Eagles stay or go: Tight end and fullback

Eagles Face Crucial Tight End and Fullback Decisions as 2026 Offseason Looms

The Philadelphia Eagles are approaching a critical juncture in their offseason preparations, with several key positions on the roster set to be resolved. The tight end and fullback roles are among those that will likely go through significant changes, with some players certain to return while others may not.

Dallas Goedert, who has been the team's top tight end for years, is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. While he still possesses skills as a receiver, his lack of ability in the run-blocking department and age (31) raise questions about whether he will be able to command a lucrative contract from other teams.

It appears that Goedert may not attract offers as high as those Josh Sweat might have received last year, but he is sure to receive some interest. Contending teams with tight end holes could make a move for him in free agency.

On the other side of the spectrum, Grant Calcaterra seems like a player stuck in limbo. He doesn't excel enough as a pass-catcher to warrant being considered an elite tight end, and his inability to block makes it clear that he has limited value on the field.

Calcaterra's performance last season should have made it clear that he shouldn't be returning to any capacity, but it remains to be seen if the Eagles will share this view.

Kylen Granson played a low-key role for the Eagles in 2025, and with a relatively inexpensive contract, it would not be surprising if they choose not to re-sign him.

However, Cameron Latu has found himself a reliable fullback in the past, particularly on special teams. While his roster spot may be uncertain, he is still expected to make an appearance at training camp this year.

VanSumeren, who sustained serious knee injuries and suffered a broken patellar tendon last season, might not be able to hold onto his spot after becoming an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

The Eagles could try to bring him back for one final stint as the team's top fullback / special teams player, but only at a very low cost. If VanSumeren can recover and regain some of his lost form, he may still have a role with the team in 2026.

🤔 I mean, I think the Eagles are being pretty reckless if they consider bringing back Grant Calcaterra. Like, what's the point? He's just not doing his job as a tight end. 📉 And VanSumeren's injuries were super serious, I don't know how he'll bounce back from that. 🤕 Maybe it's better to cut their losses and find someone new who can actually contribute. The team needs guys who are gonna make a difference, you know? 🔒

so its been said that Dallas Goedert might not get offers as high as Josh Sweat last year 🤔... i feel like its weird cuz Goedert has been so good at catching passes for like 4 years now... and hes still pretty decent at blocking too 🏈. but idk maybe hes just getting old 😅, 31 is like middle aged in football terms?

and whats up with Grant Calcaterra tho? 🤷‍♂️ hes not bad but never good enough to be an elite tight end... and hes all over the place when it comes to blocking 🔥. i guess he might stick around just because hes a decent player, not great, but decent 🙏.

Omg I was watching an Eagles game last weekend 🏈👀 and they were so close to winning! but anyway back to this tight end and fullback thingy... it sounds like Dallas Goedert is kinda old now? Like, shouldn't he be more valuable if he's been good for years? And what's with Grant Calcaterra not being able to block 🤔🏈 I don't get why teams keep giving him chances...

I think the Eagles are gonna have to make some tough decisions on their O-line 🤔💡, 'specially with Goedert's age comin' up and Calcaterra just not doin' it for 'em as a pass-catcher 🤷‍♂️. But on the bright side, if they can find someone to replace VanSumeren at fullback, that'd be huge for their special teams game 👍!

idk if i'm surprised that goedert is gonna be a free agent tho... his numbers did take a hit last season 🤔. but on the other hand, he's still got that talent as a receiver, so imo, the eagles should try to keep him, but at a more reasonable price considering his lack of block game 😒. as for calcaterra, i'm not sure what the eagles are thinking... dude just cant seem to get it right on the field 🤷‍♂️. maybe they're holding out hope that he'll finally break through? kylen granson might be a nice backup option if they dont re-sign him tho 😊

the eagles need to make some tough decisions this offseason 🤔, esp with goedert's age comin up... if they don't re sign him, who's gonna step up and fill that tight end spot? 📈 maybe calcaterra won't get a chance 2 prove himself anymore 💔, but kylen granson's contract is pretty cheap so idk why not give him another shot 😐

omg i think the eagles need to make some serious decisions about their tight end position 🤔 like if goedert is really worth that big contract or not... and calcaterra just kinda sucks 😐 i dont get why they cant find someone better to replace him. kylen granson was pretty low-key last season, but maybe the eagles will take a shot on him again? 💪 and can we talk about how much faith they have in cam latu tho? like he's been reliable on special teams, but is that enough? 🤷‍♀️

ugh the eagles r gonna get robbed if they let go of goedert 🤯 he's still got it despite bein old, but i guess that's what they say 'bout every player who gets lucky 😒 calcaterra is a total dud tho, no way he makes the team next year. and don't even get me started on vansumeren, one knee injury is bad enough but then broke his patellar tendon 🤕 that's just not fair to the guy. latu might actually be a solid signing for fullback, hope they give him another shot 🤞

idk why they wanna bring back calcaterra lol...he just dont cut it on either side of the ball 🤷‍♂️. i think they should just keep granson and try to find a new fullback instead, or maybe even sign someone from outside if u know what im sayin? 💸

