Metro Detroit’s Café Cortina marks 50th anniversary with special events - Detroit Metro Times

Café Cortina Celebrates Half a Century with Special Events and Reunion

Rina and Adriano Tonon's Italian restaurant in Farmington Hills, Café Cortina, is marking an incredible milestone: its 50th anniversary. Launched in 1976 on a former apple orchard site, the eatery has continued to thrive, thanks to the vision of its founders.

To commemorate this half-century mark, Café Cortina is planning a series of special events that promise to delight foodies and history buffs alike. The "Founders Dinner Series" kicks off on March 16 with an evening called "La Notte Di Famiglia," featuring an original 1976 menu recreated by the restaurant's chefs, accompanied by wine pairings from Vittorio Veneto, a region in Italy that holds a special place in the Tonon family's heritage.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage in family storytelling with Rina Tonon and other special guests, including the world premiere of the documentary "The Garden That Fed Detroit." This poignant film explores Café Cortina's role as a gathering place for the community over the years.

Beyond these foundation events, Café Cortina has more festivities planned. The "Founders Dinner Series" will continue on June 29 and November 2, with additional activities that include a collaborative dinner with guest chefs, a black-tie gala, and possibly other surprises.

Throughout the year, Café Cortina will also participate in the Summer Garden Festival in Traverse City from September 17 to 19, showcasing its commitment to celebrating local culture and traditions. More information about these events can be found at cafecortina.com.

By honoring its rich history and tradition of community building, Café Cortina is ensuring that this milestone anniversary marks just the beginning of a new chapter for this beloved institution in Metro Detroit.

50? That's crazy! I mean, some places just don't age well, you know? Like, have you ever seen anyone still rocking a 70s decor? 🤣 I'm not saying it's bad, but... I dunno, maybe they're just really committed to the whole "retro vibe" thing.

And another thing, a black-tie gala? In Farmington Hills? What's next, a royal coronation? 😂 Just kidding! But seriously, I think these events sound kinda cool, especially that documentary about Café Cortina's role in the community. It's nice to see places still care about their history and all that.

But let's be real, some of this stuff might just be a fad. Like, how long will people actually show up for those "Founders Dinner Series" events? 🤔 And what's with all the wine pairings? Is that really going to make a difference in anyone's life? Just saying...

50 yrs old & still sippin' on that good ol' Italian coffee ☕👏 Love how they're bringin' back that 70s vibe with retro menu & wine pairings! And a doc about the garden that fed the community? Mind blown 🤯

50 years in the making! 🙌 It's mind-blowing to think about how much Café Cortina has evolved over the decades while still staying true to its roots. The way they're celebrating with special events and reunions is really cool, especially the "Founders Dinner Series" - it's like a trip down memory lane for foodies and history buffs alike! 🍝📚 The documentary "The Garden That Fed Detroit" sounds super interesting too... it's amazing how one place can be such a hub for community. I'm definitely gonna check out their Summer Garden Festival in Traverse City, sounds like a lot of fun! ☀️

Ugh, another old place trying to cash in on nostalgia 🤦‍♂️... I mean, 50 years is a big deal and all, but do they really need to have so many events? It's gonna be hard to get tickets for the Founders Dinner Series, and I'm not sure how much of it will even make sense to people who weren't around back then 🤔. And another thing, can we please just have a decent online menu instead of relying on some fancy wine pairings? 🍷 I want to order something and actually see what's in it, not rely on some fancy-schmancy presentation 😂.
