Michael Carrick challenges Man Utd to prove themselves against Arsenal as Mikel Arteta warns of 'lethal' counters

Manchester United interim head coach Michael Carrick is confident that his side can take down league leaders Arsenal, who are riding a 22-year wait for a Premier League title. The Gunners, however, are wary of the counter-attacking threat posed by United.

Carrick, who has experience of taking on Arteta's Arsenal in 2021 while in caretaker charge, acknowledges that this will be a different challenge. "There's not much to take from that moving into this one," he said. "It's a whole new challenge, a whole new game, a whole new group of players."

The former United midfielder has taken a hands-on approach with his side as they prepare for the trip to the Emirates, where Arsenal have not lost a single game all season. Carrick is aware that Arteta's team will be tough opponents, but he is optimistic about his side's chances.

"We understand Arsenal are a good team," Carrick told Sky Sports. "They're a rounded team, to be honest. I think Mikel's done a really good job assembling a team that can do so many things well."

Carrick has praised the Gunners' ability to adapt and cause problems for their opponents. "You could see that in the Manchester derby," he said. "They have a lot of attributes to cause you problems. But as well, like every team, they have their weaknesses as well."

Arteta, meanwhile, is wary of United's counter-attacking threat having seen them punish Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in last weekend's Manchester derby. "You saw that a few days ago in Manchester," he said. "They have a lot of attributes to cause you problems. But as well, like every team, they have their weaknesses as well."

The Arsenal boss also expressed his respect for Carrick, who is known for his intelligence and control on the pitch. "One of my favourite No 6s," Arteta said. "Very intelligent, looked like he could never break sweat, he was so in control of the games."

As United look to cause an upset at the Emirates, Arteta is aware that this will be a crucial game for his team. "It's a challenge, we know that, but we can go there and we can face it head-on," Carrick said. "We've got good players and we're a good team as well, so we've just proved that."

The two managers will meet again in the punditry box on Super Sunday, but for now, they must focus on their respective teams' chances of success at Old Trafford.

😊 so i think man utd have a solid chance against arsenal, carrick's experience and approach are gonna pay off 🀞 and yeah i know arteta's team is super strong, but united's counter-attacking threat is pretty deadly πŸ’₯ if they can just get past the defense, i think their attack can cause some serious problems πŸ€”

I'm thinkin, United's gonna cause some problems for Arsenal πŸ˜…. They got Carrick at the helm and that guy's a master tactician. He knows how to nullify the opposition's strengths and expose theirs πŸ€”. And with Rashford and Fernandes leadin' the charge, they've got the firepower to take down anyone πŸ”₯.

Arteta's gotta be worried about United's counter-attacking threat, but at the same time, he knows his team's got some serious depth too πŸ‘. It's gonna be a tough one for both teams, but I think United might just get it done πŸ’ͺ. The momentum's on their side and they're feelin' confident after that last win πŸŽ‰.

man i think u guys r underestimating carrick and man utd theyve been playing some solid football lately and thats not just about counter attacking they also have a good squad depth i mean, their recent 2-0 win over tottenham wasnt just about one player making all the difference it was a team effort theyve got some talented youngsters like Rashford and Garnacho who r starting to make an impact

and arteta should be worried not just about carrick but also united's attacking midfielder range they dont have any real threats in midfield yet its only a matter of time before someone comes along and changes the game totally

Carrick's got some serious guts thinking he can take down the league leaders πŸ˜‚. I mean, 22 years without a title? That's a mountain to climb. He's been in this position before but it was Arteta's team last time around. Now, with their game plan and squad depth, Arsenal are looking almost unbeatable 🀯.

Carrick's right that every team has weaknesses, but for Arsenal, they've got it all clicking on offense and defense πŸ’ͺ. I'm not sure how much the counter-attacking threat from United will pay off at the Emirates, especially if Arteta adjusts his tactics mid-game πŸ”΄.

And yeah, Carrick is known for being one of the fittest midfielders in the history of the game πŸ‹οΈβ€β™‚οΈ, but even he can't single-handedly win a title. The odds are against United, but I love an underdog story πŸ’₯!

πŸ€” Man U's counter-attacking threat is real πŸš€! Carrick's team has been working on that, and it paid off in the last Manchester derby against City πŸ˜ƒ. I'm not sure if they can take down Arsenal, but it'll be a great test for both teams πŸ’ͺ. Arteta knows United's strengths and weaknesses, so this is gonna be an interesting match ⚽️. One thing's for sure, it's not going to be a 22-year wait without a fight πŸ˜…!

Man this Arsenal vs Manchester United thing got me thinking... like what's the real meaning of "taking down" a team? Is it just about winning or is it more than that? πŸ€”

You know Carrick and Arteta both been in the game for so long, they must have seen a lot of teams come and go. But I think this season is different... everyone's on edge because no one knows when the title will be won again. It's like we're all waiting for that one moment when everything clicks into place.

And what does it say about our society when 22 years is considered "a long time" to wait for a title? Is it just about individual success or is it about something more collective? Like what happens when the team doesn't succeed?

cant believe how shotty this game is gonna be lol πŸ”₯πŸ† carrick's got a legit shot tho, those gunners have been invincible but manchester united's counter attack game has been fire all season πŸ’£ i mean they smashed man city in that derby so arteta needs to step up his defense game 🀯 also gotta give credit to carrick for taking charge and showing he's not just a retired player 😎

πŸ€” I think it's gonna be a tough one for Man Utd against Arsenal 🚨 they're riding high on that 22-year title wait and have only lost once all season πŸ˜… Carrick is confident, but he knows the Gunners are a solid team with many strengths πŸ’ͺ Arteta seems to respect Carrick's tactics, but also acknowledges United's counter-attacking threat πŸ’₯ it'll be an interesting game at Old Trafford 🏟️ I'm loving the rivalry between these two teams 😈

πŸ€” I think this game is gonna be super interesting! Carrick's tactics might just give Arsenal a run for their money πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ. He's got to adapt his strategy to counter Arteta's well-oiled machine, but I reckon United have the potential to cause some chaos πŸ”₯. Their counter-attacking threat could be the key to unlocking Arsenal's defense πŸ’ͺ. Of course, Arteta's team is no pushover, they've been unbeaten all season for a reason πŸ™. This is gonna be a battle of wits between two experienced managers πŸ‘Š.

OMG, I think Manchester United is gonna pull off an epic upset against Arsenal 🀯πŸ”₯! Michael Carrick's got some solid game plans and I love how he's taking a hands-on approach to prepare his team for this massive match πŸ“πŸ’ͺ. Plus, they've got that counter-attacking threat which can totally catch Arteta's team off guard 😏.

And you know what? I think it's awesome how both managers are giving each other respect πŸ™ŒπŸ‘Š. It shows that they're not just focused on winning, but also on the beautiful game itself 🎨. The atmosphere at Old Trafford is gonna be electric πŸ”‹ and I'm totally rooting for United to take down those Gunners πŸ’₯!

man, cant believe carrick is gonna take down arsenal lol what's next? he thinks he can take em down with his fancy passing and all that πŸ˜‚ anyway, i think arteta's right to be worried about united's counter-attacking threat, they're a force to be reckoned with. but at the same time, i think carrick has a point that arsenal have their weaknesses too... its gonna be a crazy game 🀯
