Radiohead play career-spanning set in first concert since 2018

Radiohead kicked off their highly anticipated European tour last night, playing a career-spanning setlist that drew from almost all nine of their studio albums. The band, who had gone seven years without performing together, played to a sold-out crowd at Madrid's Movistar Arena, and the energy was palpable.

The concert kicked off with Let Down from 1997's OK Computer, and quickly established that it wouldn't be a greatest hits set. While they did play some of their most well-known songs, such as Paranoid Android and Karma Police, the setlist was heavily weighted towards their more experimental work. This included tracks from 2003's Hail to the Thief, as well as several album tracks.

The band's decision not to tour for so long has injected a sense of urgency into their performances, with fans eager to see them live again after years of anticipation. The tour is a testament to Radiohead's enduring popularity and influence, even as they continue to push the boundaries of their sound.

For some fans, however, the band's lack of engagement on issues like Palestine has been a point of contention. In 2022, Jonny Greenwood sparked controversy with his decision not to perform in Israel, and last year he faced criticism for walking off stage during a solo gig after a pro-Palestinian heckler shouted a provocative question.

Despite this, many fans remain committed to the band's music, which has been a staple of alternative rock for decades. The tour is set to continue across Europe, with stops in Bologna, London, Copenhagen, and Berlin before concluding on December 12th.

I'm so hyped they're back on tour! 🀩 I've always loved Radiohead's music, but it's been ages since they've played live. They seem to have really found their groove again, playing all the old faves like Paranoid Android and Karma Police, but also some of that super experimental stuff from their newer albums.

I was a bit curious to see how long it'd take them to get back into their touring shoes, but I'm so glad they didn't do a greatest hits set. It's clear they're still feeling each other out, which is actually kinda refreshing? The energy in Madrid was supposed to be electric, and from what I've heard, it definitely delivered.

It's crazy how much anticipation there is around this tour – seven years is forever! I'm sure some fans might be a bit divided about the band not talking more about stuff like Palestine, but for me, their music speaks for itself.

πŸ€” I'm glad Radiohead finally decided to come back on tour πŸŽ‰, but man they really went all out with this experimental setlist... like okay guys we get it you're trying to shake things up but can't we just have a little bit of those old favorites too? πŸ™„ still super stoked to see them live again tho! πŸ’₯ the energy at their last show was electric ⚑️ and I'm loving how they're keeping it urgent with these long gap tours. it's like they're trying to make up for lost time πŸ•°οΈ can't wait to see how they finish out this leg of the tour in Berlin πŸ˜„

omg i'm so stoked they're back on tour 🀩!! i was literally dying waiting for them to come out w/ a new album lol! they played some of their old faves but also some super experimental stuff from their newer albums like kid a and amnesiac . it's clear they haven't lost any momentum whatsoever - the energy in that crowd was electric πŸ’₯. i'm also kinda surprised they didn't play more of thieving & amnesiac, those albums are my jamm 🎢. can't wait to see them live in bologna πŸ€—!

omg yaaas they killed it last night!! i was literally hyped out the whole time! they played so many deep tracks from their discography and it was clear that they were all super excited to be back on stage 🀩🎸 radiohead is still giving us life after all these years. their setlist was so well curated, it had a perfect mix of old and new. i loved how they included some lesser-known tracks too 🎡 can't wait for the rest of the tour, berlin is gonna be lit πŸ”₯

omg u think they're gonna play that much experimental stuff live? idk lol i mean i'm excited for them and all but last time they played in europe it was like they were trying too hard to fit everything into one setlist 🀯 anyone else feel like they're losing the connection with their fans over this whole politics thing? anyway, been waiting 7 yrs for new radhead content and im not mad about it πŸ˜‰ lets just see how long they can keep up the energy without burnout 🎸

🎸 I'm loving how Radiohead is giving their fans a masterclass in sonic evolution 🌊. After seven years of hiatus, it's amazing to see them dive headfirst into their discography, effortlessly navigating from OK Computer to Hail to the Thief and beyond πŸ”„. The crowd was electric, and that palpable energy speaks volumes about the band's enduring connection with their audience πŸ’₯.

