Harrison Bader signs with Giants, cementing Phillies' outfield plan

Bader's Giants Deal Leaves Phillies' Outfield Plan in Shambles

The Philadelphia Phillies have lost one of their prized offseason signings, with outfielder Harrison Bader agreeing to a two-year contract with the San Francisco Giants worth $20.5 million, potentially increasing to $21 million with incentives.

Just last summer, Bader was instrumental in helping the Phillies make a push down the stretch of the regular season, slashing .305/.361/.463 in 50 games and becoming a spark plug that the lineup needed. However, he also brought an injury-plagued postseason run, limited by a groin issue in the NLDS against the Dodgers.

The Phillies had been exploring ways to revamp their outfield, with top prospect Justin Crawford poised to take on the starting center-field job next spring. The team also plans to have free-agent signing Adolis García occupy right field, while Brandon Marsh will remain as the left fielder for now.

While Bader was seen as a potential longer-term fit in Philadelphia, it appears his time with the Phillies is behind him. His decision to join the Giants means that any hopes of reuniting with the team were extinguished, leaving the Phillies' outfield plan to be rewritten once again.

the phillies just can't seem to get their outfield situation right, you know? i mean, bader was a great addition last year but now he's off to sf and it's like they're starting from scratch all over again. gotta feel for philly fans who were hoping to build around that dude. and now they're gonna have to figure out what to do with justin crawford... seems like they're gonna be looking at some younger players to fill those spots 🤔

ugh, I guess it's not surprising anymore when big-name players just jump ship 💸👋. Bader was always a bit injury-prone, but still managed to have some decent seasons...I mean, who doesn't love a good underdog story? 🤔 Anyway, now the Phillies are stuck with another rebuilding year, great. Top prospect Justin Crawford is gonna be their savior again, right? 💪 I swear, it's like they're trying to recreate the magic of last season or something... maybe they should just stick to drafting and hope for the best? 🤷‍♂️

omg what a bummer for philly fans 🤕🎟️ #PhilliesNation is gonna miss harrison bader tho! he was like a spark plug in the lineup, bringing energy and clutch hits. but u know how it goes... teams gotta make moves and this one just didn't work out. 20.5 mil for 2 yrs isn't bad tho 😎🤑 #GiantsWin #BaderToSanFran

ugh i cant even believe baders gone 🤕!! i was low-key thinking he was gonna be the real deal in philly and now hes just GONE 🔥 to sf giants without so much as a goodbye 🚫 its like they just swooped him up and left us hanging... i mean i know injuries have been an issue for bader but still can we not get that guy for more than 2 years? 🤦‍♂️ the phils are gonna be stuck with marsh in lf again and García in rf, ugh how am i s'posed to watch baseball now 😩

Another offseason meltdown for Philly... Like, I get it, they thought Bader was a game-changer, but injury-prone? Not exactly the kind of risk you want to take on. Now they're scrambling to rebuild their outfield plans... again 🤦‍♂️. I mean, Justin Crawford's gonna be a stud, and García's got some pop, so maybe this ain't the end of the world? But still, gotta wonder if they were just trying to make a splash and overpayed for it 💸. Guess we'll see how it all plays out...

ugh i'm so disappointed in the phillies! bader was literally the spark we needed and now he's gone. i knew it wouldn't be easy to keep him but did they have to let him go without even giving him a 3 year deal?! 💔👎 the giants are gonna be so lucky to have him 🙌. meanwhile the phillies are left with a whole lot of nothing in right field... adolis garcia is just not the same as bader 😐. i'm really gonna miss watching him play at Citizens Bank Park 💚

man... i'm not surprised he went to SF 🤷‍♂️ bader's been all over the place last season with injuries... it was only a matter of time before another team snatched him up 💸 20.5 mil is a pretty sweet deal for the giants, too 😎 anyway, it just means the phillies gotta regroup again 🔄 gotta feel bad for the young guys like crawford who were counting on bader to help lead the outfield... maybe this is an opportunity for them to step up and shine 🔥

omg u guys think this is just about bader and the giants right? like no way... think about it... the phillies had already got adolis garcia and brandon marsh lined up for the outfield, but now they gotta start all over... what's going on with that top prospect justin crawford? was he in talks with another team? sounds fishy to me

