TV tonight: inside Prince Harry's phone-hacking case against the Daily Mail

Prince Harry is set to take the UK media to court over a phone-hacking scandal involving the Daily Mail, with six other high-profile figures also joining him as claimants. The case, which will be aired on Channel 4's Dispatches documentary series, centers around allegations of phone hacking and bugging by Associated Newspapers.

The lawsuit is part of a growing trend in the UK where public figures are seeking justice for past wrongs committed by the media. In this instance, Prince Harry is said to have been subjected to intense scrutiny and harassment by the Daily Mail, with some accusing him of using his royal status to bully journalists who refused to cooperate.

The case has sparked controversy among both sides, with some arguing that it represents a double standard – where public figures are held to a higher standard than ordinary citizens. Others see it as an opportunity for accountability, particularly given the history of phone-hacking and other forms of media misconduct in the UK.

This week's Dispatches documentary promises to shed light on the inner workings of the Daily Mail and its culture of intimidation towards journalists who refuse to toe the line. With a cast of characters including Doreen Lawrence, Elton John, and six other high-profile claimants, it's shaping up to be one of the most high-stakes cases of its kind.

Tonight at 7.30pm on ITV1, Britain's population is aging rapidly – with over half a million people now in their nineties or above. But what does this mean for our society? A new documentary, Super-Agers: Wisdom at 90+, offers a unique insight into the lives of these remarkable individuals, and the impact they're having on those around them.

Also tonight, BBC Two's The Man in the Mask: An Orkney Murder takes an unsettling look at one of Scotland's most bizarre unsolved murders. A new witness has come forward with crucial testimony that could finally crack the case, but will it be enough to bring justice to the victim and his family?

Later on Channel 5, a school faces Ofsted in a high-pressure exam – can teacher Amy Harrison keep her students' grades from plummeting? It's just one of many dramas playing out across British television tonight.

I mean, think about it... this whole phone-hacking scandal is like a mirror held up to the darker aspects of our society... how we consume information and the lengths people will go to get it... and now Prince Harry is taking on the Daily Mail for their role in all this... but what does that really say about us? Are we just willing to accept that the powerful will be above the law as long as they're entertaining us with scandalous headlines? 🤔 it's like, where do we draw the line between accountability and a culture of fear? And what about the victims themselves... Doreen Lawrence, for example... her story is so tragic... and now she's being given a platform to tell it all over again... but will that really bring justice or just more attention? 🕊️

I'm so done with this phone-hacking scandal. Like, how can you even get away with that kind of thing for so long? 🙄 It's like the media is trying to make a profit off people's personal lives and traumas. I feel bad for Prince Harry and all the other high-profile figures who've been subjected to this kind of harassment. At the same time, I get why they're taking action – it's not right that they should be held to a different standard than regular folk.

And can we talk about how our society is changing? With half a million people in their nineties and above now, it's crazy to think about what this means for the future. We need to start thinking more about intergenerational relationships and how we can learn from these older folks. It's not just about the wisdom they bring, but also the life experience and insight that comes with age.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to watching that Dispatches documentary – it's about time someone shines a light on this dark industry 🤯.

I think its crazy that Prince Harry is taking the Daily Mail to court 🤯! I mean, who hasn't had some media scrutiny in their life, right? But it sounds like he and the others have been really unfairly treated by the paper's tactics. Like, phone hacking is literally illegal 🚫, so its not exactly a shock that they're being held accountable for it.

And I feel bad for Doreen Lawrence, she's already lost her son to police brutality and now its like the media thinks she can just be bullied too? 🤕 Elton John joining the case is pretty cool though, hes always spoken up for what he believes in.

Its also kinda weird that some people are saying this is a double standard. Like, shouldn't public figures have a higher standard to live by? But at the same time, its not like theyre getting any special treatment - just accountability for their actions.

Umm.. i think it's kinda weird that ppl r sayin Prince Harry's bringin this on himself, like he's the only 1 who gets scrutinized that much.. idk about all those other claimants tho, seems like a lot of high-profile folks gettin dragged into this phone-hacking drama 🤔.

I'm worried about Prince Harry and all those other celebs taking the media to court lol! I mean, I get why they're mad, but it's like, if you wanna be famous, you gotta deal with some crazy stuff 🤯. My friend's cousin works at a school that gets Ofsted all the time, and trust me, it's super stressful 😩. But yeah, maybe the media just needs to take responsibility for their actions, like, instead of hounding Prince Harry around, they should be focusing on more important things...like how are we gonna support our aging population? 🤝 I heard that new doc Super-Agers: Wisdom at 90+ is really interesting, can't wait to watch it!
