Eight current and former Toronto police arrested in organized crime inquiry

At least eight current and former Toronto police officers are facing serious allegations that their corruption is having far-reaching consequences for the city's largest municipal police service.

A comprehensive investigation by the authorities has revealed widespread corruption, with some officers accused of accepting bribes, aiding in drug trafficking, leaking personal information to criminals, and even helping members of organized crime carry out violent attacks. The most shocking incident was an attempt to murder a corrections officer at a Toronto jail, which prompted the start of Project South, a complex investigation involving over 400 officers from across the region.

According to police, some officers were involved in a sophisticated drug-trafficking operation, while others helped suspects evade arrest and stole personal property from police facilities. In one shocking incident, three armed men broke into the home of the corrections officer and rammed a police car parked outside, while other officers allegedly provided "protection" to suspects.

The investigation also revealed that some officers were involved in leaking personal information to criminals, which ultimately led to serious harm in the community. The authorities claim that no corner of society is immune from organized crime's reach, but when it penetrates the police service, the consequences are devastating.

Chief Myron Demkiw described the allegations as "deeply disappointing" and urged those charged to answer for their actions in court. He also acknowledged that the case against the officers was "of an incredible magnitude" and had never been seen before in his time leading the Toronto police.

The police union has maintained a silence on the matter, but officials are vowing to revisit cases worked by the accused officers to determine if their involvement affected the outcome of investigations. Meanwhile, four officers have already been suspended without pay as the investigation continues to unravel the extent of corruption within the Toronto police service.

omg this is soooo disturbing ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ˜ฑ can u even imagine a police officer trying to kill someone in jail? it's like they're above the law and that's so not cool at all ๐Ÿ˜’ how could people trust them anymore? i feel bad for the corrections officer who had to deal with this and the victims of the drug trafficking too ๐Ÿค• my heart goes out to the community that's been affected by this corruption ๐Ÿ‘Š

Ugh, this is getting worse and worse... just got the update on the Toronto police scandal ๐Ÿค•. Eight cops involved in corruption, including bribes, drug trafficking, leaking info to criminals... it's like a never-ending nightmare! ๐Ÿ’” Did you know that there was even an attempt to murder a corrections officer? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Like, what kind of messed up thing is that?! The investigation just keeps getting deeper and more disturbing. Four cops suspended already, but I'm sure there are many more involved. And the union isn't speaking out, which is just great... ๐Ÿ™„ Can you even imagine what's being hidden? This whole thing is a huge fail for the Toronto police department, in my opinion... ๐Ÿ˜

Man, this is crazy! ๐Ÿคฏ I'm not surprised though, corruption's a thing everywhere. I mean, we've all seen it in movies and TV shows. But for it to happen in an organization like the police? That's just devastating. ๐Ÿ˜” Can you imagine having someone on your own team who's working against you? It's like, how do you even trust anyone anymore?

And the fact that these officers were involved in some serious stuff like murder attempts and leaking personal info... that's just wild. ๐Ÿคฏ I'm so glad that officials are taking this seriously and not letting the police union silence them. We need to hold people accountable for their actions, especially when it comes to public service.

The city of Toronto is already dealing with a lot, what with the COVID-19 pandemic and all the social issues... they don't need corruption on top of that. ๐Ÿค• This investigation better be thorough so we can get to the bottom of this. Four officers suspended without pay is a good start, but I'd want to see more action taken. ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿค• this is so messed up i mean, who expects that from someone they look up to you know? like, how does it even happen? some people get caught doing shady stuff and everyone else just looks the other way or gets in on it too... ๐Ÿš”๐Ÿ’ธ i feel bad for the corrections officer who almost got murdered ๐Ÿคฏ and the community that's been affected by this stuff... ๐ŸŒ† at least 4 officers are suspended without pay, but i guess that's not enough considering all the damage done ๐Ÿ’ผ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ hope the others get caught soon

Y'know, it's pretty shocking that some of these cops are involved in all this shady stuff ๐Ÿคฏ. I mean, you'd think that people who are supposed to be protecting and serving the community would have better judgment ๐Ÿ’ก. It's just not right when corruption like this is allowed to happen within a police force ๐Ÿšซ. And what's even more disturbing is that some of these officers were involved in helping organized crime carry out violent attacks, which puts innocent people at risk ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. The fact that they're still employed by the police department and only got suspended without pay for now feels like a slap on the wrist ๐Ÿ‘Ž.

