Brandon Johnson, LA mayor agree to food wager over Sunday’s playoff game

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and her counterpart from Chicago, Brandon Johnson, have taken their sports rivalry to a new level by agreeing on a food-based wager over Sunday's NFL playoff game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Chicago Bears.

If the Bears emerge victorious at Soldier Field, Bass will treat Johnson to a plate of taquitos from Cielito Lindo in Los Angeles. Conversely, if the Rams win, Johnson will send Bass an "Eli's Bear Down" cheesecake from the iconic Chicago dessert shop Eli's Cheesecake.

Chicago Mayor Johnson made it clear that his city is at the top of its sports teams and food scene game, suggesting that Angelenos can take comfort in a sweet treat after their team loses. However, Los Angeles Mayor Bass is confident that her Rams will come out on top and is looking forward to enjoying some delicious taquitos as a result.

Eli's Cheesecake President Marc Schulman highlighted the company's long history with Chicago sports teams, including its involvement in celebrating the 1986 Super Bowl. According to Schulman, Sunday's wager continues that tradition of supporting local sports heroes through great food.

🤣 I love how mayors are getting down to earth and having some fun! It's awesome that they're using their rivalry to poke fun at each other in a lighthearted way 🍴💪. But for real though, who can blame LA or Chicago? Their sports teams are on fire right now! 🏈 I'm all about trying new foods too, especially if it's taquitos and cheesecake... that sounds like an amazing combo! 😋 If I'm being honest tho, I'd be a little nervous if I were Brandon Johnson, eating Eli's famous cheesecake after the Bears lose 😅. Los Angeles Rams or Chicago Bears, can't go wrong either way! 🏆

Sounds like Bass and Johnson are just trying to one up each other. I mean, who doesn't love a good plate of taquitos or cheesecake? 🍴👌 It's all in good fun, but I'm kinda rooting for the Rams too. Maybe Bass will get her taquitos after all 😊. The thing that got me was when Johnson said Chicago is at the top of its sports teams and food scene game... like it's a competition? 🤔 Either way, I love that Eli's Cheesecake has been around since 1986. That's dedication to supporting local sports heroes 👏

🤔 So I think this is a pretty cool way for the mayors to show some friendly competition and bring their cities together, especially when it comes to something as fun as food 🍴. I mean, who doesn't love taquitos or cheesecake? 😋 It's great that Mayor Bass is feeling confident about her Rams winning, but at the end of the day, Sunday's game is going to be intense and anyone can come out on top 💪. And hey, if the Bears do win, I'm sure the "Eli's Bear Down" cheesecake will be a hit in Chicago 🍰. Maybe this is just what LA and Chicago need - a little bit of sports rivalry with a side of delicious food 🍔👍

I love how mayors from different cities can actually put their rivalry to good use 🤣. I'm a bit biased towards LA Rams but I gotta admit, the thought of Brandon Johnson's cheesecake is super tempting 🍰👍. On a more serious note, it's awesome that local businesses like Cielito Lindo and Eli's Cheesecake are getting involved in this food-based wager 🎉. Who wouldn't want to try some delicious taquitos or cheesecake after the game? Los Angeles and Chicago really know how to have fun with sports rivalries! 💖

Man 😂 this is wild! Food wager between mayors? It's like they're kids having a game night bet 🍿👊. Bass thinks the Rams are gonna crush it and get her some sick taquitos 🌯️, but Johnson's all like "hold up, Bears got this!" 😎. I gotta admit, Eli's Cheesecake has been around since forever, that's some serious history 💪. It's cool to see Chicago and LA showing love for their sports teams and food scene, even if it's just a little lighthearted competition 🏈👍. Bass is gonna be all smiles if the Rams win, but Johnson's got this Chicago spirit, you feel? 😊

🤩 I'm all about this sports and food rivalry! Los Angeles and Chicago goin' head-to-head on everything, from football to food - it's like the ultimate sibling rivalry 💁‍♀️. Bass and Johnson are bringin' the heat with these wagers, showin' us that they're not just mayors, but also sports fans at heart 🏈. And can we talk about taquitos and cheesecake?! I mean, who doesn't love a good plate of crispy, flavorful taquitos or a rich, creamy slice of cheesecake? 🤤 It's all about the braggin' rights now - whoever loses has to treat the other mayor to some sweet (or savory) treats. This is what makes politics so interesting - it's not just about policies and laws, but also about personality and culture 🎨. I'm low-key excited for Sunday's game, and high-key excited for those taquitos and cheesecakes! 🍰👀

I'm loving this food rivalry between the LA and Chicago mayors! 🤣 Who knew politics could be so deliciously competitive? 😂 I think it's awesome that they're having fun with it and showing some spirit for their teams. But, let's be real, as a parent, my kid is already stressing about which team will win... like, can't we just focus on getting them to eat their veggies instead of worrying about taquitos?! 🤣😂 Anyway, I'm kinda rooting for the Rams, but mainly because I think it'll be a sweet consolation prize for Bass! 🎉

🤔 I mean, a food-based wager between mayors? Sounds like a fun idea, but is it really about the game or just a marketing stunt for those sweet cheesecakes and taquitos 🍰🌮? Either way, I'm not holding my breath for LA to take down Chicago in the NFL playoffs. And who knows, maybe Bass will end up with a stomachache from eating too many of those spicy taquitos 😅. On a more serious note, it's cool that Eli's Cheesecake is still going strong and has such a rich history with Chicago sports teams 🙌. Maybe I'll just stick to my own snacks while watching the game... or maybe not 🏈👍

Umm yeah, I mean, a food-based wager between mayors is kinda cute 😊, but let's be real, it's just a publicity stunt 📺. Like, is this really how you resolve inter-city politics? 🤷‍♂️ A plate of taquitos or an Eli's cheesecake isn't gonna change the fact that Chicago has some awesome food scenes and LA is still trying to find its own identity in terms of grub 🍴. But hey, at least it's a sweetener for the losing team... literally 🍰. Can we please focus on more substance than just sports rivalries and snacks? 🤔

Man I love this rivalry between LA and ChiTown, it's getting more entertaining by the minute 🤣. The mayor's wager is a genius move, who doesn't love taquitos and cheesecake?! 🌯🍰 It's like they're saying "Hey we may not have the best sports team right now, but our food game is on point". I gotta root for Bass, my Rams are gonna crush it this Sunday and she'll get her taquitos 👍. The fact that Eli's Cheesecake has been around since '86 is crazy, they must be proud to be a part of Chicago sports history 🏆. Bring on the game, bring on the food... it's gonna be a wild ride! 😂

omg u guys i just cant even!! 😂 so apparently mayors bass & johnson are having a food fight over who's better at sports?? 🤣 like how cute is this?! 💕 i personally think the taquitos from cielito lindo r gonna win this bet, lol bass got this! 💪 and omg elis cheesecake sounds soooo good 🍰👀 has anyone tried it? 🤔
