Sali Hughes on beauty: the best perfumes for winter

For winter, I'm trading in rich, ambery scents for something cold and invigorating - think frosty mornings on a mountain slope or a refreshing dip in an outdoor pool.

Tom Ford Soleil Neige (£69) is my top pick. This scent is inspired by snow, with crisp notes of vanilla musk that counteract the misery of thick clothing and sunburn. It's airy, sexy, and perfect for a skiing holiday, even if I'm not adventurous enough to actually go.

Another winner is Penhaligon's Juniper Sling (£85), which filters out the boozy whiff of Gordon's and tonic while retaining its bracing botanical punch. This scent is refined and wearable on a cold day, sitting comfortably over casual knits and jeans or in more formal settings.

For those who love the British landscape, Lyn Harris's Perfumer H Rain Wood (£190 for 100ml) is a must-try. Combining notes of angelica, juniper, sappy woods, and patchouli leaves gives it a rich, almost peaty base that's perfectly balanced - like a delicate watercolour of a rugged setting.

However, at over £190 for just 100ml, it's not an affordable option for everyone. Sunspel's Sea Moss (£80 for 50ml) is another beautiful scent with an elemental spirit, while Bibbi's Swimming Pool (£120/£105 for 30ml) is tremendous fun - instantaneously cooling and enlivening in cold weather, with a fizzy, herbal, mentholated scent that's like a refreshing splash on a hot day.

Last but not least, there's Maison Francis Kurkdjian's Aqua Media Cologne Forte (£115 for 35ml), which is flat-out freezing. With sparkling citrus notes and a gentle musk, it's more intimate than clippy - perfect for those who want to feel invigorated without feeling like they're wearing a perfume that's too loud.

So, whether you prefer something light and airy or rich and intense, there's a winter scent out there for everyone.

OMG, I am SO over the winter scents that are just straight-up cold 🥶❄️! Like, yeah, snowflakes and frosty mornings are lovely and all, but can't we have something a little more... complex? 😏 I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Tom Ford Soleil Neige - the vanilla musk is everything 💁‍♀️ - but sometimes I crave something with a bit more depth. Like, have you tried those new niche brands like Ormonde Jayne or Sasa? 🤩 They're giving me life with their unique blends of spices and florals! 🔥 And can we talk about how expensive some of these scents are? £190 for 100ml is just... *sigh* 😳 I'll stick to my affordable Sunspel's Sea Moss, thank you very much 🌊💖

I gotta say, I'm loving the cold vibes this winter! 🥶 I've been checking out all these perfumes and I think Tom Ford Soleil Neige is straight fire 💁‍♀️! The crisp notes of vanilla musk are everything when it comes to making you feel alive during the ski season. And I also love how refreshing Penhaligon's Juniper Sling smells - perfect for a cozy day in or out, whether you're dressing up or keeping it casual 😎. But honestly, I'm still deciding between Lyn Harris's Perfumer H Rain Wood and Bibbi's Swimming Pool... both are so unique and fabulous in their own ways! 💖

ugh, the scents are nice i guess but what about the prices lol 190 quid for that Lyn Harris one is straight up robbery! i mean i can understand it being special and all but come on 🤑. and another thing, why do perfumes have to be so small? like, sunspel's sea moss has only 50ml and its already 80 bucks... thats just not fair 😒. anyway, if you're into that whole winter vibe i guess the tom ford one sounds pretty cool ❄️

🥶 I'm loving the idea of switching up my scents for winter! There's something about colder weather that just makes me want to feel invigorated. 💨 I've been eyeing Tom Ford Soleil Neige - £69 isn't bad considering how gorgeous it sounds. 🤩 But honestly, have you tried Monoculus's latest release? It's this amazing icy scent with notes of lemon and rosemary that just makes me wanna hop on a plane to the mountains ASAP! ❄️

OMG u guys I just got back from the most epic ski trip with my bf 🏂❤️ and OMG I'm OBSESSED with this new Tom Ford Soleil Neige scent it's literally SOOO refreshing after a long day on the slopes! 😍 I know what ur thinkin "it's £69" but trust me it's worth it! I also tried Penhaligon's Juniper Sling & I LOVE how it makes u feel like ur at a fancy ski lodge without actually havin to wear a fancy outfit lol 💁‍♀️🏔️ My fave scent of the winter tho has got to be that new Lyn Harris Perfumer H Rain Wood though 🤩 it's so unique & perfect for when u wanna feel all rugged & outdoorsy 😎

Umm... £190 for 100ml is kinda steep imo 🤑 - think about how many of those would I need to get through winter? And don't even get me started on the price tag for that Lyn Harris one... 😩 but, i guess it's all about the niche perfumes and whatnot. Tom Ford Soleil Neige does sound pretty cool tho - like a breath of fresh air after that rich ambery stuff ❄️
