'On a knife edge': can England's red squirrel population be saved?

๐Ÿฟ๏ธ The gov has been talkin about savin the red squirrels for ages now ๐Ÿคฏ, but I reckon they should just make it happen already โฐ. They got all these fancy vaccines and stuff, so why not use 'em? It's like, 3.4 million in 1876, now we're down to 287k ๐ŸŒŸ. That's some crazy decline. And what's with the contraceptive vaccines for greys? Sounds like a right old joke ๐Ÿคฃ. Seriously though, someone's gotta do somethin' 'bout it, or those little guys are toast ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’€.

I'm not sure if they're serious with this plan ๐Ÿค”. They're just gonna create more woodlands and hope for the best? It sounds like a bunch of empty promises ๐Ÿ™„. I mean, what's wrong with incentivizing landowners to take action already? Don't they need some kinda financial incentive to care about these squirrels? And what's up with this vaccine stuff? Can't just put it out there and expect greys to stop breeding right away ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ.

I'm not a wildlife expert, but I know that these plans have been kicking around for years. What makes now different? It feels like they're all talk and no action ๐Ÿ’ฌ. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of saving these squirrels, but someone needs to take some real responsibility here ๐Ÿ‘Š. We need concrete results not just empty statements ๐Ÿ“.

๐Ÿฟ๏ธ I'm literally freaking out about this news! Like, our red squirrels are basically on the brink of collapse ๐Ÿคฏ and we're just sitting here thinking 'oh no, what do we do' ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. But seriously, 38,900? That's like, super low ๐Ÿ“Š. And it's not just England, Scotland has like 75% of its red squirrels left too ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ. I remember when my grandma used to tell me about how beautiful they were when she was a kid ๐ŸŒณ. Now we're basically fighting for survival ๐Ÿคบโ€โ™€๏ธ. The government's plan is a good start, but like Marie Carter-Robb said, it needs more action ๐Ÿ’ช. We need those pine martens back in our woods ASAP ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ’ซ and some serious habitat preservation too ๐Ÿž๏ธ. Can we save them? ๐Ÿค” I'm really rooting for them!

The plan sounds good on paper but let's be real... ๐Ÿค” how many actual greys are gonna get contracepted? It's like they think we believe all this is just some fancy PR stunt ๐Ÿ˜’. And what about landowners who won't play ball? I mean, come on guys... can't you just give them some decent funding or incentives to help out? ๐Ÿค‘ This whole thing feels like a big ol' experiment and we're the guinea pigs ๐Ÿ‘€.

I think the gov't plan is way overkill ๐Ÿ™„ 28k ain't a lot of reds to save but we gotta try or else they'll just keep dyin' off ๐Ÿคฏ pine martens could be the real hero here imo, not some fancy vaccines or contraceptive stuff. We shouldnt be tryin to control greys either, it's just nature and if the reds cant compete then theyre not worth savin ๐Ÿ˜Š

omg can u believe its only 287k red squirrels left?? thats like almost gone ๐Ÿ˜ฑ the grey squirrels are just destroying them its like a crime scene out there ๐Ÿšจ i mean what's wrong with the gov not doing more to help these guys? they gotta step it up and take real action ๐Ÿ’ช not just some empty policy statements that dont do anything ๐Ÿค” i heard those fertility control vaccines are a thing now thats something worth exploring ๐Ÿค“ pine martens are like a silver lining in this whole thing ๐Ÿ’š lets hope its not too late for these little guys ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ
