Bulls welcome back some familiar faces, then run them out of the gym

The Bulls' return to the United Center was a bittersweet affair for Zach LaVine, who watched from the opposing bench as his former team fell short of victory. LaVine's emotional tribute video played on the scoreboard, followed by applause that seemed to bring him back to life. However, when he thumped his fist on his chest, it became clear that this was not the same thrill ride he once experienced playing for the Bulls.

LaVine's Kings team, led by 27 points from Matas Buzelis, played a game of catch-up throughout most of the contest before pulling away in the second half. The former Bull's return to his old stomping grounds came with some added meaning, as he acknowledged that Chicago was home for him.

While LaVine claimed it didn't feel like an "emotional" night, there were still flashes of nostalgia and what-ifs. His former teammates, including DeMar DeRozan, who had been traded away months prior to the deal that sent LaVine to Sacramento, seemed a bit more subdued in their post-game reaction.

The emotional return was on full display from Bulls coach Billy Donovan, however. The Hall of Fame coach couldn't help but speak fondly of his former players as people, not just competitors.

LaVine's Kings team had other business to attend to – namely trying to keep up with Buzelis, who is a rising star and an integral part of the Bulls' offense. Despite LaVine's presence, Buzelis stole the show, scoring 27 points in his first meeting against his former coach.

The evening left many reflecting on the what-ifs – could this team have been a contender last season? Could they have made another deep run into the playoffs?

As for Donovan, he acknowledged that while his team will never know what could've been, there's still so much to be proud of. LaVine and DeRozan might not have had the ending they wanted in Chicago, but the bond they formed with their teammates remains strong.

In this emotional night at the United Center, there were moments of pure joy – like Vucevic's excited reunion with his former teammates.

I watched that game last night and it was really emotional for Zach LaVine... 🤔 He seemed so lost in the moment when he saw his old team up on the court 😊. You could tell he still had a lot of love for Chicago, but also some lingering feelings about leaving. It's funny how things like that can bring back nostalgia and what-ifs... 🙄 I felt bad for DeMar DeRozan, though - it seemed like his heart wasn't in the post-game celebration 😔.

But you know what really stood out to me was Billy Donovan's reaction? The guy is a total class act! 💯 He just radiated warmth and appreciation for his former players. It made me appreciate him even more as a coach... 🤓 I'm glad LaVine is doing well in Sacramento, but it's clear that Chicago will always be home to him ❤️.

It was defo a weird vibe watching LaVine back at the UC 🤔. He seemed really humble about it too. I mean, you can tell he's still got that Bulls pride in him 💪. But for me, it was sad to see DeRozan just chillin' on the sidelines - I wish they could've made one more push for a title. 😔 The game itself was pretty intense, especially with Buzelis tearing it up. He's definitely someone to watch! 👀 Coach Donovan was super nice about it too, still talking about his former players like family... I guess that's just how you stay classy 🙏. And can we talk about Vucevic's reaction when he saw his old mates? Priceless 😆!

I don’t usually comment but... I think it’s wild how much emotions run deep when Zach LaVine played for the Bulls. Even though he’s not part of the team anymore, it was still clear that Chicago holds a special place in his heart. And you can tell how much his former teammates miss him too - like DeMar DeRozan's subdued reaction after getting traded away. 🤔 But at the same time, Billy Donovan showing love and respect for his old players as people is really beautiful to see. It’s clear that the bond they formed is still strong even if their playing days are different now. And Vucevic's excited reunion with his former teammates was just pure joy to watch - it’s amazing how much happiness a simple game can bring! 😊

🤔 The thing is, Zach LaVine coming back to the Bulls' place was super sentimental, but it didn't feel like that same electric vibe he used to have playing for them 🏀. I mean, when he watched his old team lose from the other side of the court, you could tell it wasn't just about the game – there were some 'what-ifs' and nostalgia moments that aren't exactly easy to shake off 😔.

But what struck me was how Billy Donovan reacted to all this, being so genuinely proud of his former players as people, not just teammates 🙏. It's like he knew this wasn't about winning or losing anymore, but about the connections they made during their time together ❤️.