The way Jonny Greenwood is pushing the boundaries of sound is truly inspiring – it's a testament to Radiohead's influence on contemporary music 🎢. While some fans might nitpick over certain choices (hello, Palestine controversy πŸ™„), at the end of the day, this tour is about one thing: the unbridled passion of their devoted fanbase ❀️. Bring on the next leg of the tour – I'm already counting down the days until Berlin! πŸ•°οΈ

just saw that radiohead finally back on stage 🎸! it's crazy how they can just pick up where they left off after a seven year hiatus, the energy was electric and it felt like they were feeding off the anticipation of their fans 😍. i'm loving the fact that they're playing some of their lesser known tracks too, it shows they're still experimental and pushing boundaries, which is what made them so influential in the first place 🀯.

but at the same time, it's a bit weird that the whole thing feels like a greatest hits set with only like 5 or 6 deep cuts 🎢. i mean, i get it, their fans want to hear some of their most iconic tracks, but can't they throw in some more surprises? still, overall it was an incredible show and i'm so stoked to see what the rest of the tour has in store πŸ˜ƒ.

omg i just got back from the most epic road trip πŸš—πŸ˜Ž and i'm still buzzing from it! drove thru the mountains, stopped at this crazy scenic spot and watched the sunset with my squad... it was like the whole world came alive πŸ”₯πŸŒ… then i realized we were out of snacks and had to improvise a picnic with what we had in the car 🍿🀣 anyway, back to radiohead - have you seen that video of thom yorke's voice cracking on some of their old songs? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ he's still got it!

just saw they played Let Down last night lol their energy must've been electric after that long hiatus! I'm low-key relieved it was more experimental tracks than your usual hits tho. it's like they're trying to shake off the 'greatest hits' label and prove they still have it πŸ’₯

Just saw Radiohead live! 🀯 They played all their old faves but also some weird stuff that just works πŸ’« Jonny Greenwood's guitar playing is insane 🎸 Still wish they'd speak out more on Palestine issues tho 🀝

🎸 just saw the most epic concert last night 🀩 radiohead totally brought it with their experimental vibes. no surprises they played more ok computer tracks than anything else, but who cares? its not like we haven't been hearing paranoid android for years anyway πŸ˜‚. what's crazy is how urgent the energy felt, like everyone was waiting 7 yrs to see them live again 🀯 and now its just another show on their tour. also, gotta give props to jonny's stand on palestine, even if it sparked some controversy πŸ’ͺ. all in all, radiohead still got it πŸ‘

omg i was so hyped when i heard they announced this tour!!! 🀩 radiohead live is always a wild ride! i loved how they played most of their experimental stuff, it was like they wanted to blow our minds again 😲 and yeah, the crowd was SO into it, i watched the vids online and ppl were going WILD πŸŽ‰

i gotta say tho, i've been reading some comments from fans who are still salty about jonny's stance on palestine... i get where they're coming from, but like, can't we just love the music 1st? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ it's been 7 yrs since they last toured and it's clear how much they've missed performing live so let's all just vibe out to the tunes πŸ’–

OMG u guys!! finally Radiohead is back 🀩🎸 and they're playing all their oldies... like who doesn't love a good Let Down πŸ˜‚? i mean, i'm not gonna lie, it's kinda cool that they're not doing a greatest hits set tho, but at the same time, can't we just have a little bit of everything πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ? like, what if they played some of those "controversial" tracks from 2003's Hail to the Thief and really stirred up some drama πŸ’β€β™€οΈ? idk, maybe i'm just reading too much into it... but seriously, Jonny Greenwood's solo gig was SO awkward 🀒, but hey, at least he stuck to his guns on Palestine πŸ™. either way, can't wait for this tour to come to my city!!!

omg they're killing it out there!!! 🀩 i'm beyond obsessed with their new sound, it's like they're speaking a whole new language but in the best way possible! 😍 i loved that they played some of their more experimental tracks, it showed how versatile and innovative they are. and can we talk about the energy in the crowd?!? the fans were SO hyped to see them live again after all these years and it's clear that Radiohead still has a strong connection with their audience πŸ™Œ the only thing i'm kinda curious about is what else they'll have up their sleeve for the rest of the tour! πŸ€”
