Sam Curran: England seamer takes hat-trick as tourists win first T20

Sam Curran, a Surrey all-rounder, marked the beginning of England's successful return to international T20 cricket with an impressive hat-trick as they edged past Sri Lanka by 11 runs in Pallekele. The hosts' innings was ravaged by spinners Adil Rashid and Liam Dawson, taking 3-19 and 2-31 respectively, before Curran took over, dismissing Dasun Shanaka and two lower-order batsmen for a total of 38 runs. With this win, England now leads the three-match series 1-0.

Curran's hat-trick was a thrilling moment in an otherwise dominant performance by England's spinners. The hosts had looked strong after opening batters Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis put on a partnership of 52 runs off 28 deliveries, reaching 76-1 in the eighth over. However, Rashid and Dawson quickly stemmed the flow, taking wickets in five consecutive overs to reduce Sri Lanka's order to 133 all out.

In response, England batsmen Salt and Phil hit a blistering 49-run stand for the first wicket before losing two more wickets on the way to a final total of 125-4. Sam Curran wrapped up the innings with a hat-trick off the last three balls of the 16th over.

The win marked England's second T20 international hat-trick, following Chris Jordan's impressive feat in 2024 against the United States. The Surrey all-rounder has established himself as an integral part of England's team and is set to continue his form in the upcoming matches.

England now heads into the next match at the same ground on Sunday with a strong momentum and hopes to maintain their winning streak.

man, this Curran kid is like a breath of fresh air for england's cricket team you know? he just takes over when things are looking bleak and turns it around like that hat-trick was like a metaphor for the team's resilience... and i love how they're leading the series 1-0, but at the same time, they can't let their guard down 'cause there's still so much to play for. it's like, you know when life gives you lemons, make lemonade, right? england's got that winning formula going on and i'm hyped to see what happens next 🤩

🏆 I'm loving how Sam Curran's hat-trick was the game-changer for England! 🔄 They were struggling after Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis' solid start, but those spinners Adil Rashid and Liam Dawson really stepped up their game and turned the tide. And now with 11 runs between them, I'm like "what a performance" 😍! 👏 Curran's hat-trick was such an electric moment, and it shows he's definitely got what it takes to be a top player in international cricket 🎯 Can't wait for Sunday's match at Pallekele - England's momentum is looking strong 💪

OMG, I'm dyin' over Sam Curran!! 😍 That hat-trick was INSANE!!! I mean, 3 wickets in 3 balls is just pure magic 💫! And can we talk about how England's spinners are on fire?! Adil Rashid and Liam Dawson were like ninjas out there, taking down Sri Lanka's batsmen left and right 🕷️! I'm so hyped for the next match, England needs to keep this momentum going!!! ⚡️ We're gonna crush it, team England!!! 💪

OMG, what a game!!! 🤩 Sam Curran totally deserved that hat-trick, he's been playing so well lately! 😎 I was on the edge of my seat when he took out Dasun Shanaka, what a save for England! 🙌 The Sri Lankan batsmen were all over the place, couldn't even handle the spinners. 🤯 Meanwhile, Salt and Phil were like fire on ice, such a great partnership! 🔥 I love how Curran's confidence is growing with each game, he's going to be a superstar for England! ⭐️ This win sets them up so well for Sunday's match, they should totally crush it now! 💪

omg what a day for england's cricket team!!! 🙌 sam curran is literally a hero, i mean who else can get a hat-trick in international t20 cricket? 😍 and adil rashid & liam dawson were on fire with their spin skills, totally dominated sri lanka's batsmen. the atmosphere at pallekele must've been electric! 🌟 anyway, this win puts england in a great position to take the series lead and i'm hyped for sunday's match 🤩

OMG, thats sooo cool!!! 🤩 I'm literally hyped for england!!! Sam Curran is like, total boss! 😎 His hat-trick was insane!!! I mean who doesn't love a good 3 wickets in 1 over? 🙌 The way England's spinners took it apart from Sri Lanka was lit 🔥! Rashid and Dawson were on fire 💪. Now england is leading the series 1-0 which is sooo exciting 🎉. Can't wait for sunday match, gonna be epic 😈💥

🏏 England is definitely getting back to its T20 game, and Sam Curran is like a superhero out there 😎! I mean, who needs a hat-trick in the 16th over? That's just insane 🤯! The spinners were on fire, took those wickets quickly, and just dismantled Sri Lanka's batting line. And England's batsmen, Salt and Phil, they stepped up and gave them some support 💪. Now they gotta keep this momentum going for the rest of the series 🔜

omg what a performance by sam curran 🤯 he just took down sri lanka like that 3 wickets for 38 runs is insane! i'm so loving england's spin attack right now adil rashid and liam dawson are on fire 💥 they totally dominated sri lanka's innings. and salt and phil hitting that 49-run stand was the icing on the cake 🍰 england's momentum is building up, lets see if they can keep it going in the next match! 🏆

OMG, can you believe Curran just took that hat-trick? 🤯 I mean, what a way for him to make an impact on this series! He's been doing alright for himself in Surrey, but this is on another level. The way Rashid and Dawson tore through Sri Lanka's batting line-up was intense, but when the game slipped away from them, Curran stepped up and showed his true potential. And that 16th over? 🤯 What a finish! Can't wait to see what happens next Sunday 🌟

I'm loving this win for England, but I gotta say, Sri Lanka's batting lineup was pretty predictable 🤔. They just couldn't handle the spin attack 😏. Adil Rashid and Liam Dawson were on fire! 🚀 Their partnership was huge in getting Sri Lanka back into the game.

