Copy of Declaration of Independence from July 1776 to be sold this spring

A Rare Copy of the Declaration of Independence Hits the Auction Block

This spring, a priceless piece of American history will go up for sale at Goldin auction house in Runnemede, New Jersey. The copy of the Declaration of Independence from July 1776 is considered one of only 10 surviving copies and dates back to when broadsides were the primary means of disseminating official government business.

According to Ken Goldin, founder and CEO of Goldin auction house, this particular copy was printed in Exeter, New Hampshire, and has survived remarkably well. "It's tremendous condition, considering it may have been posted in a tavern or some kind of hall," Goldin said. "The fact that any of them survived is remarkable."

This rare document is expected to fetch a substantial price, with another similar copy sold by Christie's auction house for nearly $5.7 million. The value of this particular item remains to be seen, but its historical significance and rarity make it an attractive prospect for collectors.

Goldin's company will also feature over 400 other historic artifacts in their upcoming USA 250 Auction, which will take place from May to June. These items include prints and memorabilia related to key events and individuals throughout American history, such as Martin Luther King Jr., John F. Kennedy, and Babe Ruth.

For those looking to buy a piece of history without breaking the bank, Goldin's auction house promises there will be opportunities for collectors with more modest budgets. As Goldin joked in a social media video announcing the auction, the lucky bidder might even stumble upon a secret treasure map โ€“ a nod to the fictional 2004 film "National Treasure."

๐Ÿคฏ 10 out of 50 copies of the Declaration of Independence are known to exist, and this one is super rare ๐Ÿ“š! It's been over 240 years since it was printed in Exeter, NH ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ. You'd think it would've gotten lost or destroyed by now, but here we are ๐Ÿ’ฅ. The value? Who knows, but if you look at the stats, a similar copy sold for $5.7 million last year ๐Ÿ’ธ. They're expecting big bucks for this one, but honestly, who wouldn't want a piece of history that's over 240 years old ๐Ÿค”?

Here are some fun facts:

* The Declaration of Independence is the most iconic document in American history
* It was written by a committee of 5 people, not just George Washington or Thomas Jefferson ๐Ÿ˜‚
* There are actually more than 400 historical artifacts up for auction next month - talk about a treasure trove! ๐Ÿน

If you're feeling lucky and want to check out the auction, I recommend keeping an eye on the stats. The Goldin auction house is expecting some serious bids ๐Ÿ’ธ๐Ÿ’ฅ.

omg, can you even imagine seeing that in person ?? ๐Ÿคฏ I would totally freak out if I got to see it up close. the condition of this copy is insane, considering how old it is! i mean, broadsides were basically the earliest form of social media lol. seriously though, $5.7 million for a similar one was crazy... will this one go even higher? ๐Ÿค‘ also, i love that they're including other cool artifacts in the auction - martin luther king jr's stuff must be super valuable! and omg, the idea of finding a secret treasure map is so exciting ๐Ÿ˜† goldin's got some good jokes too

You know what this rarity teaches us? Appreciation & gratitude for things we already have. We're so used to valuing new things that we often forget about the old, priceless ones right in front of us. I mean, think about it โ€“ a piece of history like this Declaration of Independence copy has seen centuries go by and still, its value doesn't diminish. It's because we recognize its significance & worth, not just because of what it's 'worth' monetarily ๐Ÿ’ธ

It also reminds us that sometimes, the things we need most are right there in our past experiences. We might've thought those memories were lost forever, but they're actually hidden treasures waiting to be rediscovered ๐Ÿ”

And hey, who knows? Maybe this auction will inspire some young collector out there to start their own 'treasure map' of history ๐ŸŽจ

๐Ÿค‘ this is crazy I mean, think about it - one of only 10 copies of the Declaration of Independence up for sale? that's like finding a rare coin in your grandma's attic. and the fact that it's in good condition despite being over 240 years old? mind blown ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

man I cant believe they found this old doc its like something outta a movie lol imagine seeing that in person its def gonna be some crazy cash ๐Ÿ’ธ๐ŸŽจ and i feel bad for whoever buys it bc its not just about the money its about preserving history ๐Ÿค gotta keep these kinda things safe so future genz can learn from them

