DeVon-tails Smith and 8 other dogs from Philly-area shelters are competing in the Puppy Bowl

Puppy Bowl Frenzy Hits Home with Philly-Area Canines

As the big game approaches, Philadelphia is abuzz with excitement, thanks to an unlikely group of local heroes. Ten adorable dogs from shelters across the city's suburbs are set to star in this year's Puppy Bowl, a beloved Animal Planet event that aims to raise awareness and funds for animal welfare organizations.

Meet Cricket, a plucky pitbull mix from Harley's Haven in Perkasie who was just days old when he arrived at his new home. With a heart defect requiring special care, Cricket proved himself a resilient little pup. Now nicknamed Buck after the Super Bowl name DeVon-tails Smith shed for the Puppy Bowl, Cricket is ready to shine alongside his brother Grasshopper.

DeVon-tails Smith, an Akita-husky hybrid from Providence Animal Shelter in Media, also boasts an impressive backstory. Adopted after spending time with a foster family, he's now taking the field with Teddy, one of his 10 siblings. Will DeVon-tails Smith live up to his Eagles namesake on the puppy football pitch? Only time will tell.

Finch, a feisty beagle from Animal Welfare Association in Voorhees Township, has already won hearts with her high energy and playful demeanor. Adopted by her family at just 8 months old, Finch enjoys romping around her backyard and snuggling up to her human sister on the school bus.

Grasshopper, Cricket's brother and fellow Puppy Bowl contender from Harley's Haven, faced an early life challenge: a diabetes diagnosis at about 7 weeks old. But with proper care and love, he thrived in his new home before joining Cricket as Team Fluff.

Other Philly-area pups vying for the Puppy Bowl spotlight include Jill, a sweet Cavalier King Charles Spaniel from Phoenix Animal Rescue; Lin, an enigmatic mini poodle named Pasleigh after her previous shelter's error with her adoption; Oscar, a pint-sized powerhouse with a big personality from Phoenix Animal Rescue; and Shirley, a resilient pup rescued during Texas's 2023 flash floods.

Last but not least, Teddy, DeVon-tails Smith's brother, rounds out the Team Fluff lineup. With an Akita-husky heritage like his sibling, he proved himself as a worthy competitor in puppy football at just 7 weeks old. After spending time with a foster family, Teddy found his forever home – and one of his siblings.

These talented puppers will kick off the Puppy Bowl festivities on February 8th, entertaining and potentially inspiring pet adoption. Will you be tuning in to see your favorite furry competitors strut their stuff?

I am totally stoked that these adorable Philly-area pups are getting a chance to shine in the Puppy Bowl 🐢❀️. I mean, who wouldn't want to watch a bunch of cute dogs running around and playing football? But seriously, it's amazing that these dogs have found forever homes and get to be a part of something so fun and entertaining. The fact that they're all from local shelters and are being used to raise awareness and funds for animal welfare organizations is just the icing on the cake πŸŽ‰.

I love that we're seeing more and more dogs like Cricket, who's overcome some tough challenges in his life to become a star puppy. And Finch is just giving me so much energy with her feisty personality 🀣. I also feel bad for the pups that had to go through shelters before finding their forever homes, but it's great to see them all coming together and making us smile.

The Puppy Bowl always feels like a really positive event to me, even though it is just a game 🐾. It's great that it's raising awareness about animal welfare and maybe even inspiring some people to adopt pets from shelters. Can't wait to tune in and see which pup comes out on top! πŸ€”

omg I'm so stoked for these adorable pups! 🐢❀️ they're literally going to steal hearts everywhere! I mean, Cricket's story with the heart defect is seriously impressive, and Finch is just too cute for words 🀩. And can we talk about how awesome it is that all of these shelters are getting the love? 🌈 like, this Puppy Bowl thing is not only entertaining but also actually doing some good for animal welfare. I'm def gonna be tuning in on Feb 8th to see all the furry action! πŸ˜‚πŸ‘

omg I'm so down for this puppy bowl thingy! reminds me of when I used to watch it with my niece when she was little 🐢🏈. those little dogs were always so adorable and funny, I loved watching them play and be all cute. now they're grown and getting adopted by nice people, it's just too sweet. like Cricket, he was born with a heart defect and almost didn't make it, but look at him now, he's got his own name and is gonna shine on that field 🀩. and Finch, oh man, she sounds like my little sister when I was growing up, always full of energy and playing around πŸ˜‚. can't wait to watch the puppy bowl again this year! πŸ“Ί

I'm loving how cute these Philly-area pups are! 🐢❀️ Reminds me of when my niece used to bring home those adorable little rescue dogs from her volunteer work at the local animal shelter back in the day. The Puppy Bowl is just like that, but on steroids - or should I say, dog treats? πŸ˜‚ I've got a friend who's been involved with the Animal Welfare Association, and she swears by their mission to help those furry friends find forever homes. It's heartwarming to see these pups getting some much-needed attention, especially since we're in the midst of Super Bowl season. Does anyone else remember watching the Puppy Bowl when it first started? It's amazing how far it's come!