Ugh, I'm really shaken by this news ๐Ÿค•... I mean, a corruption scandal that goes all the way up to the top of the police force is just mind-blowing. I grew up in Toronto and always looked up to the cops as honest, hardworking people. But now it seems like some of these officers are doing more harm than good, which is honestly terrifying ๐Ÿ˜ฑ.

I remember when my cousin was arrested for a minor offense and had to deal with some shady cops who were all too eager to help him "forget" his troubles... it's not just the corruption that's the problem, it's the fact that there are people out there who don't care about justice or fairness. It's like they're above the law or something ๐Ÿ˜’.

I do hope those charged get a good slap on the wrist in court and the rest of them get fired ASAP ๐Ÿšซ. This is a dark day for Toronto, no doubt about it...

๐Ÿ˜ฑ This is just heartbreaking - our children are growing up with corrupt officers on the force who are more worried about getting paid off than keeping us safe ๐Ÿค•. I mean, how hard can it be to do a simple background check or verify someone's info? It's like they're thinking they're above the law ๐Ÿ™„. And to think some of these officers were even helping suspects evade arrest... what kind of message does that send to our kids about justice and fairness? ๐Ÿ˜ก I just hope the ones who are still on the job get their act together ASAP, for the sake of everyone's safety ๐Ÿš”๐Ÿ’ฏ

This is totally crazy ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ’ฅ, I'm talking about a full-blown scandal at the Toronto police department! Corruption is everywhere and it's like they're getting away with murder (literally) ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. I mean, who needs bribes and drug trafficking when you can just get ahead in life? But seriously, this is a huge deal for Canada's largest city and I'm sure it's going to take some serious time to clean up the mess ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ. I'm all about accountability and justice, so I hope these officers get what's coming to them - the law needs to be followed #JusticeForToronto #PoliceReformNow #NoToCorruption

Ugh ๐Ÿ˜ฉ this is getting outta hand... I mean, 8 cops already suspended and more in trouble ๐Ÿคฏ like what's gonna stop it? They're just swapping corrupt cop for corrupt politician thing ๐Ÿค‘๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ can't believe how far corruption has gone down in the system already. And that corrections officer who got threatened? Poor dude ๐Ÿ˜“ and now his home was broken into? Unbelievable ๐Ÿ’”

๐Ÿ™„ This is just what I needed to brighten up my day - a whole bunch of corrupt cops in Toronto ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Eight current and former officers, all the way up to helping out some bad folks with violent attacks... who would've thought? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ It's not like this was happening behind closed doors or anything ๐Ÿ”’.

And let's be real, how do you even cover this kind of stuff up for that long without someone blowing the whistle? ๐Ÿค” I mean, four officers suspended already, but I'm sure there are plenty more fish in the sea... or should I say, plenty more cops on the payroll ๐Ÿ’ธ. The police union being silent is just a nice way of saying "we're all in this together" ๐Ÿ‘ซ.

It's not like this is a surprise, though - corruption has been rife in Toronto's police department for years ๐Ÿšจ. It's only surprising it finally got exposed and someone decided to do something about it ๐Ÿ˜Š. Good luck with that investigation, Toronto... you'll probably need it ๐Ÿ”!

OMG, this is like a total nightmare scenario ๐Ÿคฏ! Did you see those stats on organized crime in Canada? Like, 14% of Canadians know someone affected by it, and 70% of law enforcement agencies are under investigation for some form of corruption ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. And the worst part is, these officers were supposed to be protecting us ๐Ÿš”. Like, I'm not saying all cops are corrupt, but this is just a huge red flag ๐Ÿšจ. The fact that four officers have already been suspended without pay is a good start, but we need more action taken ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ. And what about the innocent people who got hurt because of these corrupt officers? We need to make sure justice is served ๐Ÿ’ฏ. I'm also low-key impressed by Chief Demkiw for being so transparent about the situation ๐Ÿ™. Anyway, let's keep an eye on this and see how it all plays out ๐Ÿ”.

