Border Patrol agent shoots and kills man in Minnesota, officials say

Federal Border Patrol agent shoots and kills 37-year-old intensive care nurse Alex Jeffrey Pretti in Minneapolis, sparking outrage over what many see as unjustified use of force. The incident occurred during a protest against the federal government's immigration enforcement tactics. Pretti, who had participated in protests following the killing of another protester Renee Good just days earlier, was shot multiple times after allegedly resisting efforts to disarm him.

Eyewitnesses describe the scene as chaotic, with protesters being tear-gassed and pepper-sprayed by law enforcement. Video footage shows federal agents surrounding Pretti after he appears to be defending a person who had been pushed to the ground by immigration officials. An officer then shoves Pretti to the ground, and he is subsequently pepper-sprayed before shots are fired.

The Department of Homeland Security claims that Pretti was shot after resisting efforts to disarm him, but no evidence supports this account. Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino defends the actions of his agent, who has been serving for eight years with extensive training as a range safety officer and less lethal officer.

Meanwhile, protesters are demanding justice and calling for an end to what they see as unjustified immigration enforcement tactics in Minnesota. Minneapolis residents have taken to the streets multiple times since January 7, when Good was killed by ICE agent Jonathan Ross during a traffic stop. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office has not yet released its findings on Good's death.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has called for state authorities to lead the investigation into Pretti's shooting, saying "the federal government cannot be trusted to lead this investigation." The incident comes as tensions between protesters and law enforcement escalate in Minneapolis.

This is getting out of hand ๐Ÿคฏ. I'm all for peace protests, but come on, can't we just talk about these issues without turning violent? I mean, Pretti was an innocent guy who got caught up in the chaos... 37 years old and shot multiple times, it's just not right ๐Ÿ˜”. And what's with this "resisting efforts to disarm" excuse from the Border Patrol? It sounds like a load of BS ๐Ÿ™„. I'm not saying the agent didn't have reason to fear for their safety, but did they really need to shoot? There should be de-escalation techniques in place, not just guns ๐Ÿ‘Š. And now everyone's calling for justice and accountability... can we please just focus on finding out what really happened here ๐Ÿค”?

omg this is soooo messed up!!! ๐Ÿคฏ like i cant even believe what happened to alex jeffrey pretti ๐Ÿ˜ญ he was just a regular person trying to do his job and protect someone else, and then boom shot ๐Ÿ’€ the cops say hes resisting arrest but theres no way that makes sense ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ and whats with all these protests and law enforcement clashing ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ i mean im not against immigration reform or anything but cannt we just talk about it like civilized people? ๐Ÿค” also what about the other protester who got killed just days ago? didnt they learn anythin from that incident? ๐Ÿ˜•

Man this is a tough one ๐Ÿค”... I think we need to talk about the balance between safety and justice here. We can't just assume that a law enforcement agent's word is gospel, you know? I mean, if an officer says someone was resisting disarm, but there's no evidence to back it up... isn't that kinda like assuming your own story without proof? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ We gotta be careful not to jump to conclusions or assume the worst about people. The fact is, this guy was shot in the middle of a chaotic scene and we don't even know for sure what happened leading up to it. We need to let the investigation run its course before we start passing judgment on anyone.

And at the same time, we gotta acknowledge that the system's got some serious flaws when it comes to police accountability. I mean, if the governor has to step in and say "hey, federal government can't be trusted with this"... that's a problem. We need to make sure our law enforcement is being held to high standards, not just because of what they do on the job, but also because of how we respond to situations like this. Can't just shoot someone and then claim they were resisting disarm without looking into it further. We gotta be better than that. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

This is so bloody frustrating ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿšจ! I mean, think about it, Alex Jeffrey Pretti was just trying to protect someone who was being pushed around by immigration officials, and then suddenly he's being pepper-sprayed and shot multiple times. That's not justified in the slightest. The fact that the Department of Homeland Security is claiming he resisted disarming efforts is just a load of nonsense ๐Ÿ™„. We don't need some fancy training or badge to know when someone is being unreasonable, right?

And what really gets me is how the Border Patrol Commander is defending his agent's actions as if they're perfectly reasonable. Eight years with "extensive training" doesn't suddenly make you invincible, mate! The fact that Pretti was wearing a vest and had no gun on him at all just goes to show that this wasn't about protecting anyone or anything, it was just an excuse for some agent to flex his power.

We need to get to the bottom of this, and fast. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is already calling for state authorities to lead the investigation, which is a great step forward. We can't let the federal government just sweep this under the rug or make excuses for their agents' actions. Pretti's family deserves justice, and so do all those protesters who are just trying to stand up for what they believe in ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘Š.

