HFD investigating cause of church fire near the North Freeway, searching for person of interest

A massive fire engulfed a church in north Houston on Monday afternoon, prompting an emergency response from the Houston Fire Department (HFD). More than 100 firefighters battled the blaze, which broke out at a church located near the North Freeway and W. Parker Road.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, but investigators believe it may be related to arson. HFD Senior Capt. Raul Reyes confirmed that no one was inside the building when the fire started, although multiple buildings on the property were damaged in the inferno.

Church officials stated that the building had been purchased by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) just months ago, with plans to demolish it as part of a freeway expansion project. However, TxDOT maintained that no homeless individuals had breached the property, contradicting concerns raised about the potential risks posed by the abandoned church.

The HFD is working to determine the cause and origin of the fire, with arson investigators searching for a person of interest in connection with the incident. As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information about the blaze to come forward.

omg that's so sad ๐Ÿค• i remember when my aunt used to go to this church near our neighborhood and it was always filled with ppl on weekends... now it just looks like a charred skeleton of its former self ๐Ÿ˜ฑ anyhoo, i think it's weird that txdot was planning to demolish the place just cuz they were gonna expand the freeway ๐Ÿšง does that sound like a good reason 2 get rid of a church in the first place? idk maybe i'm just being too sensitive about this... but it kinda feels like they're trying 2 cover something up ๐Ÿ”

omg what's going on in houston?! i cant believe a church is on fire ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ˜ฑ like how did it even start?? and whats up with the texas department of transport saying no homeless people were there when clearly someone was just using it as shelter, that's super sketchy ๐Ÿ˜’. and now they're saying arson? like, what if its connected to their freeway expansion plans?! that would be so suspicious ๐Ÿค‘. i feel bad for the church and all the stuff thats been damaged but i'm also kinda curious to see how this whole thing unfolds...

Just heard about this crazy church fire in Houston ๐Ÿคฏ and I'm literally shaking my head... like what even is going on? I mean, no one was inside but still over 100 firefighters had to deal with it? That's wild ๐Ÿš’. And the fact that there are allegations of arson and some homeless folks being pushed out of their homes nearby... that's just not right ๐Ÿ˜”. I guess they're saying TxDOT didn't have anything to do with it, but honestly, it feels like a lot of people are just trying to sweep this under the rug ๐Ÿคซ. Whoever did this needs to own up and make amends, you know?

man, have you seen that new episode of 'the office' on Netflix? I'm still trying to figure out who's supposed to be the regional manager... anyway, back to this church fire in Houston... I wonder if they're gonna rebuild or just tear it down like they said about that abandoned church. and speaking of abandoned places, have you been to any of those weird museums downtown where they have old taxidermy exhibits? that stuff is crazy ๐Ÿคช

OMG what's going on in Houston?! ๐Ÿคฏ I just saw that on the news like 20 mins ago... I don't get why they had to tear down a church tho... I mean I know it was for a freeway expansion project but can't they just, like, renovate or something? ๐Ÿค” And now there's a fire and multiple buildings are damaged... what if someone got hurt?! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Like, I know the investigators think it might be arson but shouldn't they find out who did it ASAP so everyone knows what happened? ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ This is all so crazy...

๐Ÿ˜” this is so sad... a beautiful building just gone up in flames ๐Ÿค• can't believe it was even an abandoned church to begin with... i feel bad for all the people who may have lost their homes or belongings due to that freeway expansion project ๐Ÿ’ธ๐Ÿšง and what's really weird is that there were concerns about homeless ppl living there but apparently TxDOT said no one breached the property ๐Ÿค”? anyone know if they're gonna rebuild it or just leave the site empty? hoping the investigation finds out who did this and brings them to justice ๐Ÿ’ช

man this church fire in houston was wild ๐Ÿคฏ 100 firefighters battling the flames for hours... i mean what even is going on here? so it's like the texas department of transportation bought the building months ago and now there's a huge fire just weeks later? seems fishy to me... like they're trying to get rid of some evidence or something ๐Ÿ˜’

and you know how this sounds like a movie plot - abandoned church, arson investigation, etc. i'm all for it but seriously though what happened here? did someone intentionally set the building on fire? and why would they do that? ๐Ÿค”

omg ๐Ÿคฏ just saw this on twitter and i'm SHOOK!!! can't believe a church went up in flames like that it's so sad for all those people who were affected by it especially the homeless folks who might've been living there idk what's going on but arson investigators need to get to the bottom of this ASAP ๐Ÿ’ก they gotta catch whoever did this and make sure justice is served ๐Ÿ™

Ugh man, this is so concerning ๐Ÿคฏ! A church catching on fire, especially when there's talk of it being torn down? It's not just the physical building that's at risk, but what happens to all those people who might have called that place home? The fact that TxDOT was supposed to demolish it months ago and now they're denying any homeless folks were inside... it feels like a cover-up ๐Ÿšซ. I hope whoever is behind this fires steps forward and explains themselves because this feels too suspicious ๐Ÿ˜’. It's not just about the property damage, it's about accountability and making sure we're looking out for each other ๐Ÿ’•.

