Palace pull off Liverpool hat-trick, plus the Premier League previewed: Football Weekly Extra – podcast

Liverpool suffered a third consecutive defeat to Crystal Palace, with their young and rotated squad struggling to cope with the task at hand. The question on everyone's mind is whether this setback in the Carabao Cup will have any impact on the Reds' long-term crisis. But for now, it remains a low priority as they look to bounce back from their latest defeat.

Across town, Crystal Palace earned themselves an unexpected trip to Arsenal with a convincing 4-2 win at Brighton's rivals Wolves. The Eagles took advantage of Chelsea's chaotic performance against the same team in their own league match on Friday night, where the Blues secured a hard-fought 4-3 victory. And for Newcastle, it was business as usual as they beat Tottenham by three goals to nil.

Chelsea manager Thomas Frank, meanwhile, finds himself at the helm of Spurs' title rivals after being appointed interim boss following Antonio Conte's departure. With Spurs struggling against Newcastle and Liverpool, Frank will need to get his team up for a high-stakes match against Chelsea at home in order to salvage any hope of mounting a serious challenge.

Looking across the pond, Scotland-based Football Weekly addressed pressing questions regarding Ewan Murray.

I don't think this third consecutive defeat is going to define Liverpool's season... yet 🤔. They've got some key players back from injury, and they're still in the running for a top-four spot. Crystal Palace was always a tough opponent, especially after their win against Wolves. I mean, who expected them to take down Chelsea's rivals? 😲

It's also interesting that Thomas Frank is taking on this Spurs job - will he be able to bring some stability and success to the team? And what about Ewan Murray... is he really worth the hype? 🤷‍♂️ I'm curious to see how the Scotland-based Football Weekly covers his story.

idk about liverpool's squad, seems like they're running outta steam... 3 losses in a row is somethin' nobody expected from them this season 😒. on the other hand, crystal palace just threw up a sick performance against wolves and got the result they needed to get into the cup tie with arsenal. that's some quality stuff right there! 🤩

What's going on with Jorgie Eustace tho 🤔? Crystal Palace needs someone like him ASAP 💯! The squad is all over the place right now. Like, what was the plan against Wolves again? Did they even watch the game? 🤷‍♂️ It seems like a bunch of players are just pretending to care about their own team's success...

can u believe liverpool is going through this slump? 🤯 they've got some young talent but i think their rotation policy is killing them atm. it's like they're not getting enough game time or something. anyway, crystal palace is looking good right now, who would've thought they'd take down wolves? 😂 and i'm loving the spurs news, thomas frank as interim boss, this could be interesting to watch... but what about ewan murray tho? 🤔
