California Governor Gavin Newsom was denied entry to speak with the media at a US venue at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, after White House and State Department pressure.
The move came as Newsom continued his high-profile presence at the forum, where he criticized European leaders for their response to President Donald Trump's policies and the administration's efforts concerning Greenland.
Newsom's press office said the US venue denied him entry "under pressure from the White House and State Department," according to a post on X from his team.
The governor's comments on Tuesday in Davos included: “It’s time to buck up. It’s time to get serious. And stop being complicit. It’s time to stand tall and firm, have a backbone.”
CJ Pearson, National Co-Chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) Youth Advisory Council, also commented on X, saying "Hating from outside the club because he can't get in LMAO."
The US House had previously decided not to accommodate Newsom's participation in a Fortune conversation at USA House.
Newsom has been a vocal critic of Trump's policies, including immigration, federal funding, and foreign policy. The tension between Newsom and the Trump administration continues to escalate.