Just read this and I'm like what's up with Philly? They're always trying to fix their outfield but it seems like they just can't catch a break 🤯. Bader was such an important player last year but now he's off to the Giants for double the cash 😅. It's not surprising though, injuries have been a major issue in Philly. The Giants are definitely getting a solid player and I think they'll be tough to beat this season 💪. Crawford is gonna step up big time next spring, fingers crossed! 🤞

Ugh man, I'm so sad for the Phillies 🤕. They had a shot at making some real noise in the playoffs last year and now they're left scrambling for outfielders 🌪️. Harrison Bader was like the sparkplug they needed, but I guess his injury history just became too much to handle 💔. Now they've got a whole new outfield plan that's gotta be rewritten... again 😬. I mean, can't they just catch a break for once? 🤞

OMG, this news is like, totally bummer for the Phillies! 🤕 I mean, Bader was super key in their push last summer and now he's off to San Francisco? 😱 That's like losing a crucial piece of your squad 💔. Justin Crawford and Adolis García are gonna have to step up big time next season 🤯... but can they really replicate the magic that Bader brought? 🤔 The Phillies outfield plan is literally getting rewritten again 📝, it's so frustrating! 😩 I guess this is just one of those tough breaks for them 💔.

I'm so bummed about this... I mean, I think Harrison Bader was supposed to be a huge upgrade for the Phillies, but now he's gonna play for the Giants instead 🤔. I still don't get why they signed Adolis García though, wasn't that just a bunch of cash? And what about Crawford? He's always been super promising, maybe this is his shot at the big leagues 💪. Ugh, it looks like the Phillies' outfield is gonna be all over the place again 😩.

🤔 The Giants just made one heck of a move signing Bader... I'm so disappointed for Philly fans, they gotta scramble now to rebuild their outfield 😬. Bader's impact was real last season and I guess he needed a fresh start. 20.5 mil over two years is a decent deal for him too 💸. The Phillies need to find another spark plug ASAP or it'll be tough to compete in the NL East 🏆

Ugh, this is so sad 🤕! I mean, Bader was like a spark plug for the Phillies last summer and everyone loved him... but did he have to go and hurt himself in the playoffs? 😔 And now he's off to the Giants, which just seems like the ultimate letdown. I get that teams need to make moves, but it feels like they're always losing out on guys who were gonna be their stars for years to come 🤦‍♂️. The Phillies' outfield plan was all about Crawford and García, but now it's all back to square one... which is super frustrating 😩.

🤔 "The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams." 🌅 But for the Phillies, it looks like their big adventure is coming to an end... not in a good way 😬

🤔 The Philly Phillies just got robbed outta a big one here... I mean, who needs 2 yrs/$20.5 mil when you can get a sparkplug like Bader on the cheap? 🤑 They were gonna build their OF around Crawford & García, but now it's back to square one. Maybe they shoulda held out for a bigger offer... or maybe it was always a pipe dream. 💥 I'm still not sold on their chances this year.

I'm so bummed for the Phillies fans 🤕! Losing Bader was a huge blow, especially after he had such an amazing second half last year. I know they thought they could lock him down long-term, but it looks like he decided to chase more dollars with the Giants 💸. Now they have to go back to the drawing board and figure out who's gonna fill that outfield spot. Justin Crawford is definitely a hot prospect, but can he live up to expectations? And what's going on with Adolis García in right field? The Phillies' outfield plan just got way more complicated 🤯...

omg whatttt 😱 i cant believe bader is gone from philly 🤕 he was literally our spark plug last season and now hes just chillin with the giants like wat? 🤑 $20.5 million is a lot but cmon phillies u shoulda signed him 2 yrs ago lol 💸 anywaaay i think we gotta go w/ crawford n garcia now 🤞 lets hope they can fill the void bader left behind 🌟