๐Ÿค” I'm kinda sad that this fire happened at an abandoned church, but like, let's not jump to conclusions, right? Maybe it's actually a good thing that TxDOT had plans to demolish it, 'cause think of all the potential squatters who might have been living there... it's just one less eyesore on the highway ๐Ÿš—. And yeah, I know some people are worried about arson, but let's not forget that TxDOT is in the know about the whole situation, so maybe they can help figure out what happened? ๐Ÿค“

๐Ÿ˜” it's just so sad when these things happen its like someone loses control and sets fire to somethin that coulda been saved... dont know what happened here but hope whoever is lookin for info can find the truth and justice gets served ๐Ÿคž

๐Ÿš’๐Ÿค” I'm not buying this story about the church fire... I mean, what's the hurry to demolish that building? It's gotta be more than just coincidence that it happened just months after TxDOT took over. ๐Ÿค‘ And what about all those 'concerns' about homeless folks living in the church? Sounds like they were just trying to spin this as a necessary evil for their freeway expansion plans. ๐Ÿ’ธ I'm not saying arson is off the table, but let's not jump to conclusions just yet. There's gotta be more to this story than meets the eye... ๐Ÿค”

Ugh, just great ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ another building burning down... I mean, what's up with all these fires lately? It's like something's gotta give (or burn). You'd think that if they were gonna tear it down, they'd do it properly and not leave a ticking time bomb. And now multiple buildings are damaged? This is just asking for trouble ๐Ÿคฏ. And don't even get me started on the homeless people... of course they're always a mystery, right? I mean, who wants to get caught up in all that drama? The fact that TxDOT says no one was inside when it happened is just a bunch of malarkey ๐Ÿ™„. They'll find someone, and it's gonna be a sad day for whoever gets blamed. And what about the church itself? Wasn't that supposed to be some kind of sanctuary or whatever? Now it's just ashes...

Omg this is so sad ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿš’, a church on fire is just so tragic ๐Ÿ˜”, I can only imagine how scary it must've been for those firefighters rushing into that inferno ๐Ÿ”ฅ. And what's up with the Texas Department of Transportation taking over the church? Didn't they know about all the homeless people living there? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ  it's like they just left them out to dry... literally ๐Ÿ’จ.

OMG what a crazy situation ๐Ÿคฏ!! I just saw this on Twitter and my heart is racing thinking about all those firefighters risking their lives to put out that fire ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ’ฆ! I hope everyone involved gets help and support, especially those people who lost homes or stuff in the blaze ๐Ÿ˜”. I don't know what's going on with TxDOT and the church deal but it sounds super sketchy ๐Ÿค”. I mean, shouldn't they have been keeping an eye out for something like this? The Texas Department of Transportation is already getting so much flak on Twitter, hope they come clean about what happened ๐Ÿ’ธ.

I'm not sure if the fire was really arson or just some weird accident but you can never be too safe when it comes to fires ๐Ÿ”ฅ. I feel so bad for all those people who lost stuff and maybe even homes in that church ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. If anyone knows anything, they should totally DM @HFDHouston on Twitter and let them know ๐Ÿ’ฌ. Let's hope the investigation is a breeze and we find out what happened soon ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ!

man that's so sad, like what even happens to these churches they just get burned down, it's not right... ๐Ÿค• i feel bad for all the people who might've been praying or hangin out there, hope everyone's safe, 100 firefighters is a lot, musta taken them hours to put out the flames. don't know what's more messed up, the fact that some dude might've done this on purpose or that ppl were worried about homeless folks takin over the place, like come on, we gotta think about the people who really need help, not just demolish a building... ๐Ÿ’”

OMG u guyz, this church fire is SO suspicious ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ˜ฌ. Like, what's up with TxDOT buying the building just months ago and now it's ON FIRE ๐Ÿคฏ? And they're all like "no homeless ppl breached the property" but like, isn't that kinda convenient for them? ๐Ÿ™„ They gotta know someone had access to the building before it went up in flames. And now they're sayin arson investigators are lookin into it, but I'm thinkin somethin fishy is goin on here ๐ŸŸ. Can't believe this fire happened when TxDOT was plannin on rippin down that church anyway ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. This whole thing just don't add up ๐Ÿ˜’

ugh, another beautiful example of how 'progress' can be just a euphemism for 'we're gonna tear down whatever's inconvenient'. I mean, who needs historical landmarks or community hubs when you've got more space for cars and freeways? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ the fact that it was abandoned in the first place is kinda suspicious, don't you think? ๐Ÿค” and those TxDOT people are just peachy about claiming they didn't know anyone was living there... like, come on. ๐Ÿ˜’

Wow ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Fire at church in Houston was crazy! I mean, it's one thing when there's a small fire, but this whole building went up in flames? That's so intense... ๐Ÿคฏ Was really glad no one got hurt, though. And what's with the church being owned by TxDOT for months and them not knowing about all the homeless people living there? Just seems like a whole mess of bad luck... ๐Ÿ’” Guess the firefighters are doing their thing to figure out what happened. Fingers crossed they catch whoever did it! ๐Ÿ‘ฎ