And can we talk about Matas Buzelis for a sec? He totally stole the show that night with 27 points and it was awesome to see him kill it against his former coach 🤩. It's crazy how one player can make such a big impact, especially when they're still relatively new to the league 🚀.

It's always gonna be interesting to speculate about what could've been for the Bulls, but at the end of the day, there's so much pride to take away from that game 🙌. LaVine and DeRozan might not have had the ending they wanted in Chicago, but their bond with the team remains strong 💕.

I felt so bad for Zach LaVine last night 🤕 watching his old team lose while he was on the other side. He looked so happy to be back home, but it wasn't the same fire that drove him when he played here. I'm glad Matas Buzelis had a big game and showed us what he's capable of - but man, DeMar DeRozan just looked so lost 🤔. Billy Donovan, on the other hand, was beaming with pride, even if it was for a team that didn't quite live up to expectations 😊. It's funny how these things can make you think about what could've been... maybe next season will bring some answers 🤞

man I'm telling you, it was all a setup 😒. Like LaVine thinks he just walked back into his old life, but really he's still got that "former Bull" stigma hanging over him 👊. And what's up with DeRozan? He seems so fake in his post-game interview 🤔. Maybe they're trying to tell us something about the trade... like it was all for show 💸. And have you seen Buzelis' stats? That guy is too good to be true 🤯. I'm telling you, this Bulls team is just a smokescreen for their real agenda: to distract us from the real issues in the league 🤑.

I gotta say, it seems pretty obvious that Zach LaVine was feeling some type of way when he played against his old team. I mean, you can see the emotions on his face, especially when he thumped his chest and stuff. But at the same time, it's not like he's gonna be jumping up and down saying "we shoulda won" or anything like that 🤔.

It's cool that the Bulls gave him a tribute video and all, but let's be real, they're still a team without their star players. Billy Donovan is trying to spin it as something positive, but it's hard not to think about what could've been if LaVine was still in Chicago 👀.

And what's up with DeRozan being so subdued? You'd think he'd have some type of reaction to seeing his old teammate and coach on the opposing team 🤷‍♂️. Anyway, it's all good, I guess. The Bulls are moving forward, and LaVine is doing his thing in Sacramento 💪.

you know what was really cool about zach lavine's return to chicago? it wasn't just about him coming back to play for his old team... it was about the sense of community and camaraderie that still exists between the players, coaches & staff 🤝 especially with billy donovan being all emotional and stuff about his former players 😊. like, it's not always easy for teams to maintain that bond when everyone gets traded or moves on, but it looks like chicago is a special place where those connections run deep 💛

🤔 The return game for Zach LaVine was defo a weird vibe... I mean, he's still got that fire in him but it wasn't the same spark as when he played for the Bulls 🐴. And can we talk about how DeRozan and the rest of the team were so subdued? Like they were just going through the motions? 😐 The only guy who seemed to care was Billy Donovan, bless his heart... he's still got love for those guys even though it didn't end well 🤗. But seriously, what if they had made another deep run in the playoffs? Would we be seeing a different outcome today? So many what-ifs and maybes 🤦‍♂️.

the thing that really got me is how bittersweet it was for zach lavine to return to chicago 🤔 his team ended up winning but he couldn't just let go of the past it was like he was still playing for the bulls, not for himself and his new squad 👕 but on a more positive note, i loved how coach donovan spoke so fondly of his former players as people, that's what being in the game is all about ❤️

🤔 I'm low-key impressed by how chill Zach LaVine was about coming back to Chicago after getting traded. Like, he could've been salty or something but instead he just went out and played a solid game 🏀. And yeah, Matas Buzelis is for real, who knew he had it in him? 😲 I'm not gonna lie though, watching LaVine play against his old team was kinda awkward, especially when he had to sit on the bench 🛋️. But hey, at least DeRoZan and Billy Donovan were cool about it, no hard feelings there 👍

🤔 I think it's super cool that Zach LaVine got to return home and have an emotional tribute video on the scoreboard 🎥! It shows he still cares about the Bulls and Chicago, even though things didn't work out for him there. The fact that his former teammates seemed a bit down afterwards is kinda sad, but Billy Donovan's comments made me smile - it's clear they've got love for each other, win or lose 💕. I'm rooting for LaVine's new team now, and Vucevic's reunion with his old squad was pure magic ✨!

