A$AP Rocky: Don't Be Dumb review – a charismatic, playful return, but it's no slam dunk

A$AP Rocky's Highly Anticipated Return, Don't Be Dumb, Is a Mixed Bag of Charm and Disappointment

Eight years is an eternity in the world of hip-hop, where A-listers such as Rocky's collaborator Tyler, the Creator are constantly pushing out new music. It's been that long since Rocky released his third album, Testing, which was met with lukewarm reception from critics and fans alike. In contrast to West's prolific output, Rocky has taken a more laid-back approach, leveraging his high-profile relationship with Rihanna and acting career to stay in the public eye.

Rocky's latest effort, Don't Be Dumb, attempts to bridge the gap between his experimental Testing and the straightforward sound that made him famous. While it succeeds in rekindling some of Rocky's signature charisma, it ultimately falls short of being a slam-dunk. The album is brash and fleet-footed, eschewing the avant-garde samples and singing from Testing in favor of a more energetic and playful vibe.

The guest list on Don't Be Dumb is impressive, featuring artists such as Hans Zimmer, Tyler, the Creator, and Jessica Pratt. However, Rocky remains the star of the show, and his presence alone makes the album worth listening to. Tracks like Stole Ya Flow, which doubles as a cheeky Drake diss, and Playa, which finds Rocky rapping with an avuncular tone, showcase the rapper's ability to craft catchy hooks and infectious beats.

Despite these high points, some sections of the album feel phoned-in lyrically, while others are overstuffed with production elements. The record's runtime feels a bit too long, suggesting that a more judicious edit would have improved the overall listening experience.

However, Don't Be Dumb is undoubtedly Rocky's strongest album since his debut, Long.Live.A$AP. He seems to have regained his sense of playfulness and swagger, which was noticeably absent from Testing. The album's moments of lethargy on tracks like Whiskey are mitigated by the overall sense of fun and energy that permeates the record.

Ultimately, fans who were underwhelmed by Testing can breathe a sigh of relief, as Don't Be Dumb represents a welcome return to form for A$AP Rocky. While it may not be a masterclass in hip-hop production or lyrical depth, it's an enjoyable listen that showcases Rocky's continued relevance and charisma.

A$AP Rocky's back and I'm glad to see he's still got the charm 🔥! Don't Be Dumb is a mixed bag, but you can't deny the guy's energy 💃. He's been out of the game for too long, so it's refreshing to hear him return with an album that's not entirely experimental (although some tracks are still weirdly cool 🤔). The guest list is insane, and I love how Rocky holds his own on most tracks 🙌. My only gripe is that the runtime feels a bit long - maybe he could've chopped off 20 minutes to make it shine even brighter ✂️. Still, fans of A$AP can rejoice; Don't Be Dumb is a welcome return to form 👏.

I'm low-key hyped about A$AP Rocky's new album Don't Be Dumb 🤩🎶! 8 years is a long time in the hip-hop game, but Rocky comes correct with this one 😎. He's got that charm again, but also tries to experiment and push boundaries, which isn't always successful 💭. The guest list is fire, btw 👏! Hans Zimmer and Tyler, the Creator bring some heat 🔥. But let's be real, it's Rocky's album, and he shines on tracks like Stole Ya Flow 🤣. Don't get me wrong, Testing wasn't the best, but this one feels like a return to form for A$AP - more playfulness, less phoned-in lyrics 🎵. I'm loving the energy and fun vibes throughout! 👍

🤔 I gotta say, 8 years is a looong time between albums, you feel? Like, A$AP Rocky's been keeping us on the hook with his side projects and acting gigs 🎬. Don't Be Dumb is definitely more energetic than Testing, but it's like he's trying to recapture that same magic without fully committing 💥. The guest list is fire tho 🔥! Hans Zimmer even shows up! But, at times, Rocky's lyrics feel a bit lazy and the production gets out of hand 🎵. Still, it's not all bad...he's definitely got his swagger back 😎, and that Stole Ya Flow track is straight flames 🔥🔪

I'm so stoked about A$AP Rocky's new album Don't Be Dumb! 😎 It's like, after 8 years, I was starting to think he'd lost his magic, but this record is a total banger 🤯! The production is fire 🔥, and Rocky's charisma is still on point 💁‍♂️. The collabs with Hans Zimmer and Tyler, the Creator are genius moves 🎵! What really got me was "Stole Ya Flow" - that Drake diss is EVERYTHING 😂. Sure, some tracks feel a bit meh lyrically, but overall, this album is a return to form for Rocky. It's like he's finally found his groove again 🌟. Don't be dumb and sleep on this one, trust me 👍!

