What groceries do people panic buy before a snowstorm? It's more than just milk, eggs and bread.

As winter weather warnings are issued, grocery store shelves have become a focal point of frantic shopping, with shoppers scrambling to stock up on essentials and comfort foods. It's no longer just about the staples like bread, milk, and eggs, but an array of other must-haves that signal the start of a snowstorm.

Eggs, in particular, are flying off shelves, with sales at Weavers Way Co-op soaring 135% higher than normal before a February storm. It's not just humans who are stocking up; pet owners are also buying in bulk, with cat food and dog food seeing massive spikes – 281% and 192%, respectively.

Beyond the essentials, people are seeking out additional items that bring a sense of comfort and security during inclement weather. Non-perishable foods like canned goods, bottled water, and snacks are top sellers at stores like Giant and Weavers Way Co-op. Battery stocks have also seen an uptick, as well as shovels and windshield wiper fluid.

A side note to the usual snowstorm shopping list is the indulgent. Ice cream, cookies, chips, and pretzels are in high demand – a sweet treat for those seeking respite from the cold weather. Even baking supplies like pizza dough and flour see increased sales as people take advantage of the extra time to bake.

While it's impossible to predict exactly what will fly off the shelves each time, grocery stores have learned to anticipate spikes in certain categories. By ordering more items from local vendors, they can better prepare for the unexpected. For example, Klein's Supermarket increases its coffee inventory and bread stock in anticipation of snowstorms.

Despite these precautions, it's still a gamble, as suppliers can only do so much in advance. But one thing is clear: when a winter storm approaches, shelves are transformed into supply depots – with essentials, comfort foods, and indulgences vying for space.

🤔 I'm kinda surprised eggs are selling that much. Like, what's the plan? We're gonna be snowed in for weeks?! 🌨️ And don't even get me started on the stockpiling of snacks. I mean, sure, cookies and ice cream might provide some comfort, but have we thought about the environmental impact of all this waste? 🍪💧 Shouldn't we just make a plan to go out and shovel snow instead?

🌨️ people's behavior during snowstorms is kinda wild, right? like we're always talking about how we need to be prepared and stuff, but it's not until the storm is coming that everyone becomes an expert on bulk-buying... 🤣 anyway, it makes me think about how we use food and other essentials as a way to cope with stress and uncertainty. for some people, it's just about getting through the day without freezing or going hungry, while others are looking for ways to indulge and take their minds off things. it's like, our relationship with comfort foods is really tied to our emotional state... 🍪💆‍♀️

I'm shocked at how quickly we've become reliant on buying up all the eggs, cat food, and snacks before a snowstorm 🤯. It's like we're expecting the apocalypse or something! I mean, I get it, it's cold outside and people want to be prepared, but can't we just have a basic emergency kit instead of a shopping spree? 💸 And what's with the indulgent treats like ice cream and cookies? Don't they know that's not exactly the most practical thing to stock up on when you're shoveling snow 😂.

I'm low-key freaking out about the grocery store chaos 🙃. I mean, have you seen those egg prices? 135% higher than normal? That's like buying a whole carton of eggs just to see if they're gonna sell out 🤣. And don't even get me started on the cat food – 281%! I'm no pet owner, but I guess some people are super invested in their furry friends during snowstorms 😂. Anyway, it's crazy how quickly people stock up on all sorts of stuff... like ice cream and cookies 🍦🍪. Guess that's just human nature, right? ⚡

I feel ya... people get super stressed out during snowstorms 🌨️. I mean, it's cool that folks are prepping up on the essentials like canned goods and water, but some of these sales just seem kinda silly 😂. Like, who really needs a bunch of ice cream when there's gonna be a blizzard outside? 🍦 But hey, if it makes people happy, right? I guess it's also good that stores are getting in on the action by ordering more stuff from local vendors... might help avoid some last-minute scrambles for supplies. And yeah, baking supplies are pretty funny too – like who thought pizza dough was a must-have during a snowstorm? 🍕😂
