Hobart International: Emma Raducanu loses to Taylah Preston in quarter-finals

Emma Raducanu's Australian Open preparations took a hit as she was handed a surprise quarter-final defeat by Taylah Preston at the Hobart International. The British number one, who is seeded first at the event - her last before the Grand Slam begins on Sunday - fell to Australia's unseeded 204-ranked opponent in a 6-2 6-4 result.

Raducanu was particularly inconsistent on serve, committing four double faults and holding in only three of nine service games. The world number 11 also struggled to find her rhythm, with Preston dominating the rallies and taking advantage of Raducanu's mistakes.

The loss will be a significant setback for Raducanu, who has not reached a final since her US Open victory last year. Her season has been hampered by a foot problem and she showed signs of rust in an early-round exit against Maria Sakkari before bouncing back to beat Camila Osorio in the first round.

Raducanu will now arrive in Melbourne on the back of just three competitive matches, and faces a daunting task ahead if she is to get her season back on track. She has drawn Thailand's Mananchaya Sawangkaew for her next match, with a potential third-round showdown against world number one Aryna Sabalenka looming.

The result also raises questions about Raducanu's preparation for the Australian Open, which takes place in just a week's time. Her coach, Francisco Roig, was seen urging her to "let it rip" and "don't be static" during the match, suggesting that he is aware of the need for improvement.

Despite the setback, Raducanu remains one of the top contenders for the women's singles title in Melbourne, and she will be determined to put this result behind her and get back on track as quickly as possible.

πŸ€” still got a few weeks before Aussie Open... think about all the things that can go wrong πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ Raducanu's been dealing with injuries & rust in previous matches... now she's gotta shake off this loss too πŸ”„ not gonna lie, feels like it's already getting late for her season 😬

Ugh, what's going on with Emma Raducanu? πŸ€” She was supposed to be all set for the Australian Open and now she's been thrown off her game plan 😬. I mean, who loses to a 204-ranked player in the quarter-finals? It's not like she didn't have enough time to prep, only three competitive matches before the Grand Slam πŸ•°οΈ.

And what's with that coach of hers, Francisco Roig? He seems to be playing matchmaker instead of being strategic 😏. "Let it rip" and "don't be static"? Sounds like he's trying to distract her from the real issues at hand πŸ’‘.

This whole thing smells like a setup to me 🀝. Maybe someone wants Raducanu to underperform so they can gain an advantage? I don't know, but I'm keeping an eye on this one πŸ‘€. Can't trust anyone anymore πŸ˜’.

omg u guys i was watching the tennis match with my friends and we were all like "what is wrong emma??!" 🀯 i think she was really nervous and couldn't get her serve going lol and taylah preston played so well! anyway, did u know that there's a big tennis tournament in melbourne next week? i'm trying to figure out how to get tickets tho... i mean, it's gonna be so cool to see emma play again 🎾

Ugh, can't believe Emma Raducanu is out of Hobart International already πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ. She was supposed to be a strong contender for the Australian Open, but now she's got some serious work to do πŸ’ͺ. I mean, 204-ranked Taylah Preston beating her? That's just crazy talk 😱. And Raducanu's coach is right, she does need to shake off that rust and get into her game πŸ”„. But still, can't help but feel like she's not ready for the big stage yet ⏰. Maybe she'll turn it around in Melbourne, but I'm gonna keep my expectations low 😐.

You know what's weird about the Australian Open? They have those weird rules where players can only change their shoes twice during the whole tournament πŸ€”. Like, what's the deal with that? Are they trying to prevent people from getting too comfortable or something? And don't even get me started on the grass courts – I mean, who thought it was a good idea to put tennis on grass again? It's like they're trying to recreate the good old days of Wimbledon... but you know what's not coming back? People's sanity 🀣.

omg I'm literally cringin thinkin bout Emma Raducanu... like what's goin on with her? 😩 she had that perfect shot at Australia Open but then boom! gets destroyed by some random aussie girl πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ and now she's gotta regroup in like, a week πŸ•°οΈ I feel for her, she's been dealin w/ foot problems and rust from her last match... poor thing πŸ€— can't wait to see how she bounces back tho πŸ’ͺ

Omg did u see Emma Rads' Aus Open prep just got totally derailed πŸ€―πŸ’” She was supposed 2 b seeded 1 but got thrashed by that 204-ranked Aussie girl Taylah Preston πŸ˜‚ what's goin on?! Rads looked so rusty out there, like she'd been sittin 4 a while... four double faults? 😱 not good at all πŸ‘Ž. Hope she gets her game back 2 b 'cause she's still got a shot @ the title πŸ†

πŸ˜¬πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ that was a big upset! 🀯 Emma Raducanu was so hyped up for the Australian Open and now this... πŸ˜” it's like she had a mental block or something πŸ’ anyway, she'll bounce back 🌈 and come stronger from this loss πŸ”₯ her coach is right πŸ‘ "let it rip" and don't be static πŸ’ͺ fingers crossed for her in Melbourne 🀞

😐 I'm shocked by Emma Raducanu's loss at Hobart International, especially with how well-prepared she was supposed to be. Like, you'd think that a seeded player would have a pretty easy time in the quarter-finals, right? πŸ€” But I guess even the best players can have off days and get caught out by opponents who aren't expected to do much. πŸ‘

It's also kinda worrying that she's been struggling with her foot problem and now this loss might set her back even further. Like, you don't want your biggest match of the season to be against someone who you're not at your best for πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ.