Ugh, gotta think about our Eagles tight end situation now 🤯... think they should try to find someone who's better at blocking than Goedert, idk... Dallas is getting old and might not get the deals he wants 🤑. Meanwhile, Grant Calcaterra just sucks right now 🚮. He can't even block! On the other side of things, Kylen Granson was pretty meh last year, but he's got a cheap contract so I guess that's something 🤷‍♂️. Fullback is an easy one tho - Cameron Latu all day, erryday 💪. He's reliable on special teams and can still hold his own on the field. And VanSumeren? Yeah, he might not make it back... gotta see how that knee recovers 🤕

omg i cant believe we got to see van summeren struggle last season 🤕🏈 i feel for him cuz he was so dominant on special teams before those injuries happened but now its hard to see him holding onto his spot 🤔 what do you guys think the eagles will do with grant calcaterra? seems like they shouldve cut ties with him by now 😐

I think it's weird that they're not giving Grant Calcaterra a chance to prove himself more. He's been on the roster for a while now and you'd think they'd want to see if he can step up his game before cutting him loose entirely. But at the same time, if he's really not living up to expectations, it might be better for the team to move on and find someone who can contribute more. I mean, Dallas Goedert is getting up there in years, so you never know what he'll be able to command on the open market this offseason 🤔🏈

🤔 so i dont get why the eagles are worried about these tight end and fullback roles 🤷‍♂️ like whats the big deal? cant they just sign someone new or cut ties with the players who arent doing well?

and what happened to the guy van summeren? was he really that hurt last season? it sounds like a lot of drama for a football team 🏈💪

**🐦💡** The Eagles are in a tough spot when it comes to their tight end and fullback positions! 🤔 According to data from ESPN, Dallas Goedert's salary cap hit is around $15 million, which is relatively high for a player of his age (31). 😬 This means he might not get the same level of offers as some younger players. Meanwhile, Grant Calcaterra's performance last season was pretty mediocre 📊, with only 23 receptions and 0 touchdowns on 45 targets. 🤷‍♂️

**💰📈** On the other hand, Kylen Granson's relatively inexpensive contract (around $2 million) makes him a more attractive option for the Eagles. According to NFL.com, the average salary of an NFL tight end is around $8.5 million, so Goedert's potential new contract could be higher than what he currently earns! 🤑

**📈💪** In terms of fullbacks, Cameron Latu has been a reliable option for the Eagles in the past 🎉. According to Pro Football Focus, Latu had an 82.1 grade as a blocker last season, which is above average. 💯 However, his roster spot might still be uncertain due to VanSumeren's injury and recovery status.

**📊👀** I'd say the Eagles need to weigh their options carefully when it comes to these positions. They need someone who can block effectively at tight end, but also provide some receiving value. And for fullback, they need someone who can bring a reliable presence on special teams. 🤔

omg i just got my new phone 📱 and im trying to get used to this snapchat thing 😂 anyway back to nfl news... so apparently dallas goedert is getting old 🤣 like 31? that's old for a football player, right? and what's up with grant calcaterra not being able to block? cant he just use his hands or something 🤷‍♂️ i feel like im supposed to care about this stuff but honestly the eagles are gonna be fine whoever they choose for tight end

I feel like the Eagles need to think about what's best for their future, not just keep players around because they're familiar faces or cheap contracts 🤔. Dallas Goedert is a great player, but if he can't block anymore, it's time to move on and find someone who can contribute in multiple ways. And I'm surprised the Eagles haven't made a move for a real tight end yet, like someone with more speed or athleticism... would be sick to see them get that upgrade 📈

Idk why the Eagles would wanna stick with Goedert, dude 🤷‍♂️. He's been holding them back for years, and at 31, he's just not getting it done anymore. Calcaterra's gotta go, he's useless on both sides of the ball. And what's with Granson? Low-key role? That's code for "we ain't gonna re-sign him". Meanwhile, Latu's got some value on special teams, maybe they should keep him around. But VanSumeren... if he can come back healthy, it'd be a good idea to give him one last shot. Maybe the Eagles just need to take a chance on someone new, like that rookie tight end from Nebraska or whatever 🤔

I think it's interesting that Dallas Goedert is going to be a free agent this offseason 🤔. He's had some great years for the Eagles, but at 31, I'm not sure if teams will be willing to give him a huge contract. On the other hand, Grant Calcaterra just doesn't seem to fit in as a tight end... he's like a puzzle piece that doesn't quite fit 💡.

I'd love to see what the Eagles do with Kylen Granson this offseason. He played a pretty low-key role last year, but I think he has some potential if they're willing to give him a shot 🌱. And VanSumeren... yeah, I don't know how long he's got left in his career 😔. One final stint as the team's top fullback could be it for him.

I'm just hoping that whoever comes in will bring some stability to those positions 🔒. We can't have the Eagles' offense being all over the place next season! 🤦‍♂️
