Manayunk's Newest Addition Brings the Dark Side to Book Lovers this Halloween
A spooktacular new bookstore is opening its doors in Manayunk, and it's not your typical literary haven. Thrillerdelphia, situated at 4203 Main St., is a dark and foreboding shop that promises to satisfy the cravings of horror and thriller enthusiasts. The exterior may not immediately scream 'thrillers', but step inside and you'll be immersed in an atmosphere that's anything but cozy.
Black walls, ceilings, and floors create a somber ambiance, with a freshly restained dark walnut flooring adding a touch of sophistication. It's the perfect setting for Tina Long and her husband Anthony to showcase their love for horror novels, alongside some more traditional thrillers. The couple behind Thrillerdelphia also owns Cupid's Bookshop in Grape St., where romance novels take center stage – but don't be fooled; they believe there's a significant overlap between the two genres.
Tina Long, who co-founded Thrillerdelphia with her husband, revealed that their decision to open a bookshop specializing in horror and thrillers came at the perfect time. "We've always wanted to expand into another really amazing niche, and I think it was a great time to do it around the season, spooky season," she said.
The soft opening on Halloween promises to be an eventful one, with weeks of creepy teasers on TikTok and Instagram hinting at what's in store. Readers can expect novels that blend the Longs' reading tastes, including works by Stephen King, R.L. Stine, and Jonathan Maberry for fans of classic horror, alongside psychological thrillers from authors like Freida McFadden, Alex North, and Riley Sager.
Thrillerdelphia boasts an outdoor reading area and plans to host author signings, book clubs, and possibly even AV club movie screenings in the space. Collaborative events with Lincoln Mill, a haunted house just two blocks away, are also on the horizon. To avoid burnout, Mondays will be reserved for "plotting", while Tuesdays through Thursdays and Fridays through Sundays will see the shop open from 2-8 pm.
Despite being very different spaces, Tina believes that there's an overlap between Thrillerdelphia and Cupid's Bookshop in terms of customer bases. As she quipped, "Sometimes you need a palate cleanser after all that smut." Whether it's romance or horror novels, there's something to satisfy every craving at this new Manayunk bookstore.
