'Like lipstick on a fabulous gorilla': the Barbican's many gaudy glow-ups and the one to top them all

omg I'm low-key excited for this 🤩 The Barbican needs a major refresh but it's cool that they're going for a more thoughtful approach this time around. I mean, who wants to just slap some new stickers on an old gorilla and call it a day? 😂 A "fabric first" overhaul sounds like the perfect way to breathe new life into this iconic building. The combination of modern sustainability practices and nods to its original brutalist charm will be SO interesting to see. Fingers crossed that they can balance progress with preservation, though – we don't want the Barbican's unique character to get lost in the shuffle 🤞

🤔 the barbican needs an intervention stat 🚨 it's been left to crumble for far too long and its iconic status is at risk of being overshadowed by newer, flashier developments. the proposed 20-storey towers on silk street are a major concern - will they really fit with the building's brutalist charm or just become another soulless skyscraper? 🤷‍♀️

It's not about being better or worse, it's just about being different 🤔.

The truth is that there is no water tight solution for this complex issue, but the willingness to acknowledge the problems and make a change is what matters 💡.

It's all about finding that balance between progress and preservation, a delicate dance of 'making good' without losing sight of what made it special in the first place 💕.

can you imagine walking into the barbican right now & seeing all this gaudy glow-up stuff 🤯? i mean, it's like putting lipstick on a fabulous gorilla - its still gonna be a beast but with a fresh new 'do 😂. but seriously, has london ever taken into account how its iconic buildings age? the barbican's been through so much over the years & yet here we are, trying to fix the cracks while adding more... well, cracks 🤷‍♀️. silk street towers sound like a total game-changer tho - either gonna be a masterstroke or a total eyesore 🤔 gotta respect the twentieth century society's stance on preserving the barbican's integrity 💯
