Bears Promote Passer to OC Role to Replace Doles, Says Coach Johnson.
Bears coach Ben Johnson has decided to retain the services of passing game coordinator Press Taylor as the new offensive coordinator after his predecessor Declan Doyle left for the Ravens just a little while ago.
The Bears have a relatively simple situation when it comes to changing coordinators, since they use an existing system and he is their play-caller. This will prevent any major disruption in the team's offense.
Taylor, who was the Jaguars' coordinator from 2022-24 before joining Johnson's staff, won a Super Bowl with the Eagles as assistant quarterbacks coach in 2017. When asked about his experience working with quarterback Caleb Williams and what role Taylor plays on game days, he replied that his job is to feed information to coaches.
Taylor has been with the Bears since last season and worked alongside Doyle and Johnson to fine-tune the team's offense. The new OC will be able to pick up where Doyle left off and get back into a routine right away.
The Bears are not expected to need any significant changes in their offense, given that Taylor is well-versed in the system and Johnson oversees everything from play-calling to personnel decisions.
Taylor began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Tulsa before becoming an assistant coach for the Eagles under coaches Chip Kelly and Doug Pederson. He has extensive experience working with quarterbacks, having led the team's offense since 2018.
The Bengals are coached by Taylorβs older brother Zac.
