Rebecca Clarke review – composer of spirited chamber music and songs finally gets her due

🤩 I mean, come on! Rebecca Clarke's music has been hiding in plain sight for far too long! She was literally a trailblazer, one of the first female pros playing orchestral instruments back in the day. It's crazy she didn't get more recognition until now.

The recent Wigmore Hall concert was amazing, though. I loved how they mixed it up with her younger stuff alongside her 1920s masterpieces. And Ailish Tynan's vocals on "Three Irish Country Songs" gave me chills! Kitty Whately's take on "The Seal Man" was super haunting too... those arrangements for voice, piano, and viola were spot on.

Yeah, not every piece was perfect, but overall, Clarke's music really held up. She's got this timeless quality to her melodies that just speaks to you. It's a shame it took so long for us to appreciate her genius. 😊
