North American box office and a worldwide gross of $368 million. Coogler received nominations for Best Director and Best Screenplay, while lead actor Michael B. Jordan earned a nod for his dual role in the film.

The cast of "Sinners" is also well-represented, with Delroy Lindo and Wunmi Mosaku receiving nominations for their supporting performances. The film's technical achievements have also been recognized, including Cinematography, Visual Effects, Sound, Production Design, Editing, Casting (a new category), Costume Design, Song, Score, Makeup and Hairstyling.

The Oscars' inclusion of a horror film in the Best Picture category is an interesting development, following last year's nomination of "The Substance" starring Demi Moore. However, this trend seems to be continuing with "Sinners." The film faces stiff competition from other titles like "One Battle After Another," which earned 13 nominations, including Best Supporting Actress for Amy Madigan.

CEO David Zaslav hailed Warner Bros.' commanding position in the Oscar race, stating it as a "truly golden moment" and a validation of their strategy to believe in original storytelling. This comes as Netflix and Paramount Skydance vie for control of the studio, which boasts an impressive portfolio of films including HBO.

Coogler and Jordan have collaborated on several projects since Coogler's feature debut "Fruitvale Station" in 2013, with Jordan starring in Coogler's hit films "Creed" and "Black Panther." The Academy has been recognizing horror films more prominently this year, and "Sinners" continues the trend.

The Best Picture nominees include "Sinners," "One Battle After Another," along with eight other titles: "Bugonia," "F1," "Frankenstein," "Hamnet," "Marty Supreme," "The Secret Agent," "Sentimental Value," and "Train Dreams." The competition is fierce, but "Sinners" seems poised to make a strong showing at the Oscars.

😊 16 Oscar noms for "Sinners" is crazy! I mean, the film was already looking great with that $280 million box office haul, so this just solidifies its spot as one of the top contenders of the year. The cast's recognition is also a big plus, especially Delroy Lindo and Wunmi Mosaku who are always talented actors 🀩.

It's interesting to see how Warner Bros. is leveraging their horror film inclusion in the Best Picture category to gain an edge over other studios like Netflix and Paramount Skydance. The competition for Best Director and Best Screenplay nods will be fierce, but I think Coogler's skills will give him a good shot πŸŽ₯.

The fact that "Sinners" has broken the record for most Oscar nominations is a testament to Ryan Coogler's ability to craft compelling stories that resonate with both critics and audiences. His collaboration with Michael B. Jordan on several projects shows their chemistry as directors and actors, which definitely pays off in this film πŸ’ͺ.

It'll be exciting to see how "Sinners" stacks up against other films like "One Battle After Another" in the Best Picture category. With its impressive technical achievements and well-rounded cast, I think it has a good shot at taking home that top prize πŸ†.

I gotta say, 16 Oscar nods for "Sinners" is wild 🀯! It's not surprising though, Ryan Coogler's got a track record of making iconic films like "Creed" and "Black Panther." Michael B. Jordan is killing it in Hollywood right now, and I'm glad to see him getting the recognition he deserves πŸ™Œ. The inclusion of horror films in Best Picture is definitely an interesting twist, but I think it's awesome that they're giving more chances to different genres.

I'm excited to see how "Sinners" stacks up against some of the other nominees. It's gonna be a tough competition, but if anyone can bring home the gold, it's Coogler and his team πŸ’ͺ. Fingers crossed for them!

omg 16 oscar noms for "sinners"?? thats insane! Ryan Coogler is def one of the most talented directors out there rn, and michael b jordan's acting skills are on another level 🀩 its great to see him getting recognition too! i'm low-key hyped for this film to win best picture, but also kinda nervous since "one battle after another" is giving them a run for their money πŸŽ₯πŸ‘€ the horror genre isn't typically oscar-friendly, so it's cool that "sinners" is breaking the mold πŸ‘»

omg i cant even imagine how hyped ryan coogler must be rn πŸ˜‚πŸŽ₯ 16 oscars? that's insane!! i mean its no surprise tho since sinners got so much love from critics and audiences alike, but still 280 mil at the box office is crazy πŸ’Έ i'm rooting for michael b jordan to win best actor tho πŸ‘Š fingers crossed 🀞

I'm not buying it πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ. A vampire epic getting 16 Oscar noms? Sounds like a marketing ploy to me πŸ“¦. I mean, don't get me wrong, Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan are talented filmmakers, but this just feels like another example of Hollywood trying to cash in on the latest trend πŸ’Έ. And what's with all these technical achievements? Are we seriously awarding Oscars for "best cinematography" now πŸ“Ί? It just seems like a way to justify their expensive budgets πŸ€‘.

OMG, 16 Oscar nominations? That's like me getting 16 free pizza deliveries from Pizza Hut πŸ•πŸ‘€! Ryan Coogler must be doing something right, and I'm not just saying that 'cause I love a good vampire epic πŸ’‰. But seriously, it's awesome to see "Sinners" breaking records and making history. And can we talk about the Best Picture category now being open to horror films? That's like adding a new level to Candy Crush – game-changer! πŸ˜„