OMG u gotta love it when history comes alive ๐Ÿ˜! I mean can u imagine having that kinda piece of history in ur own home? ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ”ฅ It's insane thinking about how that document was literally posted up in a tavern or some hall back in the day ๐Ÿคฏ. And the fact that it survived all these yrs is just, wow! ๐Ÿ’ฅ I'm not surprised it's gonna fetch a pretty penny tho, history pieces like this are super rare & valuable ๐Ÿ’ธ. I'd love to check out Goldin's auction house and see what other hidden gems they have ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ‘€

OMG ๐Ÿคฏ this is like, so cool! I mean, can you believe we get to see one of only 10 remaining copies of the Declaration of Independence up for sale? It's crazy how well-preserved it still is. And the fact that it was printed in Exeter, New Hampshire, makes it even more special ๐Ÿ˜Š. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it fetches a really high price - can you imagine who might end up owning this piece of history? ๐Ÿค” Either way, it's amazing for us collectors to have the chance to see and own these incredible artifacts ๐Ÿ’ฅ. And Goldin's auction house seems like they're making an effort to make it accessible to more people, which is super awesome ๐Ÿ‘.

๐Ÿค” I mean, can you believe our founding fathers' words are literally up for sale? It's wild thinking that this copy has been around since '76 and it's still in decent shape. $5-7 million is a pretty penny, but hey, someone's gonna make history with their wallet ๐Ÿ’ธ. I'm curious to see what other treasures Goldin's got stashed away. History buffs and collectors, rejoice! ๐ŸŽ‰ Maybe this auction will inspire a new generation to learn more about the past. Who knows, you might just stumble upon a piece of your family tree... or at least a cool artifact ๐Ÿ˜Š.

omg i cant even imagine being able to see this copy of the Declaration of Independence in person lol it would be like stepping into history or something! i've always been fascinated by these old documents and how they ended up surviving for so long its crazy that some of them were just posted up in taverns or whatever ๐Ÿคฏ

i'm also loving the fact that there are gonna be other cool artifacts up for auction too, like prints and memorabilia from famous people and events thats exactly what i'd want to spend my money on - a piece of history that actually has stories behind it ๐Ÿ’ธ

and lol at the joke about the secret treasure map ๐ŸŽ‰ idk if ill be one of the lucky ones who stumbles upon something amazing but its def gonna be exciting to watch this auction unfold!

Ugh, great, just what we need more billionaires buying up pieces of history ๐Ÿค‘๐Ÿ’ธ. Can't they just display them in a museum or something? I mean, it's not like they're going to sit on a shelf collecting dust... oh wait, that's exactly where most historical artifacts end up ๐Ÿ˜ด. At least this one is supposed to fetch a pretty penny, but let's be real, it's just another piece of paper with some old words on it ๐Ÿ“. I guess it's cool that they're trying to make it accessible to collectors who aren't made of money (like me ๐Ÿ’ธ). Fingers crossed for the $5.7 million copy being sold at Christie's... maybe someone will finally learn how to take care of a piece of history ๐Ÿคž

omg can u believe this?! ๐Ÿคฏ they're selling one of the original 10 copies of the declaration of independence... that's like, history in the making lol the auction house is trying to downplay it but let's be real $5m+ is a small price to pay for a piece of American history ๐Ÿ’ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ what's crazy is that it might have been posted in a tavern or something ๐Ÿบ and it still survived ๐Ÿ™ can't wait to see who wins this thing, fingers crossed its a good cause ๐Ÿ‘€

idk about this auction ๐Ÿค‘... like, $5.7 million is crazy for a copy of some old paper ๐Ÿ“œ. i mean, it's history and all that, but can't they just display it in a museum or something instead of trying to sell it? also, 400 other historic artifacts sounds like a lot of stuff ๐Ÿ˜’. are we really gonna collect everything? it's just gonna be cluttering up our homes ๐Ÿ . and what's with the "secret treasure map" thing ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ? that just seems like marketing hype ๐Ÿค‘. i guess some ppl will wanna buy it just for the bragging rights ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ, but for me, it's just a bunch of old junk ๐Ÿ’”

๐Ÿค‘ I'm low-key salty about this copy of the Declaration of Independence hitting the market. Like, isn't it already old news that there's only one 'perfect' copy? You'd think we'd be more worried about preserving history than collecting it and selling it off for a pretty penny ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. And what's up with all these auctions popping up everywhere? Can't people just appreciate the historical significance without trying to buy it? ๐Ÿ’ธ Still, I guess if you're a die-hard collector, this could be the find of a lifetime ๐ŸŽ‰.
