Australia's social media ban launched with barely a hitch – but the real test is still to come

OMG, like I'm soooo loving this Aussie government for finally taking action against those social media giants 🙌🏽! It's about time they stepped up and protected their youth from all that cyber bullying and mental health drama 😩. I mean, can you even imagine being a teenager in 2025 with all that pressure on them to be perfect online? No thanks! 💁‍♀️

Anyway, I'm curious to see how this ban goes down and if it actually makes a difference in the long run 🤔. I do hope they're tracking those data points closely to make sure it's not just some myth that social media is bad for teens 😂. And I gotta give props to Anika Wells for all the work she did promoting this law at the UN, girl power! 💪

Rural areas are like a whole different story, though... don't they have internet? 🤷‍♀️ It's all about access and equity, right? Education is key too, but can you imagine if all these young folks didn't even know how to handle social media in the first place 😕. That's just a recipe for disaster!

Anyway, I'm super stoked to see Australia taking the lead on this one 🎉! Who knows, maybe it'll inspire other countries to follow suit 💯. Fingers crossed, anyway 🤞!

I'm curious how this law is gonna hold up in the long run 🤔. I mean, banning under-16s from social media platforms might seem like a no-brainer, but what about those kids who don't have access to fast internet in rural areas? They're already at a disadvantage when it comes to online learning and staying connected with friends. And isn't education supposed to be key to helping teens handle social media responsibly? 🤷‍♀️

I also wonder if this law will create more problems than it solves. For example, what about kids who use VPNs or other methods to bypass the ban? Or those who rely on their parents' accounts to stay online? It's gonna be an interesting few years to watch and see how this law plays out 📊
