"No one expecting any progress" in Ukraine from UAE talks

Russian and Ukrainian officials are set to meet in the United Arab Emirates today, following a rare high-level discussion between US negotiators and President Vladimir Putin in Moscow last week. The talks center around a US-drafted plan aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

However, it appears that little progress can be expected from these discussions, given Russia's insistence that Ukraine relinquish control over the Donetsk region of the Donbas. This demand has been met with firm resistance from Ukrainian officials, who have made it clear that they will not back down on this issue.

The fact that these talks are taking place at all is seen as a relatively positive development by some. It suggests that both sides are willing to engage in open communication and explore potential solutions to the crisis. Nevertheless, the fundamental differences between Russia's position and Ukraine's stance mean that finding common ground may prove to be an uphill task.

Umm yeah so I think its kinda cool that theres high level meetings going on between Russia and Ukraine but at the same time I dont see how we can expect anything concrete to come out of this deal, like Russia wants total control over the Donetsk region and Ukraine is all about preserving their sovereignty... it just feels like theyre talking past each other . Still, its a good start that they're even willing to sit down and chat maybe something will come of it? I'm kinda skeptical about these talks, you know? Like, both sides are saying all the right things, but at the end of the day, Russia's gonna want something from Ukraine and Ukraine's not gonna give it to 'em easily . Don't get me wrong, it's a good start that they're even talking, but I'm not sure how much concrete progress we can expect out of this. Ugh this is gonna end bad Russia's being super unreasonable about the Donbas thing... like come on Vlad, can't you see that Ukraine's not gonna let go of their own land? I'm not sure how much of a breakthrough these talks are gonna make. Russia's still being super tough on Ukraine about the Donbas region, and Ukraine is like "no way, that's ours". I'm keeping an eye on this situation . It's like, both sides want peace, but they can't seem to agree on what that looks like. I mean, Russia wants Ukraine to give up control of Donbas, which is a pretty big ask, and Ukraine is like, "no way, we're not gonna do that". can't believe these talks are happening already like, aren't we still trying to figure out how to fix our own problems back home? and now Russia and Ukraine are fighting over some random region in Donbas... it just feels like another piece of a much bigger puzzle that nobody really understands what's going to come out of these talks is anyone's guess tbh

just wondering if these talks are actually gonna lead anywhere or is it all just a bunch of smoke and mirrors ? i mean, both sides have been dug in so deep that i'm not sure how you can just magically find common ground after years of tension... don't get me wrong, it's great that they're trying to talk things through, but has the world gotten any wiser since the annexation? also, what's with the US draftin' a plan and expectin' everyone else to just sign off on it? is that how diplomacy works now?

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this whole Ukraine situation... I mean, can you imagine if our school was like that? Like, there's these two groups of students, each with their own opinion on what should happen, and it just won't budge. Anyway, back to the news - so Russia wants control over Donetsk region, but Ukraine is all "nope, not happening" . I guess the good thing is that they're talking now, which is a start, right? But, like, will we ever find a solution? It's kinda like trying to solve a math problem when you just can't agree on the formula...