I'm literally shook by what happened to Alex Jeffrey Pretti ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ’”. I mean, an ICU nurse getting shot multiple times during a protest? That's just insane ๐Ÿ˜ฒ. And the fact that they claim he was resisting disarming efforts but no one has any evidence for that... come on ๐Ÿ™„. It's like they're trying to cover something up.

The way those federal agents were tear-gassing and pepper-spraying protesters beforehand is also super concerning ๐Ÿ˜ท. It feels like they were just looking for an excuse to use force, you know? And now the governor is calling for state authorities to lead the investigation... that's not gonna make a difference in my opinion ๐Ÿค”. We need real accountability here, not just some half-hearted response from the state.

The fact that Pretti was just trying to defend someone who'd been pushed to the ground by immigration officials... it's just so tragic ๐Ÿ˜ญ. I mean, what's going on with this country? When does enough finally become enough? ๐Ÿคฏ

come on guys, another incident like this and nothing changes ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. i mean, what's next? a cop shoots an unarmed protestor and it's just brushed off as 'self-defense'? this guy was no match for the feds, he got caught in the middle of chaos and they took him out ๐Ÿ’€. and now you're telling me that 8 years of training doesn't make him qualified to shoot a human being? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ it's all just so messed up. what really bothers me is that no one's holding these cops accountable for their actions ๐Ÿš”. we're still stuck in this cycle of violence and it's only going to keep happening if we don't start demanding better ๐Ÿ‘Š

๐Ÿค• I'm literally shaking thinking about what happened to Alex Jeffrey Pretti... 37 years old and a nurse too! You can't even imagine the pain his family is going through right now. It's like, what was he doing that was so bad? He was just trying to stand up for something he believed in and get hurt? This is insane. And yeah, I'm with Governor Tim Walz on this one - it's clear the feds don't know how to handle protests without going rogue. More police accountability needed ASAP ๐Ÿš”๐Ÿ’ฅ

man... this is just so messed up ๐Ÿค•. I don't think we should jump to conclusions about what really happened here, but at the same time, it's hard not to question whether things got out of hand. I'm all for people exercising their rights to protest and express themselves, but no one deserves to get shot in the line of duty. ๐Ÿค”

The whole thing just feels like a perfect storm of chaos and mistrust between law enforcement and protesters. I'm worried that our society is at a breaking point here. We need some real answers about what went down and how we can work towards healing and finding common ground. ๐Ÿ’”

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’ฅ this is just so messed up, cant believe some cops have no chill ๐Ÿ™„, i mean we all know immigration laws are complicated but theres gotta be a better way than shooting ppl in the street like alex wasnt even armed or resisting arrest lol what does 8 yrs of training as a range safety officer do if u still manage to kill someone by accident ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

and omg dont even get me started on this whole tear gas and pepper spray situation ๐Ÿ˜ท, that sounds super scary and dehumanizing, protesters are just trying to make their voices heard but cops keep reacting like they're some kind of threat ๐Ÿ’ช meanwhile governor walz is right ppl deserve better than the feds handling investigations

i feel so bad for alexs family and friends ๐Ÿค•, death by cop isnt something that should be taking place in our society and we need to do better ๐Ÿ‘Ž

I'm literally shook about what happened to Alex Jeffrey Pretti ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ’”. On one hand, I get why people are upset - it seems like the agent was just waiting for an excuse to use force, you know? ๐Ÿ˜’ The whole thing with him being a range safety officer and all that jazz sounds like just an excuse to be a hardliner on immigration. But at the same time... I don't know, man. If he was really resisting arrest, wouldn't there have been more witnesses or something? ๐Ÿค” And what's up with the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office not releasing their findings yet? That's just delaying justice and stuff. On the other hand, maybe Pretti was being super aggressive and it was a justified use of force? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ But honestly, I don't know... it all seems really murky to me. Can we just get to the bottom of this already? ๐Ÿ’ฅ

omg just saw that on reddit ๐Ÿคฏ can't believe what happened to Alex Jeffrey Pretti was like they say justice will be served but I'm not feeling it ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ he's an innocent man who was just trying to protect someone and now he's gone ๐Ÿ˜ข need to know more about the surveillance footage tho

๐Ÿค” This whole thing is wild, fam... I mean, what even happened here? So, Alex Pretti gets shot 37 times by a Border Patrol agent who was trying to disarm him after he allegedly resisted. But let's be real, the video footage doesn't exactly show that, right? It looks more like the cop just decided to take matters into his own hands and started spraying pepper spray and then shooting. And now we're supposed to believe that Pretti was just trying to defend someone else? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

