NASA Holds Public Briefings Before SpaceX Crew-12 Mission to ISS
NASA officials and partners will hold two news conferences on January 30 to discuss the upcoming Crew-12 mission, which is set to launch a crew of astronauts and cosmonauts to the International Space Station.
The morning briefing at 11 am EST will focus on final preparations for the launch. The panel includes NASA's Ken Bowersox, SpaceX representative, and ESA's Andreas Mogensen, among others. This is an opportunity for media to ask questions about the mission's timeline, crew training, and what to expect during the launch.
Later that day at 1 pm EST, the crew members themselves will participate in a virtual news conference. The panel includes NASA astronauts Jessica Meir, Jack Hathaway, ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev.
For the first time on this mission, Meir will command the crew, while Hathaway will be piloting the spacecraft. This marks their respective debuts in space for the U.S. Navy commander and NASA pilot. Meir has previously spent over 200 days in space during Expedition 61/62, completing three all-woman spacewalks.
Adenot, who graduated from a prestigious engineering program at ISAE-SUPAERO in France, will be joining her first international space mission as part of the ESA astronaut corps.
Meanwhile, Fedyaev's experience as a test cosmonaut during SpaceX Crew-6 mission has given him valuable expertise for this mission. He is no stranger to long-duration spaceflight, having spent 186 days in orbit previously.
A copy of NASA's media accreditation policy can be accessed online and those interested in attending in person must contact the Johnson Space Center newsroom by January 29 at the latest. Media wishing to join remotely can also sign up for a phone call.
