Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles review – remastered 1997 classic is even more politically resonant now

The 1997 classic Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles has been reimagined in a newly remastered version that's more relevant than ever. At its core, the game tells a complex tale of rebellion and revolution set against a backdrop of medieval politics, where idealistic nobleman Ramza navigates a treacherous landscape of monarchists, peasants, and power-hungry elites.

The narrative is surprisingly mature and resonant, particularly in today's climate. The story's themes of class struggle, inequality, and the erosion of political rights echo the struggles we face now, with the rise of fascism and the growing wealth gap making it a timely commentary on our current world.

One can argue that Final Fantasy Tactics is more compelling than its peer, Final Fantasy VII, which dealt with environmental issues. The new remastering does justice to Shakespearean dialogue, with hammy performances that add to the game's poetic and tragic tone.

Combat in this tactical RPG is a masterclass in strategy, with each character class offering a high degree of customization and flexibility. Battlefields are meticulously designed to immerse players in a symphony of chess-like encounters, with an emphasis on fluidity and adaptability.

However, what sets Final Fantasy Tactics apart is its narrative rigidity – the story is less flexible and accommodating to player whims than other RPGs. Instead, it plows forward with historical certainty, illustrating the chaos and trauma that can result from a maelstrom of events. The game does not shy away from exploring complex moral principles and themes.

In an era marked by rising tensions and protests, Final Fantasy Tactics feels more urgent than ever. Ramza's unwavering commitment to justice serves as a powerful model for resistance, highlighting the challenges faced by those who dare challenge entrenched power structures.

The reimagined version of this classic game offers a timeless and thought-provoking experience that's sure to captivate fans of tactical RPGs and anyone interested in exploring mature narratives.

I'm so down for this Final Fantasy Tactics remake 🤩! The themes of class struggle, inequality, and resistance are more relevant now than ever, you feel? It's crazy how a game from 1997 could still be speaking to us today. I love that it's not shying away from exploring complex moral principles and the consequences of power. Ramza is literally my spirit animal 💪 - his commitment to justice is so inspiring! The combat system looks insane too 🔄 - I need to get my hands on this ASAP!

I don't usually comment but... I'm loving the fact that they're remastering Final Fantasy Tactics. The original was so underrated, it's crazy how well it holds up today. I think the themes of class struggle and inequality are really resonating with me right now 🤯. It's wild to see how Shakespearean dialogue can be taken out of context like that - totally fitting for a game set in medieval politics! The combat is super engaging, love how you have to think strategically about each battle... it's not just about button-mashing 😅. And yeah, the narrative rigidity actually works in its favor, makes the story feel even more grounded and impactful. It's giving me some serious thoughts on resistance and power structures 🤔. Anyone else feeling this rush of nostalgia but also a newfound appreciation for the game? 👀

I just played through the new remastered version of Final Fantasy Tactics and I gotta say, it's like they really got something right 😊. The story is so deep and relatable, especially with all the drama going on in the world right now 🤯. It's crazy how this game from 97 was already tackling themes that still plague us today - class struggle, inequality, and power struggles... it's like they were predicting some of the chaos we're seeing! 👀

And don't even get me started on the combat system, it's like a masterclass in strategy 🤓. I love how you can customize your characters to fit any playstyle you want. It's so immersive and engaging, especially when you're deep in the thick of battle 💥.

But what really sets this game apart is its narrative rigidity - it's like they were saying "we've got a message to convey and we're not going to let anything get in the way" 🗣️. It's actually kind of refreshing, you know? No filler or distractions, just pure storytelling that'll keep you on the edge of your seat.

Anyway, I think this new remastering is a must-play for anyone who loves tactical RPGs or just wants to experience some thought-provoking gaming 😊👍

I'm lovin' the way they're bringin' back this 90s gem with an updated remaster 🙌. The themes of rebellion, class struggle, and power imbalance are more relevant now than ever 🤯. I think it's dope that they're holdin' up a mirror to our current world, highlightin' the issues we're facin' today like fascists and income inequality 👊.

The combat system is still one of the best in any RPG, period 🔥. But what really gets me is how the game's narrative holds you down, makin' it feel more like a cinematic experience than just a player-driven story 📽️. It's like, Ramza's struggle is real, and we're right there with him, feelin' the weight of his commitment to justice 💪.

It's also worth notin', Final Fantasy Tactics is way more mature than some other RPGs from back in the day 👀. It tackles complex moral issues and themes that are still relevant today 🤔. I think this reimagined version is goin' to be a wild ride, especially for fans of tactical RPGs and anyone lookin' for somethin' with substance 💥.

OMG 🤯 I'm so down for a good old-fashioned tactical RPG! Like, the story of Final Fantasy Tactics is SOOOO relevant right now... all these issues with class struggle and inequality and stuff are major problems we're still dealing with today. And the way they handled it in this game? Mind. Blown. 😲 The combat mechanics sound like a total dream come true - I mean, who doesn't love getting their strategy on? 🤔 But what really gets me is how much depth the narrative has... it's not just some watered-down RPG story. It's actually got substance. 💥 And can we talk about Ramza for a sec? He's like the ultimate hero... I mean, who wouldn't want to stand up against all that power and corruption? 🙌

omg I just got my hands on this Final Fantasy Tactics remaster 🤩 and I'm literally obsessed with the story! its like, so complex and deep, you know? I dont think im gonna be able to finish it without crying 😭. and the combat is insane too! i mean, who knew chess could be so epic? 🎲 but what really got me thinking is how relevant this game is now. I mean, we're living in a world where ppl are fighting for their rights and stuff, and its crazy to see how similar things are between then and now 🤯.

idk if its true but sounds like final fantasy tactics is actually way more deep than people think 🤔 i mean, rebellion and revolution? class struggle? fascist rise? thats some heavy stuff for a game that came out in 97 🤑 but seriously, i've played it before and it did feel kinda... mature? maybe thats the point though - its like, they wanted to make a game that was relevant even back then 💭