🤔 so i'm thinking, maybe lavine's emotions were a bit overrated? idk if he was really that down about leaving chicago or not. it sounds like he played the nostalgic card just to get some sympathy from the crowd 🙄 and let's be real, deRozan got traded away months before lavine left so that's not exactly a reunion 🤷‍♂️. plus, lavine's kings team seemed way more chill about the whole thing. maybe he was just trying to stir up drama for some extra attention 🤑

🤔 so LaVine says it didn't feel "emotional" but I'm calling BS on that one... his team gets destroyed and he's still gonna celebrate like they won the championship 🏆 meanwhile Buzelis steals the show for the Bulls and gets 27 points in just his first game back 🤯 I need to see a box score or stats on this guy, who is he? why is he scoring so many points? some sources pls? 👀

idk why ppl r so down about LaVine coming back to chicago 🤷‍♂️ i mean yeah he was pretty emotional but that's cos it's not the same as being part of the team anymore, he's still got love for the city tho 💕 and btw i think Buzelis is overrated, matas is just a backup in my opinion 🤑

🏀😔 man i felt so bad for zach lavine watchin him walk outta the united center 4 the last time 🤗 but it was awesome seein him back in chicago again even tho it wasn't the same vibe 4 him now 🤷‍♂️ he's doin his thing in sacramento & all we can hope is he gets a ring w/ those kings soon ⚡️ & i gotta say, matas buzelis is somethin else 😲 27 points 1st time out, that's insane! 🤯

🤔 I felt bad for Zach LaVine watching from the other side 🚫, he was so hyped to be back but it didn't feel the same 💔. I think it's cool that they showed him a tribute video on the scoreboard though 😊, gave me chills too. And what's up with DeRozan being all quiet post-game 🤷‍♂️? LaVine and Derozan did have some great times together in Chicago 👫, but you can tell it still hurts 💔.

Bull's coach Billy Donovan seems like a super cool dude 🙏, he's got nothing but love for his former players 😊. I'm glad Vucevic was excited to see his old buddies 😆, that's what it's all about in the end! LaVine and DeRozan might not have ended up with Chicago, but they're still part of the family 👪.

What if Bulls could've made a deeper run in the playoffs last season? 🤔 is the million-dollar question. But we can't know for sure, and Billy's already moving on with pride 💪.

I'm still trying to process the whole thing, it was like watching a different person on the court... Zach LaVine is literally shining bright over in Sacramento, but you can still see the ghost of his Chicago past hanging around him... and DeMar DeRozan's absence hit hard, I felt so bad for those guys, they're trying to build something new in Chicago but it's just not the same without him and Zach together... Billy Donovan was beaming with pride on that bench tho, it was like he couldn't help but reminisce about all the good times with his old team... and Matas Buzelis is NEXT LEVEL, I mean, 27 points against his former coach? That's some impressive stuff 🤯💥 Vucevic's reunion with his teammates was just the cherry on top of an already emotional night... it's funny how a game can make you think about all the what-ifs and could've beens... but honestly, I'm just happy to see LaVine thriving in Sacramento, he deserves it 💕

omg i felt so bad for zach lavine watching his old team lose from the opposing bench 🤕, but it was clear he was trying to stay positive and focus on the win 😊. i love how he acknowledged that chicago is still home for him though ❤️, but it's like... you can't help but wonder what could've been with that trade 🤔. de mar deRozan seemed a bit down too, which is kinda expected considering they were traded away from each other months prior 😔. billy donovan tho, he's just the best 💕, always speaking so fondly of his players as people. and matas buzelis, wow 27 points in his first game back against his old coach? that's wild 🔥. can we talk about how this team was robbed of a contender spot last season though? 🤷‍♂️