🐾❀️ I'm so stoked for all these adorable Philly-area pups! They're already bringing so much joy and attention to animal shelters across the city 🌟 Cricket and Buck are literally giving me all the feels with their heartwarming story 😍. And Finch is just too funny, her high energy is infectious! πŸ’ƒπŸ» I'm also loving Team Fluff's dynamic - it's amazing how they've found their forever homes despite some tough starts in life 🌈 It's definitely gonna be a wild and entertaining Puppy Bowl this year! Who else is excited to tune in and cheer on these puppers? πŸΎπŸ’–

OMG I'm so hyped for this year's Puppy Bowl 🐢😍! Philly-area pups are gonna slay the game and maybe even find forever homes 🀞🏼. Cricket and Grasshopper are giving me all the feels with their adorable underdog stories ❀️, but I gotta say, Finch is my ultimate puppy queen πŸ‘‘ - that beagle energy is infectious! And can we talk about Teddy's sibling status? Team Fluff just got a whole lot cuter 😍🐾. Fingers crossed for these pups and the amazing cause they're supporting πŸ™πŸ’•

omg u gotta check out this year's puppy bowl 🐾🏈! i'm low-key obsessed with cricket & devon-tails smith - those guys r total underdogs but they got spirit lol. and can we talk about the backstorys of these pups?! Finch is literally my kinda girl, all high energy and playful 🀣. and shirley's rescue story is giving me all the feels πŸΆπŸ’•. i'm def tuning in to see which pup will win it all... and btw, who else needs a puppy football pitch in philly?

omg i cant wait for puppy bowl this year! 🐾😍 its so cool that they got pups from shelters across philly area - it really shows how awesome animal welfare orgs are πŸ™Œ especially cricket and buck, those two r adorable! πŸ’• cricket's heart defect story is super inspiring too, shows that even with challenges, he can still be a superstar pup πŸ’ͺ meanwhile i'm rooting for devon-tails smith & teddy, their puppy football skills better than mine lol πŸ˜‚ but seriously, puppy bowl always makes me wanna adopt more dogs 🐾❀️ let's spread some love and get these pups their forever homes!!! πŸŽ‰

πŸΎπŸ˜‚ I'm totally sure that Puppy Bowl is a total waste of time, but at the same time, who can resist those adorable little faces?! 🀣 It's amazing how they're using it as a platform for pet adoption and raising awareness about animal welfare. But, if I'm being completely honest, isn't it kinda weird that we're celebrating puppies playing football like it's some kind of serious sport? πŸ€ͺ And what's up with all the super cute names? Buck and Teddy and Cricket and Finch... it's like they need a dictionary or something! πŸ˜‚

the puppy bowl sounds like a really sweet thing but how do they even pick which dogs get to be on it and what's the vetting process like for these pups? πŸΆπŸ€” i mean, some of them have serious health issues so are the shelters doing enough to help those guys beforehand or is this all just publicity stunt? πŸ™ƒ

πŸΎπŸ˜’ I'm so over how hard it is to navigate this forum sometimes. Anyway, back to the Puppy Bowl... I love how excited everyone is for these adorable pups, but can we talk about why Animal Planet has to make a big deal out of every single shelter pup showing up? It feels like it's just another excuse for them to promote their brand. And don't even get me started on the lack of information about the actual animal welfare organizations they're supposed to be supporting πŸ™„. At least this year, there are some great rescue stories, but it would be awesome if we got more details about what happens to these pups after the Puppy Bowl πŸ€”. Oh, and can someone please fix the formatting on these posts? It's always a mess 😩.

OMG, can u believe those adorable pups from Philly are gonna star in the Puppy Bowl πŸΎπŸ’•? Like, it's so sweet that shelters across the area sent their cuties for a chance at the big game. Cricket, Buck, and Finch are literally stealing hearts with their stories! I'm dyin' to know if DeVon-tails Smith lives up to his Eagles name on the puppy football pitch 🏈🐢. And omg, Shirley's diabetes diagnosis story is so inspiring! Those pups are more than just cute faces - they're also helping raise awareness and funds for animal welfare orgs πŸ™ŒπŸ’–

the puppy bowl thingy is so adorbs lol 🐾❀️ but what's really cool is that it's not just about cute puppies, it's also about raising awareness and funds for animal shelters and welfare orgs. like, the fact that these dogs are from Philly-area shelters is amazing - it shows that pet adoption is super accessible in our city πŸ“πŸ‘ and i'm low-key excited to see which pup comes out on top... but let's be real, we're all winning with puppy Bowl πŸ˜‚

man 🀯 these puppies are literally going to starve themselves for those puppy bowl matches lol i mean who needs snacks when there's a super bowl to win but seriously these dogs have health issues and still they're gonna play football like it's nobodies business πŸ•πŸ’ͺ what about their well-being tho? the paws-itive vibes from animal welfare organizations is cool and all, but let's not forget the potential risks for these tiny athletes πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

awww these cuties are going to steal hearts for sure! i'm so glad animal welfare orgs get some love thru this event 🐾❀️ cant wait to see all the adorable pups play & maybe even inspire ppl to adopt 🀞 team fluffy's got me hyped!!! cricket & devontails smith are my faves btw 🐢πŸ’ͺ

I'm so down for this Puppy Bowl thing πŸΎπŸ’• but I don't know if it's really gonna make a difference in the grand scheme of things... like, are we really helping that many pups or is it just a buncha hype? πŸ€” And another thing, what's up with all these puppies being from shelters across Philly? Don't get me wrong, they're adorable and all but shouldn't some of those resources be going towards actual animal welfare orgs instead of just a TV show? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Oh wait, I know, maybe the exposure is what matters... or am I just contradicting myself again πŸ˜‚