And what's with the training of this agent, anyway? Eight years on the job? That's not enough time to learn how to de-escalate a situation like this. I mean, I'm no expert or anything, but it seems like this whole thing was just a big mess from the start. The governor is right to want state authorities to lead the investigation - we need more transparency here. And what about all these protests that are happening in Minneapolis? They're not gonna calm down until justice is served, and I don't blame 'em for being upset. ๐Ÿ˜ค

man... what's going on with these protests? ๐Ÿค• it just feels like another case of police brutality that's not being held accountable. i mean, 37 years old nurse just trying to make a difference, and he ends up getting shot multiple times for "resisting" or whatever the fed says, but honestly who gets shot in self-defense when they're literally surrounded by people? ๐Ÿค” it's like they want him dead.

and can we talk about how this all went down with the video footage? ๐Ÿ“น that officer shoving him to the ground and then pepper-spraying him before shooting him... it looks super suspicious to me. and don't even get me started on the fact that no one knows why Pretti was being targeted in the first place.

i'm just so tired of these senseless deaths, and i wish protesters could have a more peaceful way to express themselves without getting met with such aggression from law enforcement ๐Ÿ˜”. we need to demand justice for Alex Jeffrey Pretti and for all those who've been affected by police brutality ๐Ÿ’”

OMG what a bloody nightmare ๐Ÿคฏ!!! I mean can u imagine being mown down by a cop in the middle of a protest?! Alex Jeffrey Pretti was just a normal guy trying to make a difference, & now he's dead ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ˜จ The whole thing is so messed up! Law enforcement was already causing chaos with tear gas & pepper spray, & then they have the nerve to say it was self-defense? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Give me a break! I don't trust the official story one bit. It's like they're covering something up. ๐Ÿ˜’

I'm so angry about this... how can u even justify shooting someone who's resisting? It's just not right. Alex was a nurse, for crying out loud! He's got a heart of gold, not some kinda troublemaker trying to stir up trouble ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ This is why protests are so important - we need to speak out against injustice & hold people in power accountable.

The fact that the governor is calling for state authorities to take over the investigation is about time... I mean, can u trust the federal government to even get it right? They're always getting it wrong ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ The people of Minneapolis deserve answers, & they deserve justice. This whole thing needs a thorough probe, ASAP ๐Ÿ’ฅ

This is super sad ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ˜จ. I cant even imagine what Alex Jeffrey Pretti was going through that day ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. He was just trying to help his fellow protester and protect someone who was being pushed around ๐Ÿคฏ. The use of force by the federal agents is just too much ๐Ÿ’ฅ. It's like they lost control of the situation completely ๐Ÿšจ.

The fact that no one has been held accountable for Renee Good's death is still giving me vibes ๐Ÿ˜ก. And now this? It's just not fair ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. The protesters are right, these immigration enforcement tactics need to change ๐Ÿ“ˆ. We need more understanding and less violence ๐Ÿ”ฅ.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is on the right track by saying that state authorities should lead the investigation ๐Ÿ’ผ. We need answers about what really happened that day ๐Ÿค”. And we need justice for Alex Jeffrey Pretti's family ๐Ÿ‘ช. This is a wake-up call for us all to think critically about police brutality and systemic racism ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’ฅ.

๐Ÿค• OMG this is so unfair! I cant believe an innocent person like Alex Jeffrey Pretti got shot by a border patrol agent during a protest. He was just trying to help someone who had been pushed down, and the next thing you know he's being pepper-sprayed and then shot multiple times. That's just not right ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ.

I'm so angry that the department is saying it was self defense when really there's no evidence to back that up. It sounds like a classic case of "use your power, don't use common sense". The fact that the border patrol commander is defending his agent despite all this makes me even more furious ๐Ÿ˜ก.

We need justice for Alex and his family. We can't just let the federal government get away with this kind of thing. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is on the right track by calling for state authorities to lead the investigation, but I wish he'd do something faster โฑ๏ธ. This incident is just another example of how our justice system is broken ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

this is getting outta hand ๐Ÿคฏ...can't believe a cop just killed some nurse who was defending someone...shouldn't we be able to protest without getting shot at? ๐Ÿšซ federal agents are supposed to protect us, not kill us if they disagree with our views...and what's up with the border patrol agent having 8 yrs of training and still shooting an unarmed person? ๐Ÿค”...the gov should really re-examine their immigration policies, this kind of thing is just gonna keep happening unless we make a change...and btw, what even is the point of the range safety officer training if it's not going to stop them from using lethal force? ๐Ÿ˜ก
