Iran's foreign minister says talks with US were ' a very good start' but are 'over for now' – as it happened

Iran's foreign minister says talks with US 'a very good start', but are 'over for now'.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi has stated that indirect negotiations between Iranian and US officials have been a "very good start" but are set to pause indefinitely. The Oman-mediated talks, which began on Friday, were centered solely on Tehran's nuclear program.

Aragchi made the comments in an interview with Iranian state media, where he said both sides had agreed to proceed with negotiations. However, he emphasized that officials must now speak directly with their leaders before any progress can be made.

The talks have come as a welcome relief after weeks of escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran. US warships and aircraft have amassed near Iranian coastal waters, prompting warnings from Trump that "bad things" could happen if a deal is not reached.

Iran has insisted on keeping the negotiations focused solely on its nuclear program. Iran's right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes was deemed non-negotiable by Aragchi. In exchange, Iran demanded sanctions be lifted.

Araghi also warned of potential repercussions if talks were to fail.

💡 so i think this is a great example of how things gotta come to a head before they can start moving forward 🔄. like, we can't just jump into negotiations without talking it out with the big cheeses first 🤝. and honestly, it's about time someone brought these tensions to the table because weeks of escalating tensions is like, totally unacceptable 😒. but at the same time, i get why iran wants to focus on their nuclear program 🚨 - they gotta feel safe right? 💕. maybe this pause can actually give everyone some space to think about what's really going on and figure out a solution that works for both sides 👀.

😊 so like, i'm not surprised they're pausing the talks or whatever... both sides are gonna need some serious convincing before anything concrete happens 🤔. i mean, we've seen this dance go on for years, and it's only a matter of time before tensions flare up again 🔥. but i guess it's better than all-out war, right? ⚖️ gotta respect aragchi for keeping the talks centered around Iran's nuke program - that's definitely a non-negotiable 🚫. still curious to see what happens next... will we get any actual progress or just more hot air? 🤷‍♂️

I think it's kinda cool that Iran and the US are trying to talk things out, but I get why they're feeling a bit frustrated about this whole nuclear program thing 🤔🚨. It seems like both sides need to just chill for a sec and have an honest chat with their leaders before they can even think about making any progress 💬. If Iran's right to enrich uranium is non-negotiable, then maybe the US should be more open to listening? And on the flip side, if sanctions are really that important to Iran, it might make sense for them to consider giving up enrichment 🤷‍♂️. But at least we have Oman to help mediate all this 🙏... and I hope these talks can actually lead somewhere 👍.

Just heard about those Oman talks with US and I gotta say, I'm keeping my fingers crossed they can actually make some progress 🤞. The thought of war is literally terrifying, we don't need that kinda stress in our lives. Iran's got a right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes, imo. It's all about finding a balance between their needs and the US' concerns. If these talks fail, it's gonna be a dark time 🌑💔.

OMG 🤯 I'm so relieved these talks are happening! It feels like ages since Trump was all like "bad things" gonna happen 😱. I remember when he said that back in 2018, it was like the world was holding its breath. Anyway, I think Iran's stance on nuclear enrichment is fair play 🤝. They need to feel safe too, right? And yeah, lifting sanctions would be a huge win for them. Fingers crossed these talks don't go down the drain 🚮!

I think it's kinda weird that they're having these indirect talks and then suddenly pause 'em. Can't you just have a straight conversation about something? 🤔 I mean, sure, the nuclear program is a big deal, but can't we talk about other stuff too? It feels like Iran's being super strict on what they want to discuss.

I'm also curious about why it had to be Oman who mediated these talks. Did they have some kinda special relationship with both sides or something? 🤷‍♂️ And what exactly does it mean when Aragchi says that if the talks fail, there'll be "potential repercussions"? Is Iran threatening us or is this just some diplomatic jargon? 😕

Can't believe these guys are doing it all again 🤦‍♂️. Remember when we had Clinton and Nixon talking 'til the cows came home? It was always about those nuclear deals... what's good is that the Oman folks stepped in as mediators, but come on, this feels like Groundhog Day 😒. Iran's being super firm about their enrichment rights, which I get, they wanna keep their options open 🤔. And the US is all like ' sanctions lift, dude!' 🚫💸... just hope it doesn't all go up in smoke again 💥.

so they're saying they've had a good start with these talks but now they're just gonna pause them? seems kinda weird that they'd make so much progress only to shut it down... what's the real deal here? 🤔 want more info on what exactly was discussed and what Iran's getting out of this deal. can't just take someone's word for it without seeing the facts.

🤦‍♂️💁‍♀️ Iran and US talkin' again... like clockwork 🕰️ but who's gonna make the first move 💪? 🤔💬

Iran wants nukes, USA don't wanna mess w/ them 🚫💣... but both know it's not a good look 😳

I don’t usually comment but I think it’s weird that Iran is being super strict about keeping the talks focused on nuclear stuff 🤔. Like, can't we have a broader conversation about the region and other issues? It feels like they're only looking out for their own interests right now. And what's with all these sanctions? Don’t get me wrong, I think Iran should be able to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes, but is that really the biggest thing to negotiate about? 🤷‍♂️

I mean, I guess it's a good start that something's happening instead of just more tension and war threats 😅. But if we're gonna talk about negotiations, shouldn't we be looking at ways to actually improve people's lives over there? Not just focus on some pretty specific issues like nuclear programs 🌎.

