Four masterpieces from the Renaissance era have vanished from the Regional Interdisciplinary Museum of Messina, taking with them not only their monetary value but also a piece of the city's collective memory.

Attributed to Antonello da Messina, one of Sicily's most renowned artists, are three panels of the San Gregorio Polyptych and a double sided panel of The Madonna and Child.