But still, I think Raducanu will bounce back from this and do fine at the Australian Open. She's a top player, after all! πŸ’ͺπŸ”₯

πŸ˜¬πŸ€• Oh man, Emma Raducanu is having a rough week! πŸŒͺ️ I was hyped to see her crush it at the Australian Open, but now I'm not so sure πŸ’”. Four double faults? That's like a tennis player's worst nightmare 😱. And she looked really out of sync on serve, which is huge for anyone playing singles.

I think the pressure to perform must be getting to her, especially with the Aussie Open just around the corner πŸ•°οΈ. Three competitive matches in a row isn't exactly a warm-up 🀣. But you know what? She's still one of the top contenders πŸ”₯, and I got no doubt she'll bounce back stronger than ever πŸ’ͺ! Francisco Roig should be proud of her coach skills πŸ‘. Let's see how she does in Melbourne! πŸŽΎπŸ‘€

omg I was really rooting for emma raducanu πŸ€•πŸ‘Ž i mean, she has been doing so well last year and everyone thought she was a shoo-in for the Australian Open title... but i guess you can't take anything for granted πŸ˜… this loss is defo going to give her some serious doubts about her game... what's up with that serve of hers tho? 🀯 4 double faults in one match? that's crazy! and what's with her coach trying to get her out there more? maybe that's the problem lol anyway, still hoping she gets it together for the grand slam 🀞

Ugh, I'm so frustrated with Emma Raducanu right now πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ! She was supposed to be one of the top players at the Australian Open, but now she's in a really tough spot after that loss. I feel bad for her, because she's been dealing with a foot problem all season and it looks like it's still giving her issues πŸ’‰. And to make matters worse, she lost to someone who's seeded 204 in the world? πŸ€” That's just not what you want to see before a big tournament. I hope she can get her game back on track and show everyone what she's capable of... maybe with some extra practice or something? πŸ’ͺ

I mean, can you blame Emma Raducanu for being a little rusty after only playing three competitive matches? I'd be rusty too if I was about to take on the best of the best in tennis. πŸ˜‚ And Taylah Preston, huh? Who's that? Sounds like she's ready to take over the world... or at least Melbourne! 🌟 The foot problem is no joke though, hope Emma's back to her best soon. And coaches are always trying to motivate, but "let it rip" might be a bit harsh if you ask me. πŸ˜…

I feel bad for Emma Raducanu πŸ€•, she's been working so hard with her coach Francisco Roig to get ready for the Australian Open 🎾, and then this happens πŸ™„. I mean, it's not like she's a total beginner or anything, she's number 11 in the world 🀯! Taylah Preston might be unseeded, but that doesn't necessarily make her a better player πŸ˜’.

Raducanu's foot problem has been a big issue for her all season, and I'm sure it's frustrating for her to have to deal with that on top of everything else πŸ€•. She needs to take this loss as an opportunity to learn from her mistakes and work on her game πŸ’ͺ. It's not over yet for her in the tournament, she'll bounce back 🌟!

I'm so bummed out about Emma Raducanu's loss πŸ€•πŸ’” She was looking pretty strong heading into the Aussie Open and now it's like she's got a big ol' target on her back 🎯. I mean, I get it, quarter-finals are tough anywhere, but Hobart is usually a bit of a warm-up for the bigger tournaments... and that unseeded opponent Taylah Preston was totally on fire πŸ”₯! Raducanu's gonna have to regroup and refocus, 'cause she can't afford to let one bad match get her all shook up πŸ’ͺ. Still think she's got what it takes to take down Sabalenka though 😎

omg, like, dont wanna see emma rads losing like that πŸ€• but at least shes still a contender for the title, right? πŸ˜… so yeah, maybe its a blessing in disguise she got knocked out of her prep match, now shes super focused on getting back on track πŸ”„ and who knows, maybe this set back will make her play even better πŸ’ͺ🏽 btw, taylah preston is like whoa, seeded 204 but still managed to take down emma rads 😲 so yeah, theres definitely room for improvement on both sides πŸ‘

😐 I mean, Emma Raducanu's loss is a bit of a bummer, but I guess it's not like she was expected to win that tournament anyway πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. Three competitive matches in a row isn't much prep for the Aussie Open, and now she's gotta deal with Sabalenka πŸ™ˆ. She'll need to get her head back in the game ASAP, or risk getting taken down by one of those top players 😬. At least she still has that 1-2 punch of a draw πŸ‘...

Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it 😊. It seems like Emma Raducanu has some work cut out for her ahead of the Australian Open, but she's definitely not one to give up easily!