Anyway, only time will tell what happens next 🕰️. Fingers crossed it all works out and we get some real progress 🤞

🚨 so the Oman talks are basically paused indefinitely 🤔... i mean its not like anyone's expecting anything concrete to come out of it anyway 😐. Iran's being super strict about the nuclear program and demanding sanctions be lifted, but at the same time saying they can't negotiate other issues 🤷‍♂️. i guess thats a pretty fair stance considering how tense things have been between US and Iran lately 💥. its good that Aragchi is keeping the lines of communication open tho 👍... now we just gotta wait and see if anyone's willing to pick up where these talks left off 🕰️.

I'm so done with these indirect talks 🤯. Can't we just have real conversations like normal people? I mean, I get that politics and diplomacy can be complex, but it feels like we're always playing catch-up or hiding behind intermediaries. And now Aragchi's saying they're on pause indefinitely because officials need to speak directly with their leaders... yeah, that sounds about right 🙄. It's all very convenient when Iran wants more concessions without having to commit to anything concrete, but at the end of the day, what's the point of having talks if we're just going to shut them down again? 😒 Can't we have some real progress for once? 💔

I'm not holding my breath lol... think they're just playing a game here. These Oman-mediated talks might seem like a good start, but let's wait and see what actually happens. One minute they say yes, the next minute it's all off again 🤔. Iran's been saying one thing (lifting sanctions), while the US is all about keeping those 'bad things' at bay near Iranian waters... this is just too suspicious for me 💁‍♂️. And what's with Aragchi's warning of repercussions? Sounds like a bunch of hot air to me 🚽. This whole thing feels like a game of cat and mouse, where one wrong move could lead to disaster... fingers crossed no one gets hurt 😬.

just when you think things are gonna get crazy between the US and Iran lol 🤯... but i guess it's a good thing they're talking 🗣️? i mean, it's all about the nuke program now 🔬. gotta say, aragchi sounds like a pro at this diplomatic thing 💼. lifting sanctions is key, right? 🤑 can't have iran feeling left out in the cold ❄️. also, good that officials are gonna speak directly to their leaders instead of just going back and forth 📞... no more games, maybe? 😊

I don’t usually comment but I gotta say this whole US-Iran thing is like a big reset button 🔄. It's been weeks of super tense vibes and now we got these Oman-mediated talks happening, which is actually kinda cool 😎. I mean, who doesn't love the idea of world leaders sitting down to chat about sensitive stuff?

But for real though, Iran’s got some serious bargaining chips here. They're not going to budge on enriching uranium for peaceful purposes 💪. And let's be real, sanctions have gotta go 🚫. I don’t think it's too much to ask from the US side that they consider lifting those sanctions.

It's also super interesting that both sides agreed to talk directly with their leaders before making any progress 📣. It's like they're trying to set a good precedent here. Fingers crossed these talks actually lead to something 🤞

I think this is a classic example of "all's fair in love and war" 😏. Both sides are playing hardball here, with the US threatening to "bad things" happen if they don't get their way, while Iran is standing firm on its nuclear program. It's like they're trying to out-maneuver each other at a game of chess 🤯.

I mean, can you blame them? The US has been making some serious overtures about wanting to "contain" Iran's nuclear ambitions, but I'm not sure that's exactly the right approach. Isn't it better to engage in diplomatic talks and find common ground? It feels like they're trying to dictate terms rather than work together as equals 👊.

And what's with all these talk of sanctions being lifted? That sounds like a whole bunch of bureaucratic mumbo-jumbo 📝. I mean, are they just trying to butter up Iran so it agrees to their demands? Or is this really about finding a mutually beneficial solution? 🤔

🤔 So like I'm thinking the US and Iran having these indirect talks is a big deal? I mean, they've been at odds for ages over Iran's nuclear program. It's good that they're making progress but it's not like they're gonna magically fix everything. Abbas Aragchi's right that officials need to speak directly with their leaders now or nothing changes. 📊 But seriously, this is a huge relief after all the tension and saber-rattling between the two sides. Fingers crossed they can keep the talks going and get some sanctions lifted! 💡

I'm kinda surprised they agreed on talks in the first place 🤔. I mean, it's been a while since tensions between US and Iran got this bad. So, now we're basically back at square one? 🔄 Still got no deal, just more promises to talk later... How long can these indirect talks really last? They've gotta have some real face-to-face conversations happening soon if they wanna make any progress 👥. And yeah, I'm all for Iran keeping the nuclear thing on the table - it's a legit concern for everyone involved 🚨. Sanctions off in exchange for, what exactly? More 'guarantees' from the US that they won't attack or invade? 💸 It's like they're playing a game of chicken with each other...

omg I'm so relieved that these US-Iran talks have started 🙏, especially after all the drama that's been going on lately... like what even is a 'good start' for Iran? 💡 means they gotta keep pushing for those sanctions to be lifted, you feel? 💸 and can't just sit back down at the table if they don't get some concessions 🤔... Aragchi saying officials have to talk directly with their leaders now makes sense tho, like who wants all that back-and-forth drama?! 😩
