Blue Jays lose 8-year veteran to White Sox in free agency: Report

Blue Jays Lose Promising Reliever in Free Agency, White Sox Land Crafty Veteran

In a shocking move, the Toronto Blue Jays have lost one of their most promising relievers to free agency. Ryan Borucki, who had returned to the team just months prior, has reportedly signed with the Chicago White Sox on a minor-league contract.

Borucki's departure marks a swift end to his 10-year tenure in Toronto, where he was once considered a prized prospect after being drafted as a 15th-round pick. He spent nearly eight years with the Blue Jays before leaving via assignment in 2022, and was subsequently traded to the Seattle Mariners and Pittsburgh Pirates. Despite a brief stint back with the Blue Jays this past season, Borucki failed to secure a postseason roster spot.

The veteran lefty reliever, known for his crafty approach and impressive statistics - a 4.12 ERA and 214 strikeouts in 256 innings pitched - will now attempt to revive his career with the White Sox. Chicago's willingness to take a chance on Borucki underscores their efforts to bolster their bullpen, which made some significant strides last year despite finishing the season with a record-low win total.

Borucki's path forward with the White Sox is uncertain, but it's clear he'll be competing for a spot in the bullpen during spring training. Should he fail to secure a major-league roster spot, he may still have options, including an assignment to Triple-A.

🤔 honestly, I'm not buying all the hype around Ryan Borucki... 4.12 ERA is pretty standard for a reliever, and those 214 strikeouts? that's just what teams expect from their veteran pitchers 🙄. The Blue Jays are getting taken advantage of by White Sox's willingness to take a chance on him, imo... maybe they're trying to fill a roster spot with some decent numbers rather than actually building for the future 💸. Borucki's 10-year tenure was already a pretty big risk, and now it looks like he's just gonna be another guy trying to scrape together a career with a team that's not exactly loaded with talent 😐. Chicago might get lucky, but I think this is more about White Sox trying to appear competitive than actually being the best they can be 🤷‍♂️.

OMG 😱 what happened 2 @BlueJays?? I'm like devastated rn Borucki was my guy!!! 🤩 He's been with them 4 so long and they just let him go 2 free agency? 💔 I mean, he's still got a lot of talent, but ugh Chicago's gonna have to work harder 2 get him 2 shine on their team lol. Can't believe they're taking a chance on him tho, gotta give 'em props for that 🙌 At least they'll be tryna fix their bullpen, unlike some teams that can't even get it right 🤣

man... can't believe our boys lost ryan borucki 💔🌟. that guy was supposed to be the future of the bullpen, now he's just gonna try and prove himself all over again in chicago 🤦‍♂️. white Sox are giving him a shot, which is cool, but it's still sad seeing him go 💕. 10 years with the blue jays, what could've been? 🤔

Wow 🤯 the Blue Jays just lost one of their top relievers and I'm thinking they should've made him an offer 🤑 interesting move by White Sox tho, will this be the start of something good for them? 👀

🤔 so like what just happened here? guy was supposed to be big thing for blue jays but now he's gone to white sox on super minor contract 📝 i dont get why he didnt stay in toronto if he wanted to stay... seems like he had it pretty good there and then suddenly he's off to chicago where they gotta prove themselves all over again 💪 what about the stats though? 4.12 era is still decent for a guy who's trying to make a comeback 📊 source on this contract tho please

This is a huge blow for the Blue Jays 🤕, losing a guy who was so close to being a top-notch reliever. I'm not surprised though, Borucki's career trajectory has been all over the place - one minute he's a rising star, next he's struggling to find his spot in the bullpen. The White Sox are taking a risk on him, but it's clear they're desperate for some depth in their bullpen 🤔. Borucki's numbers aren't exactly lights out, but there's definitely value in a crafty guy who can get guys out 🎯. I'm curious to see how he'll do with the Sox - if he can make some key pitches and stay healthy, maybe we'll be looking at him as a setup man for their bullpen 💪

So the Blue Jays are getting roasted on social media 🤦‍♂️... I mean, not really, but it's like they're playing the blame game - was it their fault Borucki couldn't find his groove again? 🤔 Were they just holding onto him for too long and ultimately lost him to another team? 🤷‍♂️ This could be a teachable moment for management to re-evaluate their roster construction strategy, maybe prioritize youth over veteran experience in certain roles. And on the other hand, the White Sox are making a savvy move by giving Borucki a second chance - it's like they're trying to send a message that veterans still have value in this league 🙌.
