Woman Killed in San Mateo Pedestrian Accident
A tragic collision took place in San Mateo on Friday morning, claiming the life of a woman who was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street. The incident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of South El Camino Real and 17th Avenue.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver turned north from Bovet Road onto South El Camino Real and inadvertently hit the pedestrian in the crosswalk on the north side of the intersection. Lanes on South El Camino Real were subsequently closed for approximately three hours as a precautionary measure.
Police responded quickly to the scene and found the woman in critical condition. Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries at an area hospital. Her identity has not been released.
The driver involved in the accident remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Officers are reviewing footage from surveillance cameras to piece together the events leading up to the collision.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this senseless tragedy. It's heartbreaking that a woman lost her life in such a preventable accident. 
As we reflect on the incident, it's clear that nothing can replace the value of human life. The fact that the driver was turning north and didn't see the pedestrian crossing over makes me wonder about the importance of being more mindful when driving, especially at busy intersections.

. Can't help but think of that movie "Forrest Gump" when I see stuff like this happen... it's just a reminder to be more aware of our surroundings and look both ways before crossing the street

can't they see those crosswalks? and why did it take them 3 hours to close down the lanes?! seems like a rush job to me... 
i mean, i know accidents can happen to anyone but still it's so sad

also, 3 hours of closure is a lot of time for people who need to commute or have appointments. can't say if the driver was at fault yet, but accidents like these just highlight how unpredictable life can be...

. i mean, i've walked around san mateo a few times and it seems like people are always on their phones while driving. can't we just have a system that encourages people to put down their devices and focus on the road? 
. Anyway, hope the authorities are able to catch whoever was driving recklessly and make sure they pay for their actions...

. anyway, if u have any security footage from the area, pls come forward so they can get some clarity on what happened 
But, on the other hand, it's still a huge bummer that someone lost their life... I mean, what if they had been more careful or something? 
And, honestly, wouldn't it be great if we could get our roads to be way safer and more pedestrian-friendly? 
But, at the same time, are we really blaming the driver for this accident when maybe other factors came into play?