Ugh, can you believe this is still happening in 2025? I mean, I know some corrupt cops are gonna try to do whatever they want, but come on, eight officers?! That's just insane ๐Ÿคฏ. And a sophisticated drug-trafficking operation with the police involved? No thanks! You'd think that's like treason or something.

And what really gets my blood boiling is those officers helping suspects evade arrest and stealing from police facilities. Like, don't they know it's not their job to be crooked?! The fact that a corrections officer had his home broken into and a car rammed and the officers just sat there doing nothing? That's just despicable ๐Ÿšซ.

And I know some people might say the police union is being quiet, but let's be real, they're probably just trying to protect their own. And now four officers are suspended without pay? That's a start, I guess. But we need more serious consequences for these corrupt cops. They're not above the law! ๐Ÿ’ช

OMG, this is just so messed up ๐Ÿคฏ!!! Like, how can some ppl be so corrupt and put innocent lives at risk? The fact that they were involved in a drug-trafficking operation and helped suspects evade arrest is just shocking ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. And leaking personal info to criminals is like, super serious stuff too ๐Ÿ’”. I'm all for the cops getting held accountable for their actions, but it's also sad that some officers are staying silent ๐Ÿค. Four already suspended without pay? That's a good start, though ๐Ÿ‘. The community deserves justice and transparency on this one ๐Ÿ’ฏ.

๐Ÿค• this is soooo disturbing... I mean, how can some people betray trust like that? a lot of people rely on law enforcement for protection and justice, and it feels like these officers are just screwing everything up ๐Ÿšซ. and the fact that they're involved in organized crime stuff too... it's like, come on guys, you gotta do better than this ๐Ÿ™„. I'm all for accountability and making sure everyone plays by the rules, but this is just heartbreaking ๐Ÿ˜”. what kind of message does this send to the community?

This is a total disaster ๐Ÿคฏ, can't believe our cops are capable of this kind of betrayal. I mean, think about it, they're supposed to be protecting us, not working with the very people they're supposed to arrest! It's like a real-life episode of "The Sopranos" but unfortunately it's all too real ๐Ÿ’”. We need to take a hard look at how our police force is structured and make sure this kind of thing can't happen again. I'm not buying the whole "just a few bad apples" excuse, this is systemic corruption we're talking about ๐Ÿ“Š. And what really gets me is that some of these cops were helping out organized crime, which means innocent people are getting hurt. We need to make sure our police service is transparent and accountable, no more playing games or covering up for each other ๐Ÿ”Ž.

I'm not surprised to hear about this in Toronto ๐Ÿค”. It's like they're taking all the old cop shows and playing them out in real life. I mean, come on, attempting a murder at a jail? That's just ridiculous ๐Ÿ’€. And the fact that there are people on the force who are basically helping out organized crime is sickening ๐Ÿ˜ท. The police union being quiet about it is even more messed up ๐Ÿ™„. It's like they're covering each other's backs or something. Anyway, I hope those who get caught get some serious time behind bars โฐ. It's clear that the system failed here and someone needs to be held accountable ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ˜ฑ can't believe what's goin down in Toronto right now... corruption in the police force is a big deal and it's not just about individual cases, it's like a whole system fail ๐Ÿคฏ. I mean, how do you trust law enforcement when some of your own are involved in this kind of stuff? It's all about accountability and making sure that no one is above the law ๐Ÿ’ฏ. The fact that some officers were involved in drug trafficking and leaking personal info to criminals is just shocking... it's like a nightmare come true ๐Ÿค”. We need to see real consequences for these people, not just suspension without pay ๐Ÿค‘. The police union should be speaking out about this too, 'cause it's affecting everyone who trusts the system ๐Ÿ’ช.

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ˜ฑ this is like, super depressing news ๐Ÿค• but at least its out in the open now ๐Ÿ’ก so that people can see what's really going on and call for change ๐Ÿ’ช we need more accountability in our systems of power ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ and not just lip service ๐Ÿ™„ the fact that 4 officers have already been suspended is a good start ๐Ÿคž but we gotta go further ๐Ÿ‘Š we need to make sure that everyone is held accountable, no matter how high up they are ๐Ÿ’ผ
