Driver hits, kills pedestrian in San Mateo

Woman Killed in San Mateo Pedestrian Accident

A tragic collision took place in San Mateo on Friday morning, claiming the life of a woman who was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street. The incident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of South El Camino Real and 17th Avenue.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver turned north from Bovet Road onto South El Camino Real and inadvertently hit the pedestrian in the crosswalk on the north side of the intersection. Lanes on South El Camino Real were subsequently closed for approximately three hours as a precautionary measure.

Police responded quickly to the scene and found the woman in critical condition. Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries at an area hospital. Her identity has not been released.

The driver involved in the accident remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Officers are reviewing footage from surveillance cameras to piece together the events leading up to the collision.

If you witnessed the incident or have any information, police urge anyone to contact Traffic Officer Julio Jolivette at [email protected]. Further updates on this developing story will be provided as more information becomes available.

πŸ˜” I'm still trying to wrap my head around this senseless tragedy. It's heartbreaking that a woman lost her life in such a preventable accident. πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ As we reflect on the incident, it's clear that nothing can replace the value of human life. The fact that the driver was turning north and didn't see the pedestrian crossing over makes me wonder about the importance of being more mindful when driving, especially at busy intersections.

It's also worth noting that this incident highlights the need for improved infrastructure to prevent such accidents from happening in the first place. With South El Camino Real being a major thoroughfare, it's surprising that there aren't more safety measures in place, like pedestrian crossings or speed cameras, to deter reckless driving.

Let's hope that the driver takes responsibility for their actions and cooperates fully with the investigation. Meanwhile, I can only imagine the pain and grief that the woman's loved ones must be feeling right now πŸ€•.

I don’t usually comment but... it's so sad to hear about the woman who lost her life in that accident πŸ€•. It's just a reminder of how careful we need to be when crossing the street, especially at busy intersections like that one. I mean, you'd think with all the cameras and traffic lights, accidents would be way fewer these days... but still, it's always a tragedy. The driver did everything right by stopping and cooperating with the cops, so that's a good thing πŸ™. But what really gets me is how quickly we move on from these incidents without even taking a moment to think about the impact they have on families and loved ones πŸ€”. Anyways, I hope justice is served and that the community comes together to support the family of the victim πŸ’•.

πŸš—πŸ’”πŸ˜±[A person is shown walking into the road and being hit by a car, with a red "X" marked through it. The caption reads: "When you're trying to cross the street, but the universe has other plans πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ"]

Oh man πŸ€•, can't believe another senseless tragedy like that happened in our city πŸŒ†. It's so sad for the family of the victim πŸ’”, they must be going through such a tough time 😩. The driver who was involved seems okay though, I hope they're not too traumatized by what happened 😬. San Mateo is supposed to be one of those super safe places to live 🀞, but accidents like this can happen anywhere, right? 🚨 At least the cops are trying to piece together what happened and make sure justice is served πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ. Can't help but think of that movie "Forrest Gump" when I see stuff like this happen... it's just a reminder to be more aware of our surroundings and look both ways before crossing the street πŸš—πŸ’‘

πŸ˜” just heard about that poor woman who got hit by a car in San Mateo. it's so sad when something like that happens, especially during morning rush hour when people are in a hurry πŸš—πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ. I feel bad for the driver too, they must be really shaken up after what happened 😬. but what's even more frustrating is that this kind of accident could've been prevented if drivers were paying attention and following traffic rules πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. it's just a reminder to be extra careful when walking or crossing streets, especially during peak hours ⏰. my heart goes out to the woman's family and loved ones πŸ’”.

πŸ˜• This is just terrible πŸ˜”... San Mateo's got a reputation for being super bike-friendly and walkable, but accidents like this still happen πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ. I wonder if the driver was distracted or not paying attention while driving... maybe there's more to this story than what's being reported? πŸ€” What kinda safety measures are they gonna put in place now that a person lost their life on those streets? And btw, it's 3 hours for just precautionary measure? feels like overkill πŸ˜’

