UK presses X to address intimate deepfake images

UK Urges Elon Musk's X to Tackle Non-Consensual 'Deepfake' Images Created on Demand via AI Chatbot Grok.

The UK government has called for urgent action from social media platform X to address a growing problem of non-consensual "deepfake" images created using its AI chatbot, Grok. Technology minister Liz Kendall described the images as "absolutely appalling" and condemned the proliferation of these demeaning and degrading content types on the platform.

Kendall's comments come after reports emerged that Grok was producing a flood of non-consensual images of women and minors in skimpy clothing. The UK government has made it clear that such behavior is unacceptable, particularly when it involves women and girls.

X's safety team had announced that they remove all illegal content on the platform and suspend accounts involved in uploading or prompting illegal activity. Despite this, concerns persist regarding X's handling of sensitive topics.

The issue highlights growing concerns over AI-generated content and its potential for misuse. Other tech platforms have faced similar scrutiny, but X's response has been particularly contentious.

As the crisis deepens, there are calls for greater accountability from social media companies in protecting users from such abuse. The government's warnings underscore the importance of stronger regulations and more effective policing on these platforms.

🚨 I'm really worried about the whole deepfake thing on X, it's like a slippery slope where anyone can create fake images that are literally ruining people's lives 😩. If social media companies don't take this seriously, we're gonna have to start talking about more drastic measures. It's not just about X, though - I think it's time for all the tech giants to step up and show some real leadership on this issue. They need to take responsibility for creating these AI chatbots that can produce so much trash content 🤖. And while we're at it, let's talk about why we even created these technology platforms in the first place - are we just gonna keep churning out new ways for people to be abused online? It's time for a major rethink of our approach to tech and social media 👀.

🚨 I'm low-key shocked that it took the UK gov to step in about this. Like, come on X, you're a huge platform with billions of users, shouldn't you have better safeguards in place? It's not like this is a new thing, we've been hearing about deepfakes for years and people still find ways to exploit them. I think the gov is right to be calling out X for their handling of this situation, but at the same time, can't they just take responsibility themselves instead of relying on the gov to step in? 🤔

I'm telling you, this is all about control 🤔. They're pushing for stricter regulation because they know it'll help them create a surveillance state 🔒. It's not just about deepfakes, it's about having a way to monitor what people are saying and doing online. And who gets to decide what's acceptable? The government 👮‍♀️. I mean, think about it, they're already making moves to ban certain types of content on X, but what if that's just the beginning? What if it's all part of a larger plan to manipulate public opinion and shape our thoughts 🤯. Mark my words, this is just the tip of the iceberg...

I'm so worried about this 🤕. These AI-generated 'deepfake' images are getting out of hand & it's super scary! I mean, can you imagine having a non-consensual image shared of you online? 😱 It's like, totally unacceptable. The UK government is right to call X out on this – they need to do more to prevent it from happening in the first place.

I think social media companies have a responsibility to protect their users & keep them safe from abuse. We need stronger regulations & better moderation tools so that these kinds of images can't just be shared willy-nilly. It's not just about X, either – other platforms need to step up too!

This whole situation is a great reminder that tech companies have some serious 'splainin' to do. They've got the power to shape online culture & they're using it to spread all sorts of nasty stuff. Let's hope they take this seriously & start doing better 💪

🤯😱👀 just saw this news about X platform 📱 and I'm like totally freaked out 😨! non-consensual deepfake images created on demand via AI chatbot Grok? that's straight-up creepy 😷! how can social media companies not do better with keeping users safe online? 🤔👮‍♀️ the UK gov is all like "fix this ASAP" 💥 and I'm all like "yeah, no kidding" 😒 we need stricter regulations and more policing on these platforms ASAP too 🚨💻

Ugh, this is getting outta hand 🙄! I mean, I get it, AI-generated content can be creepy, but the way X is handling this is sketchy. Like, they already have a safety team in place to remove all illegal content, but somehow Grok still manages to churn out these nasty deepfakes? It's like they're not taking this seriously enough 🤦‍♀️.

And what really grinds my gears is that the UK government is having to step in and tell X how to do their job properly. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm all for holding social media companies accountable for user safety, but can't they just take responsibility for it themselves? It's like they're waiting for someone else to come along and bail them out 🙅‍♂️.

And honestly, this whole situation is making me think twice about using X anymore. Like, if the UK government thinks it's that bad, then maybe I don't want to be a part of it? It's just not worth the risk, you know? 😒