But, to be fair, England's batting wasn't too shabby either 👌. Salt and Phil's 49-run stand was a highlight of the innings, and Sam Curran's hat-trick was just incredible 💥. It's great to see him establishing himself as a key player for the team 🙌.

Still, I do wonder if Sri Lanka can mount a stronger fight in the next match 🔮. They've got some talented players, but they need to figure out how to deal with England's spinners 👊. Bring it on! 💪

🔥 Omg what a game! Sam Curran's hat-trick was insane 🤯, I've never seen anything like it! The way he came in and completely dismantled Sri Lanka's batting line-up must've been super intimidating for them 😬. And that England spin attack was on point 🔴🔵, taking those early wickets to put the pressure on Sri Lanka.

But you know what really stood out to me? Salt and Phil's 49-run stand 🤩, I mean, that was a highlight reel moment right there! The way they built that partnership and took England towards a decent total... it was just so satisfying to watch 😊. And let's be real, Curran's hat-trick was the icing on the cake 🎂 – what more can you ask for from a player?

Umm I don't get why everyone's going crazy for this Sam Curran guy... I mean, he got a hat-trick, yaaas, that's cool, but it's not like he's the only one playing his thing right now 🤔. The whole Sri Lanka team was getting absolutely thrashed by England's spinners anyway 💦. And 11 runs is hardly an impressive margin of victory if you ask me... I mean, what's next? Are they gonna celebrate a single-run win like it's the World Cup final? 🏆😂

omg i think sam curran's hat-trick was kinda overhyped 🤣, i mean, 11 runs is not that much to brag about. sri lanka got completely destroyed by england's spinners, it's like they were begging for wickets 🙄. and let's be real, sri lanka was never gonna win this one. but still, sam curran did look pretty cool out there 😎.

OMG you guys, i'm literally so hyped about sam curran's hat-trick!! 🤩💥 that was such an epic moment in the game! i love how england's spinners just took over & destroyed sri lanka's innings 😂. and can we talk about salt & phil's partnership? 💖 49 runs in like, what, 10 overs? 🔥 they were on fire!! and curran just wrapped up the whole thing with that hat-trick 🎩👏 i'm loving england's chances in this series so far 😁 fingers crossed for sunday's match too 💪

OMG, I'm so stoked for Sam Curran 🤩! That hat-trick was EPIC 🔥! He's like the T20 version of Yoda – always turning the game around with his spin magic 🕉️. The way England's spinners worked together is pure class 👏. And can we talk about how thrilling it was to watch Curran take over the attack? The tension in the air must've been palpable 😬. I'm literally hyped for their next match against Sri Lanka on Sunday 💥!

🙌 OMG, that hat-trick by Sam Curran was absolutely mind-blowing!!! 😲 The way he took out three wickets in just three balls is pure skill! 💥 I'm loving England's spin game right now, Adil Rashid and Liam Dawson are on fire 🔥! The way they bowled Sri Lanka's batsmen out was so clinical 🙌. And that 49-run stand by Salt and Phil at the end? Superb 👏. England's got this series in the bag and I'm hyped for the next match 💪🔴

OMG, this Sam Curran dude is insane!! 🤯 I mean, who takes a hat-trick in the last three balls of an over? That's just crazy! 😲 He was like a superhero on the field, saving England from getting thrashed by Sri Lanka. The way those spinners, Rashid and Dawson, took down Lanka's batsmen so quickly was amazing too 🤩. Now England is leading the series 1-0 and they're gonna try to keep that momentum going in the next match. Fingers crossed for them! 👍

Yooo, what a game!!! 🤩 Sam Curran absolutely smashed it out there, 3 wickets in the last 3 balls of the over? Mind blown! 😲 I'm loving how England's spinners are on fire right now, Adil and Liam were unhittable. The way they took those wickets in quick succession was like a masterclass. 🎯 And that stand between Salt and Phil was so crucial, it really got England back into the game. Now let's keep the momentum going and see them take this series all the way! 💪

😐 I'm not sure about this new trend of T20 cricket... it feels like just a bunch of short games strung together, you know? 🤔 I mean, I love the thrill of a hat-trick as much as the next guy, but is it really necessary to have such an aggressive approach all the time? Don't get me wrong, Sam Curran's skills are impressive and all, but can't we just enjoy the game for what it is - a fun, casual match between two teams? 🏟️ I'm worried that T20 cricket is becoming too intense, too fast-paced... losing the simple charm of the sport. 🤷‍♂️