πŸ˜” just read about that woman who got hit by a car in San Mateo and it's so sad πŸ€• my mom would've freaked out if something like that happened to her favorite aunt... anyway, I think we need to make our streets safer for pedestrians πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸš¨ like, what's the deal with drivers not paying attention on the road?! πŸ™„ can't they see those crosswalks? and why did it take them 3 hours to close down the lanes?! seems like a rush job to me... πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ anyway, hope the police catch whoever was driving recklessly πŸ’―

omg u gotta feel bad 4 dat girl πŸ€•πŸ˜” she was just tryin 2 cross the street like a normal person but thas what happens when ur not payin attention πŸ‘Ž i mean, i know accidents can happen to anyone but still it's so sad πŸ’” i hope da driver is doin okay tho, he seems really nice about the whole thing πŸ€— maybe he can donate some money 2 dat charity or somethin 😊 anywayz, we gotta give da city of san mateo props 4 how quickly they responded to da scene πŸ‘ let's all just hope dat other ppl are more careful out dere πŸ’•

πŸ˜žπŸš— it's just another tragic accident that makes you wanna ask why did the driver not see her? πŸ€” i mean, they got cameras everywhere now, and we're still relying on eyewitnesses to get the facts straight? πŸ“Έ also, 3 hours of closure is a lot of time for people who need to commute or have appointments. can't say if the driver was at fault yet, but accidents like these just highlight how unpredictable life can be... πŸŒͺ️ anyway, sending my condolences to the woman's family πŸ’”

omg what a heartbreaking news πŸ€•... like, i know accidents can happen anywhere but still it's just so sad πŸ˜”. the thing is, i think we need to talk about how our roads are designed in the first place... are they even safe for pedestrians? πŸš—πŸ’¨. i mean, i've walked around san mateo a few times and it seems like people are always on their phones while driving. can't we just have a system that encourages people to put down their devices and focus on the road? πŸ“±πŸ˜’. anyway, my thoughts are with the woman's family and loved ones πŸ’”. they need our support during this tough time πŸ€—.

Just saw that tragic news about the woman who got killed in San Mateo 🚨😱. Can't even imagine how her family is feeling right now πŸ’”. It's just so frustrating when these accidents happen because of human error, like a distracted driver or something... I mean, we've all been there where we're not paying attention and suddenly we're face to face with our demise 😳. Anyway, hope the authorities are able to catch whoever was driving recklessly and make sure they pay for their actions... https://www.santacruzanews.com/2025/02/01/woman-killed-in-san-mateo-pedestrian-accident/ πŸ“š

πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ Another day, another pedestrian dies in a road accident πŸš—πŸ˜©. Like, can't we all just get along and not hurt each other on the way to work? πŸ™„ The city should really look into improving those crosswalks already. It's like they're trying to put pedestrians out of their misery or something πŸ˜’. And what's up with these driver's education classes? Clearly, someone needs a refresher course... or three πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. Anyway, RIP to the woman who lost her life today πŸ’”. May she rest in peace πŸ‘».

man, another senseless tragedy πŸ€•... i'm glad the authorities are taking this seriously and reviewing all footage from the scene, but it's just so frustrating that we still have to deal with these kinds of accidents happening every day... i know drivers get distracted sometimes, but shouldn't there be more measures in place to prevent these kinds of collisions? like designated crosswalks or improved traffic signals? it's not like this is the first time something like this has happened, and yet we're still dealing with the aftermath πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ.

πŸ˜” just heard about this accident in San Mateo and it's really sad. pedestrians need to be so careful when crossing the street, you never know what might happen... 🚨 hopefully this driver is okay too. they seemed to be really shaken by what happened. i feel bad for the woman's family who has to deal with this loss. 😒 anyway, let's all just take a moment to appreciate how lucky we are to have safe streets and roads in our community πŸ™

πŸ€• u no what's crazy is how these city planners always try 2 fix intersections but somehow accidents still happen 🚧. like, they gotta do better than that. this woman's life was literally cut short and it's all cuz of a careless driver πŸ‘Š. anyway, if u have any security footage from the area, pls come forward so they can get some clarity on what happened πŸ“ΈπŸ’‘

Ugh, can't believe it's another senseless accident πŸ˜”... wait, actually, maybe it was preventable? πŸ€” The fact that the driver turned north from Bovet Road onto South El Camino Real kinda implies they were already paying attention to the road, right? πŸš—πŸ‘€ But, on the other hand, it's still a huge bummer that someone lost their life... I mean, what if they had been more careful or something? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ And, honestly, wouldn't it be great if we could get our roads to be way safer and more pedestrian-friendly? πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸŒˆ But, at the same time, are we really blaming the driver for this accident when maybe other factors came into play? 🀯 I don't know, man... just so frustrating all around πŸ˜•.