OMG, u guys I'm low-key hyped 4 A$AP Rocky's new album Don't Be Dumb!!! 🤩 It's like, his return after 8 yrs is def a mixed bag, but in a good way? Like, he's still got that charm and charisma that made him famous, but also tries to do something different this time around. I love how it's more energetic and playful, reminds me of his old Long.Live.A$AP days 🎉 The collabs are on point too, especially with Hans Zimmer and Tyler the Creator! 💥 But like, some sections feel a bit lazy lyrically and the runtime is a bit long... idk, maybe just need to edit it or something 😴 Still, it's def a welcome return to form for Rocky, and fans who were meh on Testing can rejoice 🎉

idk why ppl were hyped about testing lol, a$ap rocky's been doing the same thing for years now 🤷‍♂️, but don't be dumb is still def a step in the right direction, i mean it's not like he went back to his old self or anything, he found this happy medium where he's still experimenting but also making music that's fun and catchy 😊. gotta give props to tyler the creator and hans zimmer tho, they brought some fire tracks to the table 👍

I'm so stoked to see A$AP Rocky back with Don't Be Dumb 🤩🎶! Eight years was a long wait, but I think he delivered a solid album that's got that special mix of charm and disappointment 😊. I mean, the guy's got charisma for days, and tracks like Stole Ya Flow are straight fire 🔥! The guest list is on point too, Hans Zimmer and Tyler, the Creator bring the heat 🤘.

But yeah, some sections feel a bit phoned-in lyrically, and the runtime could've been shorter ⏰. Still, it's an enjoyable listen that shows Rocky's still got it 💃. Testing was meh to me, but Don't Be Dumb is definitely his strongest album since Long.Live.A$AP 🙌. Fingers crossed he keeps this momentum going 👍!

I just listened to Don't Be Dumb by A$AP Rocky and I gotta say, its like he went back to his old self 🤩! The album's got a lot of energy and playfulness, especially with the collabs from Hans Zimmer and Tyler, the Creator. Tracks like Stole Ya Flow are straight fire 🔥. But, I feel like some parts can be kinda meh lyrically, and the production can get a bit too extra 🎶. It's still way better than Testing though, that one was a snooze fest 😴. Don't Be Dumb is a solid comeback album from Rocky, it shows he's still got it 💪!

omg, I'm so glad A$AP Rocky is back in the game 💥🎉! Don't Be Dumb might not be perfect, but it's defo a step in the right direction for him - all those years apart from music really showed 🕰️. I love how he's still got that swag and playfulness, especially on tracks like Stole Ya Flow 😂. And that guest list? Goals 🔥! But at the same time, I'm not impressed with some of the lyrics - feels a bit lazy at times, you know? Maybe it's just me being too harsh lol 🤔. Overall, though, Rocky's definitely back on track and I'm here for it 💖

I'm loving the resurgence of A$AP Rocky 🌟! Eight years is indeed a long time, but Don't Be Dumb feels like a breath of fresh air after Testing 😅. The album is like a masterclass in reinvention - it gets the experimental vibes from Testing but strips them down to their most playful and catchy bits. I mean, who doesn't love a good Drake diss on Stole Ya Flow? 🤣 But seriously, Rocky's ability to craft infectious hooks and beats is still on point.

What I'm not as sold on is how some of the production feels a bit overstuffed. I think Rocky could have trimmed it back a notch to really let his lyrics shine through. Still, it's a minor quibble when you're having this much fun listening to an album that feels like a return to form for the A$AP squad 🎉. Overall, Don't Be Dumb is a solid listen that shows Rocky hasn't lost his touch... yet! 👏
